yeah I'm Jared U I'm a CEO and co-founder of status I'm now working on a new project called logos awesome and where are we now and how you feeling we're at e Barcelona and I'm feeling fantastic awesome how was day one for you and how is day to going uh I came in yesterday and day two has been fantastic there's been some amazing talks uh certainly on the lunar track um that I've been really enjoying such as like aiai Jordi bolina um as well so yeah nice so you know that last year the topic of the conference was solar pun this year lunar bank is also added uh with a bigger focus on privacy security governance and things like that so what do you think about this shift and what have been some of your reflections of what happened in the space over the past
year I I guess like um the shift has always been there so like this whole crypto industry kind of came from sort of Cipher Punk and high-tech hayaki and crypto libertarian crypto anist Roots right um and I think as it grew and got more adoption uh there was a lot more optimism that came in and a lot more sort of ways of like how we actually can employ this technology uh yet um due to sort of uh other actors taking an interest in the power of crypto Rising um it's now challenging other power structures and we're identifying weaknesses in our systems that we need to address and that's really going what the Luna punks are trying to do they sort of like strengthen these sort of systems make them more antifragile um
which allows us to have a renewed optimism um and allow the solar punks to thrive um tell us more about your project yeah so I mean status uh is basically a super app that aims to Encompass sort of private peer-to-peer chats um as well as a Dap browser and a wallets for for ethereum or evm compatible chains um and that's kind of where like where we're going with that like we're trying to create um this sort of application allows you to interface with the crypto um as um logos on the other hand is what we found as we're building status uh that we were found uh moving further and further into infrastructure and protocol
design simply because a lot of the Technologies we wanted to build didn't really exist in the way that we needed them to um at the same time uh like I mentioned with the sort of Luna Punk or the cipher Punk Vision um we're identifying these issues that uh such as like privacy in the network layer as well as say transaction privacy and new technologies such as uh ways of doing pack up routing as well as Zer knowledge proofs allows us to actually start strengthening these systems um and what's great about that is if we can actually implement this we can remove personhood from these systems meaning that you create a form of political neutrality uh and if you have political neutrality this is actually a prerequisite for civil liberty such as freedom of speech um right to associate
economic freedom and if we can create a place for that we actually create more prosperity in the world um coming back to what you were saying about status and I want to know about its story like how did you decide to tackle this specific problem uh I mean status actually has a really long history so um I got into Bitcoin say sort of late 2010 somewhere 2010 2011 um and Status started off as an unreleased project called coin hero which was an SPV client for for Bitcoin uh that was going to integrate uh map functionality so you'd be able to find real world uh participants in in in crypto or coin at the time um and then uh as ethereum came along I was focused on porting ethereum
to mobile devices and we were sinking full chains at the time it was extremely um impractical but we're trying to do this um and status was actually called sing at the time Sy y n g this was named after the Philip J inkstand um and the Philip J inkstand was used to sign the Declaration of Independence as well as the US Constitution the idea being is you could put that pen into to the hands of everybody uh with smart contracts um and since then it uh it's evolved um from being merely a DB browser or Miss for mobile into uh into what it is today mhm with everything that you've seen uh in the space over the past 13 years maybe uh what is something that you want
to see more of I think a lot of the things that have been happening with Defi and and so the optimistic side of of crypto um has probably taken it in a direction where um they've been trying to hit Market as fast as possible uh and this has kind of resulted in not web 3 but like web 2.5 where we have these sort of web two sites that have like some kind of token capability um I want us to kind of return back to these roots where we're actually much more politically motivated and have a real reason and a real deployment of where these Technologies can actually make a massive change in the world awesome and what inspires you the most on the personal level about what you do like what I found so fascinating about Bitcoin was that it could secure value uh even though it was operating in a
hospital hostile environment and at the time this was kind of like the separation between State and money um but now my thinking is evolved to like this these actually operating like these systems actually operating in conjunction with the people that use them as their own independent political bodies uh and I think they're going to create what bellagi is called Network States um even though this idea is actually goes back 20 years and was called cyer States or virtual States uh by some of the original Cipher punks and I want to see that come to fruition because it's going to change the world love that awesome uh coming back to e Barcelona what are some of the things that you're excited to do over the next two days or is there any panels or even Trends or concepts that do you want to explore more uh I think at e Barcelona
what's great is that you get to seal familiar faces uh and catch up and have fantastic conversations that are stimulating um that's my primary reason for being here awesome thank you so much cool all right thank you that's great
