Kokio co-founder Arpit Kumar presents Kokio, an open-source eSIM app for travelers and digital nomads with coverage in more than 200 countries. Onboarding needs no account or personal details, relying on biometrics held in the phone's secure enclave, and users can pay with crypto or fiat. The talk explains why telecom data breaches and metadata practices make privacy by default the core of the product.

[music] with us. Um, yep. Okay. Welcome. >> Hello. >> Hey. Hey everyone. I'm Arpit. I'm introducing Koko. Koko is a product for anyone who need internet connectivity on a foreign land as it is designed for the masses. Ideal users are digital nomads and international travelers. We have coverage in 200 plus countries. We built this with ethos of open source verifiable source of truth and consumer data security practices. Koko provides a friendly and practical eim store with privacy as the default which cannot be traded for profit.

The problems with EIMS consumer EIM data security it's a big huge problem in EI space there are breaches in telecom space which is consistent you cannot escape that every year there's a telco data breach and we don't find it out to be honest at that time but it does enable scammers to lead and design strategic approaches around you and steal from you when you're traveling freely. Despite freedom of connectivity, the EIM tech itself has many vulnerability and even without going in the EIM infrastructure, the way it is served to the end user causes variant and several data leaks. At the moment, the system is relying on traditional intermediaries, centralized databases, trusted third parties. It doesn't matter

which operator or platform you use. Your personal identifying information is being shared in all scenarios. The whole system is under surveillance capitalism with exploitive metadata practices and paternalistic UX. So we've built Koko. Koko is a publicly verifiable mobile app available on all smartphones on Android and iOS. We also tested it last night in Grafine OS and we'll push it in full-fledged manner on Android soon. On boarding without Yeah. On boarding without collecting any personal information at all. There's no account.

You don't need to share your name, your email or any identification that leads to you to recognize you socially. It on boards you via biometric your fingerprint and face face ID and which is stored in secure enclave. We have a well curated ACM catalog that travelers actually want. We have un coverage in 200 plus countries. We have unlimited local plans and we have special plans which touches different countries in different regions. For example, one will go to one plan for Mexico, US and China. You will search it and you will find it.

So, and yeah, about the protocol, uh, yeah, about the protocol, it's you you can check it out. It's everything is open source on the GitHub. So, it's flexible. We can users can pay with crypto, users can pay with fiat. It's up to them. We wanted to provide all the options to them. And it also upgrades non-crypto users onto uh crypto onto smart contract with a lazy wallet which brings the sovereignity to the masses. So irrespective who you are, you will be sovereign, you will be on chain. It doesn't matter if you pay by crypto or not. So privacy is the default.

Sovereignity is the destination. As you are not a data subject, you're a sovereign actor. Koko sets user free to cross borders around the globe without worrying about roadblocks for connectivity. the EIM landscape. As you see, there are three circles, anonymity, crypto payments, and convenience, which also have good UX. So, Koko sits right in the middle. You have anonymity, you have crypto payments, and you have the simple UX. It is designed for the masses. And optionally, you can create a wallet, fund it, and keep using your EIMS, top it up. So, yeah, sorry about that.

How? And by the way on we have we are also on Instagram where we are pushing digital wellness and and digital well-being content and in general we are always up for collaboration. So if you have a content which can help anyone to be digitally well. It's important it's very important to be digitally well. So just reach out to us. We can push and share content together. It's all it's we definitely need a lot of collaboration

to share good projects, good information to the masses. Okay. So let's

go to we are a team of three and we started together just building open source protocol. We are trying to open source EIM as well and we started together in March 2024 as a team of three and got a grant from Ethereum foundation privacy and scaling explorations. Since then we developed the smart contract suit got it audited. We partnered with EIM suppliers and then we decided that we need to build a consumer app to go and have a set of metric to continue building open source protocol uh in the telco space and reach out to the telco bodies and we again we need collaboration to ship open source specs for that and yeah this is me I'm ETH India grantee and I lead product and GTM we have Manul who leads protocol and

engineering he has been in public blockchain ecosystem since more than 5 years now in early 2020s he helped blanks in Australia on board onchain and previously worked at block network and built liquid staking protocol that allowed anyone to stake as low as 0.001 001 ETH Tanme leads operations and EM back end and systems previously working at Nvidia as CPU GPU performance architect and engineer. Our ask is just share it. Share it to your friends and family. You can you have your promo code in the setting section. Go grab it and share it or similar apps which collects no information at all. You need to share it to the folks who are not in this tech space so that they are secure and they travel freely. No one is impersonating

them in howsoever. Thank you so much. This is a QR. Get the app and tell me [music]
