Running a Logos node
Running a Logos node · 2026 · 43:46
Alisher shows how to run a node on the Logos testnet, using the Basecamp desktop app or an AI agent. Logos is an open set of tools for messaging, storage, settlement and private execution, and its Blend network hides which node proposed a block. The demo covers installation, syncing, and testnet tokens that stake automatically. The one-click fork and agent setup are his own and not endorsed by Logos.

I would like to give a brief introduction to the deep learning platform. Uh the deep learning we maintain our open source deep development tutorials on GitHub. And we hope we can utilize this platform to provide uh a space where junior developers can have a clear uh learning road map and also present advanced developers with a platform for communication and cooperation. And now today we invited Alisher from Logos uh to share about uh I mean the Logos blockchain and how it works and how to have a node with the help of uh AI nodes. Now uh I will pass the microphone to Alisher.
Yeah, okay, it's your time. Thanks. >> Yeah. Hello. Uh nice to meet you. Uh very happy to be here. My name is Alisher. I will pin my video so you'll see me better. Yes. And pin. Yeah. I will talk about uh Logos blockchain right now. I what we will do I have a some demos and uh uh I will I will say uh what is Logos and how it works and why we building it.
So yeah, let's start. So we will talk about running a Logos blockchain node today. Uh a little bit about me. Uh so I worked in Russia uh for a long time uh in in big projects that became like evil evil corps later. Uh and then I switched to the freedom tech and started working in in uh in open source uh and P2P and encryption. Uh so I worked uh for a while in Status and Keycard. So Status is is uh P2P encrypted messenger uh uh and Keycard is hardware wallet.
And now, uh, a couple months ago, I joined Logos. So, we will talk about what Logos is, uh, why why run a node. We'll talk about app called Basecamp. Uh, we will do a demo. Uh, we'll start and sync the node. And, uh, I will show how I'm doing it, uh, with an AI agent or with a graphical interface in Basecamp app. And also we'll claim some tokens and I will show you something else uh, that not in this, uh, presentation, but I just built it. And, yeah, I I'll be really happy to show how it works.
So, let's talk about Logos. So, Logos, uh, the better the best way to understand what Logos is is to talk about three things. So, first thing is what is the idea, then what what is the technology, and the movement. So, idea is, uh, to build the parallel. Uh, I think a lot of us can agree that, uh, current centralized, uh, institutions and infrastructure, uh, full of surveillance and control, uh, and there is no privacy, uh, for, uh, for those who need it most.
Uh, there is a lot of pressure, uh, that people feel from centralized infrastructure, uh, and there is no easy way, uh, to change it. And, uh, voting, protests, petition, they don't work. So, idea is that we should build our own infrastructure and create our own movements and organizations, uh, uh, that, uh, cen- centralized infrastructure can't control. So, what is the technology? So, technology is decentralized, private by default, a technology stack covering things that any parallel institution or
community may need. So, we have communications. It's uh it's called Logos Messaging. It's a peer-to-peer protocol. And we have records or archive Logos Storage. So, you can use Logos Storage to to store data. Uh settlement. So, this is like a source of truth that you can inscribe, you can transact on Logos blockchain. And private computation Logos execution zone. It's uh uh uh I can say that it's um plays the same role as smart contracts on Ethereum, but there's a lot of uh differences because we we learned uh
from uh diff- different other blockchains and and and fill some gaps. I will talk about it later. And what what is important that everything is open source and modular. There you don't need permission to do anything. Uh you can just uh get the code from GitHub and you can run blockchain, you can run messaging and storage nodes. Uh and you can do it all on your own hardware. So, you don't need any expensive machines or VPS for that. And I will show you some hardware that I use and my my friends, my peers use to run uh blockchain nodes on uh Logos.
Uh Basecamp. Uh Basecamp is the app. Uh you it's kind of decentralized app store without permissions. So, we we don't um filter app. We do not decide what app you can you can you can run. So, you can install any third-party apps, but you need to verify and don't trust them because we don't check them. And it runs locally, no servers, no limits on use. And right after you installing Basecamp, you already have access to uh to the Logos stack, to messaging, to storage, to blockchain, to Logos execution zones.
And now we are on testnet 0.2. Uh it means that the there is no real uh tokens there. All tokens are testnet tokens. Uh and uh it's it's free to uh request and to experiment with them and to prototype your apps and uh do whatever you want with these tokens. Uh let's talk about movements. Movement. So, how it connects to the real world. Uh we we we call it Logos circles, and they are independent self-organized groups that take actions around real issues, uh build skills, practice, mutual aid, and pilot parallel institutions. Uh and for
now we have more than 2,000 activists around the globe. So, there is a little map that shows uh different circles uh around the world. Uh uh size is different. Sometimes it's like five people, sometimes 10, but uh we have some big circles in in Africa. Uh I heard that it was like 40 40 people in one of the circles in Africa recently. So, those people they decide what what they want to solve. They define winnable issues. Um we uh uh winnable issue we call something that can be achieved uh and meaningful enough to to work on it.
So, they define what is it, they organize about it. Uh we we support it with technology and with with visibility. Uh why run a node? Uh so as any other blockchain, a blockchain rests Logos blockchain rests on independent nodes. We we uh perceive decentralization. And more of them, the harder it to stop. Uh then what makes Logos blockchain different from other blockchain? So the main thing is operator privacy.
So no one knows who proposes block. We we have a special uh protocol called Blend that uh it's kind of mix mixnet uh thing that hides who proposes a block and when. Uh uh so in this way uh your stake, your reward, uh and information about your node are disconnected and there is no way to understand who proposed and how much uh how big the reward was for you. Yeah, and as I said uh recent uh previously, it's commodity hardware and no data center needed. And uh for me, like personally, I really like
to experiment on old hardware, on on cheap office computers. Uh and they they they really can run uh this blockchain nodes or not. Uh let's talk about how to do it. So there there is an official way. Uh there is this app called uh called Basecamp. I will show you how where to get it and how to install it. And also we have official CLI. Uh it's a command line interface. You can run it in terminal and and uh in this docs we have commands. Uh you can paste and and and uh just use it in in CLI way.
Uh but uh Logos, as I said, is open source. So anyone can build anything and I personally, and it's not part of my work work in Logos. So, it's I have my personal project project personal interfaces for nodes. And I will show them as well. And it's also shows that anyone if you if you see that you can do something different and you have different needs. I know for example that some people uh develop connection to to messengers to Telegram or to other messengers and they receive notifications about their nodes rewards and they receive it
right in their messenger or you can do your own dashboard. Uh okay, let's let's talk about Basecamp. So, I will let me find the browser. Yep. So, to download Basecamp you should go to logos.co. Uh you can do it with me right now. We have uh uh we have a Basecamp for Mac OS and Linux right now. And also you can run it in Windows but through WSL through Ubuntu virtual machine.
So, open logos.co and press install Basecamp. And here you have two options. I'm on Linux and I already installed it but I will show you how it works. So, you save it. And you have it. Uh then you have you have as I said you have options. So, you have you can go official way. Um Let me find the Basecamp. So, this is the base camp.
>> Yes. And right if you go into applications, we have so-called starter apps that included in into base camp. You don't need to add any third-party wrappers to get it. And here you have blockchain model that you can install. And this blockchain model will allow you to run to run the node. And efficiency lie as I said all here. My way. >> [laughter] >> So, I I like to experiment and check what kind of new features I can add to to my my my own forks, to my own projects. And I have experimental fork of official blockchain
app UI. And it adds some features, also some bugs. And today we'll also talk about an AI agent. So, AI agent works with CLI and it's way more easy. If you have your local agent or if you trust your cloud agent, you can just point your AI to specific repository. I made I made some skills that allow agent to set the node like in 5 minutes. And yeah, it's not audited, reviewed, or endorsed by Logos.
Okay, we already installed base camp. If you if you have any questions about base camp right now, um please um ask them in in the chat. So, this is QR. Base camp works only on desktop right now. There is no mobile version, but I know that core team working on it. Okay. A node with UI inside base camp. I will show you how how it works from zero. I call this uh fork one click.
So, I'm showing it from my other machine. So, it's installed right now. And uh you can run it by clicking up in the sidebar. And basically all you have here in this unofficial fork is one button. So, everything pre-configured, it's already knows about bootstrap uh nodes. And if I press it, it connects to them. And uh syncing is starting. Syncing takes around an hour. So, you can see blocks already appeared.
And after an hour, it will go green and will start talking with other peers and and uh proposing blocks. Uh then, to participate in proposals, you need to fund the node. You can do it through the faucet. Uh uh but also I connected this faucet here. And I press one button, request funds. Requesting. Yeah. Uh funds requested successfully. Feel free to close this window. And then uh these funds will appear here. Now, I will uh I will show you how it will look like after funds arrived.
So, this node is green. So, you will see that it's uh online. Uh you see staking. All All test funds that uh appear on the on the balance, they stake automatically automatically right now. So, there's no need to do anything for that. And also you can see the state of blend of protocol that mixes proposals. Uh you can see your peer ID. There is a slot of hate parameters of the blockchain balance. And right now, my node connected to 65 peers.
Also, you can see block and proposals. Proposals are blocks that your node proposes to the network. And you can see that my node proposed already 140. Uh and also you can see leader leadership vouchers. So, uh for successful proposal, uh your node receive vouchers. And by claiming those vouchers, you can claim rewards. I go here, I see that I have se- seven ready to claim, and also uh nine uh already submitted.
Uh I already claimed this much of tokens. This is uh what unclaimed. Um it's uh like approximately for some for seven vouchers. This is calculated cost to claim. Right now, it's 48%. So, you will um you will pay the fee uh for this reward. Uh so, as I said uh previously, uh I left 140 blocks, and last claim was this morning. And if you scroll down, uh you can see all these calculations. So, this is my net reward.
Yep. So, as as easy as this. Also, um uh uh so, this is the difference from the official one. Uh I have this leadership voucher management, and I have uh and I have leader rewards. So, official one works as well, but uh for now, it not gives you uh uh all this information, but I I believe in in the next release, um it will show it as well. Okay, this is what I want to say about node in base camp. So, uh to to summarize, you install base camp. You decide if you want to go with official or with fork.
Uh uh and then uh you just press press for the up and press start. Uh, I will speak a bit about third-party apps. So, how it works. Well, everyone can create their own applications for Basecamp. And, uh, a lot of, uh, uh, uh, Echo devs, our, uh, core contributors and external contributors making their own models.
Um, they hosted on GitHub right now, uh, and they can be installed like a separate package or you can create a .json like special link that knows about all your models. And, um, for example, I created this little website. Yeah. Uh, that, uh, lists all my all models I did. And if you, for example, want to I want to try it, want to play with it, um, what you do, uh, you need this link.
Copy it. And then you go to Basecamp to uh uh repositories. Let it load. Yeah. Go to set- to settings, right? To package repositories. And then, uh, you can add any repository. Enter the link and add. Uh, I need to tell one more time that, uh, all these apps and models, they not audited and verified by Logos. But, my personal personal suggestion right now, you know that, uh, AI is a very powerful and you can just, uh, point Codex, uh, on GitHub repository
and ask if it's safe. And in most cases, uh, it will be enough for you to understand if it's safe to run something like this. And you can see that I have a lot of packages from my from my friends, people I trust. Uh David, Zaki, Danish, uh Guru, and and this is my repository as well. And and Watslaw. Okay. Let's let's go back to the presentation. Yeah, we covered node with your inside base camp, differences between official and unofficial.
And this is the node I just showed you. I call it one click because you just press one button and it goes. Uh it's built by me. It shows blend status balance proposals leadership and vouchers. Uh and you can request test tokens right from it. So, this is uh a node how to install third-party apps. I already showed it, but let's let it be in the record as well. So, maybe if you will try to to do it in your own time, so you go to settings, open package manager, add repository, paste, then you can see applications from this repository. You install and launch launch.
Okay, let's uh play with agent. So, how it works? Uh uh I created this repository with skills for the agent. Let me find it. Yes, this is it. Uh what I have here, uh some scripts and and and and some skills. And also I've built uh local web-based dashboard that you can open, for example, if you use Tailscale or Headscale, uh you use mesh VPN, you can open it from your phone even if node running uh on your local PC, and you can see all details.
So, what we will do right now, um uh let me find some terminals. Yep. So, I have this terminal. Um and uh I have a note with the Yeah. So, okay, we need to run cloud at first. Let's use cloud. Don't need to resume. I will use dangerous escape permissions, so it will not ask us about every every step.
All right. Don't need to use fable for this. It's very simple task. Yeah, so basically, am I Uh let me know if you see it. I think it's it's quite low. Yes, now we can see it. Um read agent MD. Uh the box is remote. Uh so, I have uh a little old uh PC I bought second-hand for uh 100 euros. I will show how it looks like a bit later. Very fun machine called OptiPlex. And Okay.
And it will take it will takes uh like around 5 minutes. And maybe if you have any questions while the while agent work, we can we can we we can talk and just look what what happens here. So it it greets you. I'm your Logus node agent. I'll help you to uh get a Logus blockchain node running on the OptiPlex box. Box is ready, no node.
>> What is the kind of a box is faster from the remote server, right? It's executable file, right? >> Uh can you repeat once again? >> Yeah, just want to ask her I mean the bots you mean it's a kind of executable file, right? >> Uh what what I have in a box? >> Yeah, it is it looks like a a file. >> Yeah, I have on the box I have Ubuntu server.
Uh and also some prerequisites. So in GitHub installed, tailscale I use it for my local network. And and some other stuff. I think I have it somewhere. Let me show you. Yes yes. What agent needs? It's it's just plain Ubuntu. Machine is very much simple. 8 GB of RAM. Uh access tailscale and tailscale SSH. And I use cloud decode, but also I tested with codex and codex making it faster.
And packages that that you you may need to have and I think if you if you into this you already have them. Very simple. Uh git curl jq, tmux, python, cron, pyst. Okay. >> Okay, I got it. >> Yeah. So yeah. Something happens, it it fetches the last release.
And it tries to use backed up config because I I made some rehearsals before. Hopefully it will not it will not use. But if you will have it empty, it will just create a new Okay. It's explored machine and now it creates the plan. Install the core tools, restore the backup. Okay, let let let it restore. So, but if you will use uh like empty machine, it will just create a new one.
Okay, let's do fresh wallet. Just for clean experiment. Dashboard yes. Let's go. What I have in my slides. Yeah, let's talk about the box. So, the box agent works with looks like this. Um so, yeah, we have we have kind of second-hand second-hand uh store called Wallapop in Spain where people selling everything.
And I just looked for something as cheap as possible and it was 103, but then my my my friend and colleague Vaclav said that he he found something like very similar for for 30. And we have kind of challenge. We're trying to to to find the cheapest machine that can run uh Logos blockchain. So, maybe you don't even need to buy it. Maybe you have something already like somewhere on the shelf uh collecting dust.
Okay. agent still doing something. Fresh wallet. Okay, let's let's let you like my grandpa laptop. Yeah, you're right. >> [laughter] >> Yeah, the main thing that important for the node it it should be connected and online. So if you if you use laptop for instance dialing node, if you close the lid and keep it I'll say like 25 30 minutes closed, it will uh it will need to reread all blocks and it will take one more hour until it will be online.
Yeah, but but this machine I even don't have uh display connected to it. So it's it's headless headless box. It's start to download to download something. It worked faster >> [laughter] >> hour before.
It's like extraction blockchain map model. Uh-huh. Confirmed. Okay, it's founded. Can you explain more about Nomads? I'll be honest, I joined not just recently and what I know about Nomos that it's basically uh something that was evolved into Logos blockchain right now.
But I can I can I can be not like 100% correct about it. Okay, while I just work, maybe you have other questions. Please uh write in in the chat or just unmute your your your mic and let's talk. Let's check that hash matches. It's very important to check hash of the downloads
that and be sure that you run uh original binary. Or while it's working, I can show you one more thing. How can it make consensus? How can it make consensus progress privacy? Yeah, uh Yanan, how can you a bit elaborate on this question? I'm not sure I clearly understand it. Yeah, while you uh typing, I will show you one more thing.
So recently um I made an app for the Android or or Graphene that allows you to connect your base camp node uh via Tor connection and see all information right from the phone. So, for example, if you even if you're not in your local network uh you can see details uh how your node works, you can see blocks proposals and and also rewards. And for example, I can claim one voucher here.
Claimed, it should go to six soon. But it talks with a node through Tor. So, it's not a node that running on the phone. And also you can see your rewards. Yeah. It's available on my Android. Also not official Logos app. Now finding the fresh wallet from the faucet. So, now agent already installed binary and uh you you not even need to press the button. So, it makes it through curl to our faucet.
I think we're really really close. Grin confirmed. 65 peers. Hey. Any any other questions, comments right now? >> And did you see the questions from the chat box from Jan. It's like how can it make [clears throat] consensus progress
privacy? >> Yeah, I'm not sure I understand this question. Maybe maybe you can elaborate on it. How it how can it make consensus progress privacy? >> It means that I mean a blockchain has to reach a consensus definitely and during this progress I mean during the progress of making a consensus how to make it private? >> Yeah, I I I I assume >> that's how kind of the industry I mean what he what he means.
>> Yeah, it's about blend. So, it's private because your your proposal uh and disconnected from your node through mix network. Yeah, yeah, please. If you if uh let me find docs for blend and I think this is what may help you. Let's go to docs. We recently updated docs.
And let's search for blend. Yeah. So, understand how the blend network hides the link between a block proposal and their proposal. The blend network adds a layer of anonymity for block proposers on top of cryptarkia. This is the name of protocol. The logo's private proof of stake consensus protocol. So, I will share this link in chat.
If if it will not answer your question, please reach me in Discord. Hey, let's check out agent. Yeah, agent just funded the fresh wallet from the faucet. Yeah, super close. Lollygagging. Yeah, funds landed.
Yes, we did it. Yellow gas notice up and the running green. Um what agent did install the core tools blockchain model 0 to 2. Uh I generated a fresh user config with the current testnet peers, started in syncing, installed. Node status bootstrapping and now we have this URL. We can check. So, it's a local dashboard. This stuff works.
Um Oh, maybe Yeah, when I think we need to use this one. So, this is through tailscale. Yeah. This one works. So, this is the uh local hosted little server uh that shows you the the status status of your node. We see that it's bootstrapping, head slot, uh peers. Uh no block proposals, so it starts proposing blocks only after it's synced, fully synced.
You can see logs as well. Yeah, so that's that's it about uh AI assisted running. And the last slide I I have for you. Yeah, these words are written on logos.co website. That logos is not for everyone. Logos is for people who are done waiting for permission. And this is what really touched me because you don't need to ask anyone about doing something on logos, creating apps, creating models, running all kind of nodes, and sharing sharing it with your
community. Uh if you'd like to join and ask more questions and see how it how it goes in our community, please join Discord. And if you have any questions for me, you can reach me on X, um on GitHub or on Discord. And the main links to explore more about logos is logos.co and docs.logos.co. Thank you. >> Thank you.
Okay, thanks Alyssa. Um Yeah, here is the the next day the Q&A. Um if anyone has questions, uh you can open the microphone, ask directly, or send your question in the chat box. >> Yeah, ready. So, absence of questions can can can signal two things. So, everything was uh very clear or nothing. Nothing was clear at all.
Yeah, yeah, please just like press press thumbs up and if everything was clear and and thumbs down if you if you don't understand what happened. >> I think it's quite clear. I mean, especially with the help of the AI agents. Um Yeah, I have run some nodes before, but uh never thought about I mean utilize uh AI agents that run some empty files or give some scripts, combine them together.
And yeah, I think that's kind of a new way or uh cutting edge yeah, stuff to run the nodes. And also uh yeah, by the way, currently we don't have too many blockchains requiring uh running any nodes. Uh yeah, most of them are the official decentralized nodes. Uh only the authorized uh parties or entities to run the nodes and get profits. That's quite different from the logos, yeah.
>> Yep, yep. Thank you. I think I think this is the original original vision of what blockchain should be. So, anyone can can run the node on this simple hardware and make network more durable. >> I have one more question about the applications on the logos. Just now you showed our the ghost frames. Uh so, theoretically speaking, we can build our own applications on top of the nodes, right? And run it in what you said, kind of a UI or some dashboard.
>> Yeah. Yeah. So, uh uh as I said, Basecamp have already have some preinstalled models that allow you to talk with blockchain, with storage, and and we with P2P. We have some examples of apps, but it's very easy to build your own. And and when you build it up build this up, it can be loaded into Basecamp and use this capabilities of Logos blockchain, Logos storage, and Logos messaging.
>> Okay. Okay, I see. I think there is a question from Yian. It's out of the topic. It's a project you are working you worked before. What's the status network now? How does it work now? >> Uh uh as I know, I may I might be wrong because yeah, I switched to Logos uh recently. Uh uh Status Network is part of uh Linea right now. Something like this. I think there was some announcement. Yeah, I will I I uh I will I will uh guide you to our to the X of Status Network because I don't remember, but I
think they they had some announcement. >> Okay. Any other question? >> Any other questions? Yeah. >> I assume uh silence means no questions. Oh, sorry. I see. Are they in a network consensus company? >> Yeah, I I don't know. I will I'll be honest. I will do the same as you. I will go to uh >> research later.
>> to the X and and check for announcement. My my context is very small and now my >> [laughter] >> My context is full of is is full of logos. I still hold SNT. I'm too Yeah. >> What's a What's a SNT so long token? I know that's kind of SNT token. >> Uh so sorry Alex, can you repeat the last sentence? >> I mean that's kind of a token, right? >> Yes, yes. It it's it's token of status. >> Right. Okay, I see.
Okay, I think that's it. I do not see uh more questions. I think everything works well. Um Yeah, thanks all of audience and thanks Alex for sharing this kind of the blockchain and technology and the how to use the AI agent to do this kind of stuff. I really appreciate I mean I'm glad to see someone and some developers to share what they are doing on their knowledge in such a market. Uh like I said before, everyone should cherish this opportunity and it's precious.
Yeah, thanks again Alex and I think that's it. Yeah, I hope everyone uh enjoy the Saturday. >> Yep. Thank you. >> Okay, thank you guys. >> Bye-bye. >> Bye-bye.
