you okay all right thank you very much pedro um now to continue susie from opera software thank you for being here let's get started thank you welcome so so great to be here in real life and see friends old and new

i'm susie batt global crypto community lead at opera software and opera is happy to be a sponsor at ecc again in 2019 opera unveiled the first crypto wallet to be embedded in a browser here at ecc so thank you jerome and bettina for this opportunity to return to the stage my goal is to introduce to you in 20 minutes the first fully web 3 and crypto generation generation alpha they are the offspring of millennials and ride on the tails of jen's ears

i'll talk about gen alphas born 2010 to 2025 and and their symbiotic existence with technology and fragmentation in society we are all in the business of promoting and monetizing web3 and to do this we will need to enroll a critical mass of consumers who must feel that web3 environment is second nature to how they spend each day the fastest way to win is to begin a service conversation with the new generation that has just come online faster as a consequence of covid pandemic stay and study at home orders

in this talk i will suggest to you that understanding and developing with alpha in mind will provide us with the keys to the kingdom generation alpha began in 2010 the year the ipad was launched instagram was created and app was the word of the year they are screen agers the offspring of millennials whose population is predicted to hit 1.5 billion by 2025.

they are growing up with 3d printers 5g autonomous cars siri and alexa biometrics and space tourism this population who are aged 10 and younger now are coming of age in untraditional times and will question the way of doing things like never before they've learned flexibility and compassion during the coveted pandemic race riots political strife they've surrendered to home zooming while quarantining and adapted to devices instead of chalkboards

coding programs like mit media labs scratch is the starting point for many who learn coding logic before keyboarding in their youth they have witnessed discontent mental anguish isolation and liberation through technology to entertain and socialize they are born into web 3 and all things iot roblox fortnite and anything streaming brought sanity to their parents that was me and they gladly participated the boundaries in their head are limitless and full disclosure these are my kids

um not not they're a duplicate so it's not like i have eight kids or anything um and this population as this population matures and given the world that they were brought into there are unique ways through web three that they will one identify themselves as two live and work and three pursue joy freedom and passions so let's explore the first web3 use case identity even before covid in isolation unique ways to express and identify oneself were emerging gen alphas watched their millennial parents

take endless photos of them and themselves then witnessed the affirmations on social media platforms like instagram and tick tock what will be different for gen alphas well the trend is still headed in the direction of self-expression but identities will not be mutually exclusive they have alt identities to try on and different personas like my tweenage daughter here this is her avatar who toggles between an avatar that chews bubblegum and reads books as a superpower and her alt whose tattooed bakes cakes and solves murders emojis are now used in identity like

yats here's my yat which is web3 naval enabled and now native in the opera browser you can purchase a unique yet combination own it direct it and use it to solve a human name with emojis it's whimsical it's unique it has broad appeal it's really expressive and it celebrates who you are on the web it transcends old conversation old conventions and is integrated in your crypto wallet the next use case live and work dow culture will impact society invest in things that you want to learn

and people who you want to work with generation alphas have experienced isolation and turned to online communities for connection just like adults what's in their future for life and work mass adoption and further iterations of dowse gen alphas will be administratively set up to accept payment for work in fiat or crypto and have the flexibility to work for streams that align with their social aspects as they value in their life it's happening now check out metagama delta for instance where non-technical women can learn in a

collaborative ecosystem attend dow rush week and find your fit by the time gen alphas come become members of dows dow tooling will become more frictionless and flexible and move more smoothly less reliant on dev experience and background will onboard the masses and perhaps move to a more republic state where token holders elect representatives and teams have autonomy to execute decisions the third case find joy gen alpha is not delaying gratification in their consumption of all forms of entertainment albeit

gaming books or film tv streaming podcasts they want their airdrops their free skin game skins instant trades and limitless connectivity the convergence of web 3 books and gaming for kids reached record numbers in december 2020 when the roblox and ready player 2 marketing activation became the largest book launch in history when over 33 million watched the roblox founder david bozuki and author ernie klein describe a bespoke roblox and ready player 2 collaboration

delivering 7 portals seven games seven quests and seven relics for roblox users this is my daughter's avatar uh listening to ernie klein describe the seven portals the protagonist of the ready player franchise is wade watts a digital native who represents a born into an online world that babysits and educates them in vr the physical world is recovering from a pandemic an environmental and health crisis how uncanny wade's generation is seamlessly onboarded into an online

workforce though the story takes place 30 years from now wade watts embodies the generation alpha i describe here 1 million users joined the game in the first 24 hours of launch profits for merch set record numbers and carved a new niche for alpha mark gen alpha marketing in digital media gen alpha rewarded the devs and marketing teams of this event with unparalleled engagement in conversation web 3 evangelists we hope for this type of mass adoption okay so i threw a lot at you just now

but the headline is that devs and marketing teams who created ready player 2 roblox event took the time to understand what mattered to their youngest users young kids online spending money much earlier than their older siblings thanks to a relaxed screen time constraints courtesy of zoom school and they had access to money by parents looking for just a few minutes of peace those little consumers had no jobs to go to or friends to see and willingly committed their days to any new online experience these are the consumers the roblox devs studied and built for

gen alpha and the strategy paid off with outsized engagements and conversion numbers what are the elements of this success to consider i suggest we look to the wise kevin owaki an old colleague you're supposed to laugh come on you guys know kevin um in in a clubhouse talk i heard him say web one and two were about the distribution of information web three is about the distribution of value so i ask you what do you value identity reputation

relationships freedom collective activities that bring joy see where i'm going with this these values align with those of gen alpha though our youngest users may articulate their version of these values slightly differently my point is that working my point is that working to make the future of web3 bright hinges on meeting the challenge posed by these consumers to impact where our values and theirs meet thank you [Laughter]
