How Tokenization Is Setting Up The Greatest Finance Boom Ever

30 Sept 2026 · 5:45

Andy Cavanaugh of The Rollup speaks with Vlad Tenev about why tokenization matters to Robinhood: giving anyone with a smartphone and an internet connection, from Ecuador to Eastern Europe, ownership of high-quality US assets. Tenev says Robinhood has about 200 stock tokens, wants thousands, and plans private company stock tokens at scale. The conversation also covers perpetual futures (perps) on Robinhood Chain, which recently did over a billion dollars in perp volume alongside a billion in DEX volume, the Bitstamp acquisition and its shared global liquidity pool, and the aim of keeping the chain neutral with low fees. Tenev closes by explaining that broad ownership of quality financial assets is why he defends crypto publicly.

Imagine if we just take that and give people a hundred times as much variety. So, I think that's that's one unique thing that we've got that others will will not easily be able to replicate. >> Welcome back to the rollup, guys. Hit the like button, hit the subscribe. It's the easiest way to support our channel. We interview some of the best minds in finance every single day. Enjoy today's show. >> Quick hit. Why are you so bullish on tokenization? Why does it actually matter to you deep down? I think it matters because it allows you to give exposure and ownership of high quality US assets to everyone around the world.

So, a lot of people ask about it in the US, but what I what gets me most excited is getting like >> the person that's in Ecuador or in Africa or somewhere in like >> Eastern Europe. >> Eastern Europe. Yeah. get making it super easy for them just with an internet connection and a smartphone to get access to equities >> and then later private markets and everything you can get on Robin Hood in the US should be should be accessible. Vlad, anything for our audience on stock tokens, stock token lending? Anything that you can share about your kind of broader view plans here?

>> I mean, I think the first thing is just expanding the the selection. We have about 200 stock tokens now. So, we got to get that up into the thousands. >> Yep. >> I've been talking about private stock tokens for a while. So, >> we figured out how to do that. You should expect that uh at large scale and actually with our work in Robin Hood Ventures. Yep. >> We're building great relationships with private companies here >> with our work as an underwriter. We're helping them as they think through retail strategy for going public. So now we have like unique access and opportunity and a lot of them have reached out about how can they be a part of tokenization.

>> Sure. >> And then yeah, we should just there's a lot of things that we don't have, right? Look at the Robin Hood app in the US and imagine onchain versions of all of those. >> That's what I wanted to talk about. You guys had this PERPS launch, right? Obviously, you know, you went to high school with Vlad from the lighter team. You guys announced the pers on the Robin Hood wallet, which I thought was great. >> What's your thoughts on kind of the strategy here? You start off chain with pers, then you kind of move onchain. Is that kind of like the broader product strategy for per tokenized assets? How do you think about that in relation to Robin Hood chain, lighter, and other per platforms like Hyperlid, etc.? Well, per on Robin Hood chain have been having a moment. I think for the last couple of

days, we've been doing over a billion in per volume in addition to a billion in DEX volume. We also have PERPS through Bitstamp, which is more CFI, centralized. >> You acquired them? >> Yeah, we acquired them. We launched PERPS in Europe last year. And actually with the PEPS offering in the US, we announced last night we're tapping into Bitstamp. So, it's one shared global liquidity pool. So we're we're supportive of onchain per offchain per you know it what product we offer first depends on regulatory structure and what's permissible and I think we're also open to offering multiple products so we don't necessarily want to be like

want to have one way >> okay so kind of open-minded sorry like open-minded on like the strategy as far as what type of products what type of protocols because there's so many of these Lindy protocols in D5 Defi now, right? The a and the unis swap is doing extremely well. Morpho, right? You've got these lindy battle tested protocols that have been yearning for you being the main character now, Vlad, whether you you know you want that or not. And also for the front end of this industry, right? We've been looking for this front end. We've got this all this technology. How do you think about Robin Hood kind of coming in and being the the user experience layer for all these Lindy battle tested, you know, protocols on chain? Yeah, I mean I think one of the reasons Robin Hood chain has been so

successful is we haven't really been picking winners. So, I mean, we help we want to help developers out, but we really want to stay a neutral platform >> and lower the fees as much as possible, which we've done. You know, the onchain fees. Uh, >> things got crazy there first. >> A lot of times people people were like, "Oh, well, Robin Hood chains revenue decrease, but volume has been really really high." And that's just cuz the team has done uh our main priority is can we make it so that everyone just comes on Robin Hood chain and and makes it as great as possible. So we we've I think we're number one in developer activity too. So we rapidly kind of became the number one chain for developers.

>> So and it's only been two months. >> I know it's crazy. >> Yeah. And I think the thing that's resonating the most is that we're we're giving people these new financial legos with real world assets. >> Sure. >> You know, you've got stock tokens, you've got stock per uh in partnership with with Lighter and others. >> Yep. And you know, imagine if we just take that and give people a hundred times as much variety. So I think that's that's one unique thing that we've got that others will will not easily be able to replicate.

>> Last thing, Vlad, uh you were on CNBC talking about tokenization and a ton of things. And these guys were grilling you hard and and they were not, you know, they've got a certain perception of crypto. You stood up for the industry. Uh what does that mean to you? It means a lot to the community. Why stand up and put your neck out there? We just have a couple seconds. >> Well, we're just uh supporting our own products and our community. I mean, we're doing this thing. We're doing these things because the most important thing for us is making sure ownership of highquality financial assets is distributed as broadly as possible. We think it's not just good for investors, but it's good for the world and for these companies.
