hello what's your name I'm Ashley what are you working on I work at Meagher Dow is this your first Devcon this is my first M coaster first calm yes what what did you hear about DEFCON before you came let's see I heard the food was pretty bad last year everyone's really excited about the food this year okay but no I've heard it's a really good place to kind of catch up with you know the etherium foundation which is sort of spread out all over the world most of the time and I don't everyone said they got a lot of energy from it last year is that how you feel about it this year how do you feel like what's your take day for now so yeah I mean so it's a little bit different right
last year cerium was pumping over so many new people in the space and this year it's a little bit more chill yeah but I think in a good way because it's sort of like we're a little bit battle-scarred but whoever's left is like very very focused on whatever they're doing last year having been there last year last year felt like a drunken mania and this year feels a bit like a comfy hangover where we're planning and thinking about one of the next few days will be seven years exist a little bit of drunken mania what was the best party Rane Khan definitely life was awesome what was the
best talk did you see a lot of talks I saw a lot of talks yeah I mean Colonel a couple a few carls always a pleasure obviously shameless plug for Andy for millenias from ager he did a great job but I think actually my favorite talk was the spank chain sock okay because just now no not the one that they're doing just now the one that I mean did the other day where they actually sort of dissected the hack that they had and went into technical detail and also sort of like emotional detail of how they dealt with it and yeah I think a lot of projects would be embarrassed to be that open about you know obvious failure but ultimately it's all stuff that we're dealing with and all stuff we need to be aware
of so I thought it was pretty cool that they went into such detail about it is there was there conversation or like yeah was there a conversation that really stands out for you that you've had this week yeah actually I had a really good chat with Lane red egg actually on on the party train over from Berlin over three and we were talking about increasingly gaps are actually starting to use aetherium like maker right now and aetherium is they're starting to think about implementing Shaffer and implementing other upgrades don't have a lot of conversations with adapts that actually use the chain and so and that could be a problem exactly so there are some
decisions that are kind of being made without actually talking to you know they don't build smart contracts they've they're building the maintain yeah so they don't have a lot of context for actually how these big upgrades can affect that so it was pretty cool talking to him about you know he basically just encouraged us to get more involved and really get in the conversation because he was like wow we never thought about how that implementation might affect maker this is really helpful that's a really really good point I'm gonna tell you I haven't said this to the camera yet but one of the conversations that I had that was very very good I was actually with Mariano from Maker Overland yeah we had a conversation about how like content is being funded and like how there's sort
of some gaps in the market for like platforms that can that could potentially use maker to help make content making easier I'll leave it at that there's a really good commerce throw you off on a new project maybe a very good idea we're gonna miss a podcast you better never saw going anywhere bad don't worry promise promise let's see what else did what did you think of the building the building has been great actually it's it's spread out but the Neptune room is meditation mm-hmm nobody's mentioned that yet actually I really enjoyed it it was good I've been sick trying to take at least half an hour every day to just go in there and the first day I went in there
and I you know whipped out my laptop and I was like banging away listen to the girl make you know ambient music and came up to me and was like you know no laptop here and I yes first I was kind of ticked off I was like what do you mean and then later on I was like yeah no laptops here yeah we need to chill and actually people have really used it I've seen them gatok totally chilling yeah well this whole thing is a bit of it's a barrage of information right we we see each other all over the world at events all over the world but there's always so much to catch up on and still if you could think of a theme is like and maybe you don't have one but like are you seeing any theme emerging from this year's event or
this event definitely what is it it's about it's about governance and consensus I think this year on everything from you know governance and consensus and individual projects to governance in the community about you know how we upgrade the network and how we actually implement you know some of these big big upgrades that are coming down and and more also about how to structure those conversations and you know we we all want to we all got into this thinking like oh it's gonna be great everyone's gonna have tokens and there's gonna be voting and it's gonna be this perfect system where we have the severity and everything would be totally fair but in practice actually governing something requires almost over
communication so it's been encouraging to hear so many projects and so many people at the foundation talking about ways to make that possible so that everybody's voice is heard I think that's a great part that's a great point to end this interview thank you for being on it you were and yeah I guess I'll see you next year yeah hopefully 2019 I'm sure I'm gonna go okay
