Exploring the past, present, and future of zkEVMs

Devconnect Istanbul 2023 · 14 Nov 2023 · 54:01

Polygon zkEVM technical lead and Hermez co-founder Jordi Baylina joins a panel of zkEVM builders and researchers to trace how zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machines evolved from early proof-of-concept implementations toward production-ready systems. Recorded at Devconnect Istanbul 2023, the discussion covers the engineering tradeoffs behind different zkEVM designs, from proving performance to EVM equivalence, and where the technology still falls short of matching Ethereum's base layer guarantees. It offers a snapshot of a fast-moving corner of Layer 2 scaling where zero-knowledge proofs meet EVM compatibility.
