Open Conversations: On Ethereum's Path Forward (Aya Miyaguchi)
Funding the Commons Open Conversations · 3:52
Aya Miyaguchi, executive director of the Ethereum Foundation, describes the foundation's role as a supporter of the ecosystem, starting with the infrastructure layer. Because Ethereum is not owned by anyone, she says the foundation is just a supporter. She says her own role should not be fixed since what the foundation deals with keeps changing, and likens the community's culture of working together to an infinite garden that must keep growing without the foundation present. On funding the commons, she says governments can join the conversation and citizens should share in ownership of digital public goods.

[Music] my name is a amaguchi I am executive director of the eum foundation our Ro is to support things in the etherum space starting with the infrastructure layer there are a lot of Open Source contributors who are building this commment uh of e3m and also there are other things such as educational efforts or events trying to support where support is [Music]
needed the most important thing about ethereum it's not owned by anyone so we're just a supporter I try to adjust my own law in in the organization in the space according to what's happening uh in the ecosystem my law shouldn't be fixed because what we deal with is changing all the time there is this this culture of working together I often describe it as our vision of infinite Garden we are playing game to continue playing together it's not for the purpose of
someone winning that part of this culture ofum is very important so how do we create this Garden without us being there so we need to think about the time that we may not be there so from the very beginning we PR things with that image this type of event is great because it's it blings not just EX Experts of Technologies but also uh conversations that can happen like at the intersections of different
expertise the title is funding the commons keep it very Broad and that's like something anyone can be part of government's side can be part of the conversation but also a citizen should be part of the conversation should be part of the ownership of this digital public goods or public commment even the funding part that now we can be part of because of some technical tools out there I want to be part of changing the word if that's the goal at the end of the day this one organization of eim foundation it's just
a piece of bigger movement and not just looking at trees and we need to look at the forest if everyone can actually think that way it is not just about only your organization growing is just contributing to the the bigger Garden or Forest it's not just about being a good person or better person it is more fun to just collaborate and work together and I hope many people can experience that by being part of this type of community thank [Music]
