e e e so this is being

ni wait it's not yeah whatever you're doing so so we are live we are live right now um do the

wheel so so we are live we are live right now we we are live all right we're just gonna get into it 22 um do the wheel D you're up first are are we we are live all right we're just gonna get into

it [Music] okay 22 22 um talk about luck hey okay get this situated so good morning everyone

[Music] right once again good morning so my name is Dell Titus bwa I am the founder of a community called web3 Acra and we are based in Ghana West Africa and um first of all I'd like to thank edcon for hosting such an amazing event and Gathering um leaders from other parts of the world so I'm very very humbled to be here with all of you

and hopefully we can conspire to um come up with some solutions that are going to positively impact um our world so the focus for me here is Africa powered by web 3 um essentially you know crypto is steadily growing in Africa with economists viewing it as a disruptive innovation to set to flourish on the continent although Africa has one of the smallest markets yet it is one of the fastest growing crypto markets globally transactions reached 20 billion

per month in mid 2021 with Kenya Nigeria South Africa leading in crypto use primarily commercial payments generally cryptocurrencies recorded on blockchains are decentralized free from government regulations enabling Global transactions without intermediaries is particularly appealing to countries and currencies local currencies to be specific countries such as Ghana Botswana Kenya Nigeria South Africa Uganda and zimb way are all notable Bitcoin economies these increasing number of

mobile phone users in Africa reached 725 million in 2020 and is expected to further integrate cryptocurrencies into the continent's financial ecosystem while the lack of Regulation currently facilitates growth this could change in the future so what are the problems while web 3 is an emerging industry in Africa its growth is hampered by an developing digital infrastructure and limited Regional support with some of the key challenges

including limited internet access the unbanked population insufficient service for the gaming industry High Cost of metaverse competi compatible gadgets lack of indigenous blockchain Solutions and a need for indigenous cryptocurrency tokens Africa with a population of approximately 1.4 billion and a GDP exceeding 2.4 trillion Circa is home to 70% of the world's youth despite its potential the continent's digital infrastructure is not keeping Pace with the rapid growth growth of the global web 3

Industry the us alone has five globally established tech companies with a combined market cap of about 10 trillion give or take with Bitcoin alone with a market cap of about 1 trillion Circ in just a decade alone that's been a reality for most of us as we've seen surpassing meta already highlighting the immense economic potential potential of web 3 for the region we have convened here because we mutually believe that web 3 is the next evolution of the internet offering a decentralized and user Centric digital ecosystem powered by blockchain

technology adopting open-source Solutions with platforms like ethereum we can address Africa's unique challenges and unlock numerous benefits so what are some of these benefits economic growth and Innovation job creation open-source web3 technology can create new jobs in blockchain development cyber security and digital Finance startups and Entrepreneurship open source platforms can attract investment support startups and drive Innovation Financial inclusion uson

decentralized Finance platforms can provide Financial Services to the unbanked and underbanked enhancing economic participation enhanced transparency and governance is a very very big problem anti-corruption and ultimately blockchain's immutable ler can reduce corruption through transparent and traceable transactions efficient Public Services decentralized applications can streamline Public Services reducing bureaucracy and improving service history an improved Supply Chain

management traceability blockchain enhances traceability of goods ensuring authenticity and reducing fraud which Africa can largely benefit from efficiency of course smart contracts can automate and optimize supply chain processes lowering cost and increasing efficiency yet again data privacy security user control web 3 prioritize user sovereignty over data this is something that Africa really needs giving individuals greater control over their personal information decentralized systems under the guise of cyber security can be more

resilient to cyber tax compared to centralized systems this obviously will solve major problems in Africa Financial inclusion access to banking defi platforms offer banking services to those without traditional banking infrastructure in rural areas crossborder payments cryptocurrencies can facilitate faster and cheaper crossb transactions benefiting remittances corruption and fraud transparent transactions blockchain's transparency can reduce opportunities for corruption

in both public and private sectors election Integrity decentralized voting systems can ensure fair and transparent elections inefficient Public Services decentralized identity all this we believe web 3 will solve in Africa web 3 Technologies can provide secure and verifiable digital identities improving access to services and reducing fraud smart contracts automation through smart contracts can streamline processes like property registration and social benefit

distribution so land litigation tends to be a very very big problem in Africa and when I think of the use of nfts for example it's about consolidating documentation that has been disjointed in its infrastructure from one family to another usually stool families so the problems that we address in Africa are going to be very different to the problems you address in the Western World in which case nfts will be used very differently in a place like Africa the supply chain inefficiencies another example prior to me moving on is going to be related to

IP protection when things are produced in Africa we really have an opportunity to consolidate that IP using nfts yet again um and then also protecting the supply chain which is something that we can't do as well at the moment product authen Authentication for investors looking to or consumers looking to buy in Africa so blockchain can ensure authenticity of products combating counterfeiting in Industries such as Pharmaceuticals and agriculture now if you look at Africa in its larger context I think it's fair to say majority of the world's agriculture agriculture or arable land we account

for 60% so this is very important not just for us but for the world as a whole in terms of food security Logistics and management enhanc transparency and automation can improve Logistics and reduce costs in conclusion we believe that having an industry that is scalable to all parts of the world is what identifies or clarifies that web 3 is a really really secure industry and a successful industry so I would like to conclude as say in our case following this journey um we've worked with the ghanian central bank for the last two

years and we formed a working group to carefully draft out a policy to essentially ensure that we have a policy for blockchain and crypto that is now officially going to be announced this week timely and that will encourage Partners from all over the world like yourselves to come and invest in a place like Africa um I also believe what I said earlier is it is imperative that web 3 is scalable in all parts of the world for us to be successful so what I would like for you to embrace is to see Africa as an extension of what you're doing in your

part of the world to have a successful industry thank you future forward [Applause] sorry guys um yeah take a couple of questions as I figure out some technical stuff in terms of working with policy makers

uh local governments people that actually allow the facilitation of you know remittances property rights Etc right that's a really really good question so um hold on U just for Cadence wise we're just don't have the time for questions we can carry that conversation elsewhere um we just got to continue to program as planned so let's uh sorry about that let's up the next one [Music] oh number three Ellie [Applause]

hello everyone my name is Ellie I'm one of the core team members from the University of ethereum today I want to present the proposal to raise the Benchmark of digital literacy and and I ask everyone here to um contribute to this cost that we really care about so uh as part of the University of ethereum uh we have been in operation for two years and we're continuously expanding our reach and impact in the blockchain education space so we currently have over 100 ch

chapters and was over 20,000 students in the network but just think about how many students from age 16 to um adult education continuous education um at the end of the day everyone is sort of a lifetime Learners right we've tried so hard to only create a network of 20,000 students but really the issue that we're encountering is a generational issue that our um digital literacy education can't keep up with the growth rate of technological innovation so I'm sure everyone here has

enough um literacy about U this web one to web two to web 3 era but did you learn about that at school or through any formal educational program um I guess the answer is no because I personally didn't learn that from um a fouryear uh a US college system um the internet has gone undergone profound transation transformation from the last 30 years so from the web one era where it's just um read and to web two it's read and write to now web three read write and own we really care about sharing this sort of

paradigm uh shift and the mindset shift was everyone uh especially the younger generation the leaders of tomorrow uh in the educational system but uh just purely even from the US education system the this sort of curriculum is not um focused or um prioritized um in in today's education system so we feel this cost is very important and and we need to raise the The Benchmark of digital literacy for our the next generation of leaders should not just be consumed by technology but really understands what's

going on so that they can continue to innovate so in terms of solution um what we've been trying obviously this is not the best way or um or by no means that we have solved this problem but uh uh here are the attempts that we have tried so um we have this philosophy to meet people where you are because there is a gap between Web Two audience and web two um just in general and web 3 uh um I guess Pioneers who see the future already but people seeing the future they're not necessarily going

back to educate the web to world so first thing we did was to create a dingo Style online learning platform um giving people the freedom um and the necessary resources to learn at their own pace so that they could um um they they could understand the the The Core Concepts of the industry um at their own pace um and we're also trying with this open-source knowledge repository where um everyone from the S the the space um the community can contribute to this knowledge database where everyone can uh continue to learn uh and involve with the blockchain uh uh

Innovations and the second thing uh it's important is uh for the more technical crowd um how to uh be onboarded into the web three space uh and start building uh so uh this uh sort of uh coding boot camp uh specifically focusing on ethereum ecosystem focusing on blockchain technology is important to equip um people who to equip the curious minds with the necessary technical skills um then last but not least um the way that we measure success is essentially how many uh Leaders of

Tomorrow are actually inspired to build and innovate in this space and that is is through um helping mentoring uh people um the the leaders and Builders to build their own projects that actually benefit the greater ecosystem so this multi-layer approach uh are what's uh important to not just address one type of people uh in the educational uh ecosystem but create different programming structured programming to meet people where they are and provide the necessary support um to to help people succeed in the space

and um at the end of the day um if you know you are equipped with the necessary knowledge and if you have the dedication you can succeed anywhere in any industry um especially for um uh for the ambitious young people um and then as the blockchain uh space we need to do a better job creating that uh ever expanding knowledge base and the necessary tool sets um and uh resources for people to come and learn as much as they can and then be inspired to build to make our space

better so um in terms of other approaches uh like I said you know by no means the things that that um we have tried have U necessarily solved the the issue but um you know for traditional classroom based education models um there are just not simply not enough curriculum uh in terms of academic research it's usually um couple years behind uh to catch up with the latest Innovation there is a gap between the academic world uh the traditional academic world uh with the the blockchain space um and uh in terms of

online education usually it's motivated by this Learn to Earn model uh where usually only incentivize people who already under standard space and usually incentivize people the wrong way so um each propos each of these approach has its own limitation um so it's important to set the right mindset to inspire people um and give people the necessary resources Library um the the knowledge base to continue um to to learn and if people are motivated with some necessary nudges um you not necessarily with tokens or

points um that's where we see we can Inspire and change the next generation of leaders so um and the last thing uh I will say here is this forum is a great opportunity for us to openly talk and um discuss these issues um because we need more people in the space um just uh you know we need more onchain users who feel comfortable who can use uh the technology responsibly and that starts from Raising The Benchmark of digital literacy to really understand how it evolved from web web one to web two to

web three and how we can all carry forward to innovate um to and then build for the future thank you [Applause] everyone are there any comments uh go ahead yeah I think the initiative is great and I think uh one of the question I have is uh perhaps on the inflow like where do you find intend to find like the uninitiated people um the reason I asked

this is like I'm also like we're also trying to solve very similar problem obviously different ways and it's awesome um and so like the inflow is kind of like the heart where I see its heart secondly is for different kind of people you sort of need like kind of different ways of talking to them as well so just like yeah so these great um for Cadence wise is whales back in the room yet no okay sorry one more spin 24 that is my thank

you morning everyone give me one second sorry so this um for just try to keep piece here um we're not going to let anyone else come to the podium because we need to control the computer as far as the clock um and then the the wheel just make sure we're on time and so this will be the last one is everyone okay with that cool all right uh yeah you should just stand up that's yeah no worries no worries morning everyone yeah hey everyone how you guys doing awesome so let me just start with

a question first how many of you here have gotten air drops in the last one year or so and how many of you have dumb them the the day after I know you'll not raise your hands I know who I'm talking to right but anyways guys uh this is a PO and I'm talking about a very controversial debated topic of airdrops and yeah I think I represent a community of people apps users who are in the space who are building and who are also looking for airdrop or at least you know getting fairly compensated for being early contributors to a lot of companies and the protocols in the space and uh yeah the company that I come from is interact but let's talk about what exactly is the problem that we're facing

right and I have a story for you guys quite relatable with most marketers and Community Builders here so suddenly one fin day you decide to launch a new blockchain in the space maybe there's some interoperability there there's some modularity all those you know cool fancy technological terms that come up and you launch the product you got some first, 2,000 users and then suddenly one fine day you start seeing a lot of uptick in all your numbers right and you become like Oh I'm a genius right I'm a marketer and I got like 50,000 users on my Platform One Fine Day and numbers are like hitting off the charts you never saw a retention rate that's like 80% week on week and then suddenly One Fine Day you do a token launch the

tge and the numbers drop that's exactly the problem I'm trying to solve so today air drops in the space lead to very poor retention and that comes from multiple sort of you know reasons right but the reason why this is super important is because if you think about web 3 one of the most important aspects of web 3 is incentive alignment and without incentive alignment the open decentralized networks will never be able to compete with the more centralized incumbents in the space and we've seen a lot of examples in the last 20 years like RSS for example which is a pretty cool protocol that I used but they haven't been able to hit inflection point and that's what we are trying to solve here as a community and this problem is super important because unless and until we solve this problem

of incentive alignment we'll never be able to attract long-term applications and Community Builders in the space let's talk about how are we approaching this right and this has been like a trial with fire Moro We have worked with some of the major layer TOS in the space Linea polygon stocket Tabby and by doing doing more those mistakes learning from those mistakes we have been able to come up with our own neat framework still slightly more theoretical and yet to be sort of battle tested I'll just walk you guys through it so there are three fundamental layers to this entire framework the first layer is just being able to collect more user data with

their consent of the users right and that includes publicly available data for example the wallets that you have even private data that you might be interested in sharing which could help us understand your preferences and we're starting to see that happen through some of these social media platforms like foraster where you can get those user preferences in as well then the second part is once you have all that data right making sense of it which is where you know we have our amazing developers shout out to one of my colleagues out here who sort of you know will help us figure out what to do with that data which I like to call the credential and reputation curation layer so what I mean by that is hey are you someone who dumps your tokens the day you sort of get them or are you someone who really believes

in being a developer and holding on to the tokens or you know even further more nuances like what about are you really human versus you know someone sitting in a random country running a click Farm running Cil Bots right those kind of things and then once you have all the data and the reputation attestations that you've created the third part is just being able to use that to drive the right type of incentives to the right type of users and this part of the framework is by the way the most untested there's a lot of ideas that we have been discussing with our partners with our community of around a million users who keep giving us feedback about how they think about air drops and the entire incentive design space and here the basic idea is as a user what should you be rewarded with and that's what

we're trying to answer some other very interesting Concepts I think I me I heard vitalic in ECC talk about it earlier concept of Perpetual air drops which I think will start playing out in the ecosystem pretty soon then we also have other aspects of why do you just need tokens as an incentive right there could be so much more in the design space of rewards ranging from discounts to gas fee rebates so I don't know there was a whale who spoke to me yesterday talking about how you would love an insurance and a def5 protocol in case of a big loss or a hack that happens so these kind of incentives which are more intrinsically driven Beyond just you know the extr extrinsic uh loyalty agnostic token rewards then let's talk about our approach right why did we take

this approach so like I mentioned pretty much by trial an error and it involved a lot of feedback from our community and we have seen some of the major players in the space actually validate that in a completely neutral fashion I think we have the zking team there we loved your token allocation criteria it was super crazy and we just want to go ahead and sort of you know Implement something similar with some of our other partners in the space as well right and while there may not be a very strong use case or a validation in the web 3 space today there are a lot of Web Two case studies around how retention can be driven by more data nuanced targeting and the type of rewards that you guys use then let's talk about the challenges while all of this is good there are obviously a lot

of things that we're still sort of figuring out so the first step is just being able to aggregate a lot of the user data and that has been a challenge but luckily we have in our life time interacted with 5 million wallets out of which around 500,000 are like monthly active in us and they have given us the consent to share the data with companies in exchange for incentives and we need to keep on growing that the major challenge here is getting more web 2 Data into web 3 and that's where I think some of the cool cryptographic words like ZK fhe te might come in and we can of use use those data sort of in the space the Second Challenge is just being able to get businesses to adopt this more Nuance targeting and that's where probably today we are not necessarily there at a level we still today just

have more civil filtering and proof of humanity filtering but nothing more on top of that and this is like my personal fear the third one so so in if we suppos do all of this t getting right and we are able to give protocols these 00 users who might really be interested in you that number might actually be small so that is something that we need to really think about as a space how do we get more real long-term users in the space and finally there are some technical complexities that we have been debating and trying to answer which includes being able to create a civil anti-il uh suit Which is less user experience friction creating as compared to most of the today's proof of humanity attestations or just being able to to contextualize the massive amount of

onchain data that we have you know you have Smart contract wallets you have chain abstraction these kind of Concepts coming in and that makes just interpreting data so much more you know weird and different so yeah that's pretty much from us hope you guys when you get air drops next time please don't Dum them and hold on to them [Applause] yeah any comments hi so uh great presentation the the questions that I have on this is like I'm personally not ignorant of the the the necessity to collect data because you learn about your users you learn like how you can help them how you can make sure they have good experiences but on the other side I'm also and a lot

of the matter Labs teams are like privacy Maxis right and I'm just curious how much time you've had to sort of think about is how can we target those those like experiences without actually holding on to the data without collecting it in centralized sources that might be exploitable or or you might have a malicious actor that buys the company or uh that's a great question um yeah but we're just doing commenting today uh again happy to carry these conversations outside of this platform anyone else if not we have the next one Jack hi everyone you I'm Jack Sako from

Argentina and I'm a web3 founder and through my experience on building wallets and infrastructure for the ecosystem I found that speaking with multiple Founders the main reason and the main problem usual retail have by joining our community is a fear they have of sending transactions and not sending to the correct user so we're trying to mitigate this risk by providing an infrastructure and then interoperability system where every single address on every network will have a Live code live three where words associated with it address if you were to send today a bank

transfer on I mean a bank transfer in every single country you would input an account number a routing number let's say in the US and the bank is going to immediately show you who you're sending the funds to in that sense every single user company can see who they're sending the funds can validate that the funds are going to be reaching the end user they're wanting to pay and that today is not possible in crypto so you find that many users fear that if they were copy pasting wrong there is any malware in their system where they copy pasted and another address popped in if they if they received a wrong address from the counterpart and trying to pay the funds

are completely lost and that is the sense of security I we I think that we should start giving the retail users in order for their funds not to be lost so our idea for example is if we had Alice and Bob if Alice wanted to receive a the payment from Bob per se Alice would be sharing not only its eth address but a three-word code which is randomly generated and Bob would in in his wallet he would input Alice's Ox address and three words will pop up so he will be able to validate immediately in live that he's sending

the funds to Alice's correct address by doing this we mitigate the risk of funds being lost on chain to practically zero and users on the user side they will feel comfortable and safe knowing that their funds are being received by Alice or the counterparty they want to send the funds to right now um the this I think is the major the ma the major problem we see in adopting retail into web 3 and basically this is what we're trying to get a Consortium of different web three founders within owners of wallets ecosystem exchanges that want to reduce the risk of funds

being lost on chain and adopting an easy to use infrastructure like the one done in today's payments domestic payment rails into the web 3 ecosystem right now we are approaching multiple Founders multiple wallets with already millions of users to adopt our system and make cross chain and onchain interal ability and sending funds as easy as possible for web two or web 3 users that are joining today our community thank you very [Applause] much hey um apart from the sort of

transfer risk in terms of making a mistake uh at the execution level what other the sort of uh major problems have you found from the retail Community when it comes to onboarding into web 3 including things like making wallets and and things like this uh that's a question we have like five six I mean if you are happy to answer that go yeah absolutely I think that the the highest risk retails see is losing funds you a crypto Savvy person so you know how to send funds receive funds and know where the money is is going I usually check ether scan or any address to validate that that's true or you send a test

before if it's a large amount by doing this live the the ways you're live validating that you're sending to the address you want to send I think that's by copying the existing Market banking system Market grade Benchmark I think that's the way that we can achieve being a sending anding funds as fast as easy as possible we're using that risk to zero uh quick comment I think this is a very interesting uh problem to solve um one one thing it's uh that pops to my mind is like name Services uh but yeah so like perhaps that's something that

complement and I I'll be interested to kind of like discuss and then see how that can you know maybe complement or like you know help absolutely a complementation is alyses e or any single um alas if you see how many addresses have an ens domain or any do e domain are extremely little compared to the the rest and The Usual Suspects of those who generate those addresses are super web3 um oriented users not the ones that are open a crypto wallet just want to send funds to friends or receive domestic small volume transactions and that's where our solution comes into place it's done

super oriented to retail users not crypto savy users because none of us probably see this as a huge issue but whenever you start speaking with retail their largest fear is losing all the funds because they understand that you own your own funds and we own if you're a non-ob wallet you own your own funds but when you have to send that's when the risk starts taking in and you see the banking infrastructure today they reduce that risk to practically zero whenever you do that transaction you'll see you'll be sending money or USD or pesos or whatever a domestic wire transfer to me and then you can immediately validate it's reaching the right person I actually I think it's solving even that problem I don't think

that's solved on a banking level either I think this is a really good idea because even in banking you have this long I band that you might misspell one number if you copy paste it like it's really really clunky and I get scared to send money with a normal bank right so I think this is a really good idea I do think that like from a user experience point of view we need to move to the fact that everyone has like ens or some sort of domain but still you might mistype someone's name like you might uh there might be scams on Twitter where it send money to vital. eth but the L is actually not a l right like I I really like this idea I really really like this idea for protection of consumers all it actually reminds me a

lot of um like secret past phrases and so it just occurred to me listening to you for the first time that like for past phrases we have these cool like 12-word phrases but then for public Keys we have these numbers that are like completely unreadable so like have you thought about what if we just changed like public addresses to be displayed as like 12-word like phrases instead or yeah I think that I don't know your name but the guy said just beside you answered exactly that question typos or any type of misleading a capital ladders or ladders in between that people misread the copy pasting is still pretty a risky in a way if we able to validate whenever you send that transaction that

you're sending to the right address that's that's the best way we another possible way was integrating a ether scan to know which was the last transaction but at the same time you're losing a bit of privacy there because you're adding that as value if you add a random through word a like I don't know tree apple orange might be my my my words I'll send that to you when you'll see immediately that's mine so you won't even have to do any other um further system to understand if you're I'm receiving the funds or if you sending correct to me a yeah we're using the risk to zero so just to close off and thank you very much for all the questions they're super interesting if anyone here is developing ad appap or

has a community that are building wallets super oriented to retail would love to talk to each other and connect and see how we can build this worldwide today we're working in artina as our main playground mostly of my network and um my colleagues Network we'd love to take this International and make it Global today we're just we're in the process of finding the right product Market fit in Argentina and then launching it as more deps and wallets are interesting in using this thank you so much [Applause] up next Joshua bait okay hey everybody um my name is

Joshua I'm the founder of DSi world I'm here today representing the decentralized research Community as opposed to the general D Community um my paper has a of information about the technical solution potentially of how we might solve this problem but I'll riff a little bit on the overarching problem itself so DSi which is decentralized science is designed to improve Academia and the scientific process using web3 Technologies you can think you know publishing research funding data management identity reputation peer review such things as this um but science is much larger than the industry of Academia and science that that we

have today science is just the concept of using the world around you understanding the world around you sharing that knowledge with each other collaborating to find out the truth of things and so knowledge in this sense is a very broad uh very broad topic that shouldn't really be institutionalized in the way that it is right now and so we believe uh at D World and in the decentralized research community in general that people's knowledge is very valuable even if it's not sanctioned by a university or a research organization or you know an expert group or a Nobel Prize for example so as we're moving quite rapidly towards an aid driven future where a lot of the resources the

data the knowledge that we have is sort of being fed to us via these Aid driven interfaces so chatbots for example you lose a few things you lose a lot of the Nuance of the data uh not to get too technical but the way that rag llm systems a lot of chatbot systems work is they take many pieces of data and then sort of synthesize it into one answer and then they give that to you it has a unique voice which is dictated by the model so chat GPT sounds like chat GPT Claude sounds like Claude And if we continue to interact entirely with these Bots these models we're going to all start to think and sound like chap gbt or Claude they call it the chat GTP chat GPT ification of

voice um as this AI Paradigm continues to to sort of happen it's very likely that the value of humans is going to change quite rapidly this happened with the manufacturing sector uh we sort of got outpaced by automation on the conveyor belts and you know Ford basically reduced massively in the 30s their Workforce and and put in in place Automation and this is happening you know already we've sort of been replaced by machines in the manufacturing process this is already happening in the service industry as well um cashiers cleaners teachers lawyers are sort of being done now by machines and as this happens humans are going to find it more and

more difficult to provide value that they can get paid for to society so the economy SS starts to break down now if the econom is breaking down what can humans actually contribute to that Paradigm and we think that that is uh knowledge okay so as humans produce knowledge and that knowledge can be used by AI in this Future How do we maintain that value how do we maintain the the ownership of that knowledge in this future as I said AI sort of removes uh the individual from this data now bringing in blockchain and the ethereum ecosystem uh the decentralized Paradigm is perfect for these two use cases for tracking the Providence tracking the

ownership of that knowledge and also valuing and returning that value back to the users we believe that as this sort of future takes place knowledge transfer can be facilitated on chain and this is through the concept of attestations which are relatively new primitive which allow for gas-free transactions to sign uh a claim to a wallet address to a piece of data we've developed a system which you can read about in The Proposal that allows for people to containerize their knowledge on chain and have it read by llm or by AI the point of this is that in the future knowledge should be available on chain as a public good it should be available so people can use

it and they can read it and they can do science with it and they can collaborate in a multiplayer research environment globally without the permissions of Institutions without permissions of universities for example that value should be maintained if it is then useful to to eventually a product it becomes IP or something like this the value that is created should then be given to the people that create and maintain that knowledge we believe that if knowledge is to be on chain there should be new data Primitives new interoperable standards for this data especially that which can be read by AI you can think of many other data Primitives but we're focusing on that here and so in the future we are hoping that there will be multiple standards if not one or two or three like an erc20 is for a token

standard a standard for data of knowledge knowledge standards and so we think that this is important for the future of uh value creation the future of scientific research and just the future of Humanity's participation in a future driven by AI the challenges to this approach are many the first approach that we think the first challenge that we think uh is the communication of this idea communicating the Simplicity of a data standard and the complexity of making it work on chain and making it work with AI we see it as an opportunity to allow for

communities and individuals and you know people at home as well as large institutional creators to create interesting interfaces to the knowledge Paradigm by accessing this sea of data the data lake is a common concept and if it's an open source freely available to read to and freely available to write to data Lake then the amount of useful knowledge applications can be massive and this will improve participation in science this will improve the creation of new knowledge and for us we think it's the inevitable next step of the decentralized AI Paradigm is a fully standardized fully open source free to access API for machine readable data we're working on this it's a massive

Challenge and if anyone's interested in it we would like to see uh some support we are building this as a layer a data layer so if you are building apps that require machine readable data you can integrate with this data layer um and and I think as much as we wish the future of Science and Academia is going to be driven by sort of scientists in the lab creating science it's likely that that's not going to be the case it's likely to be driven by agents speaking to agents speaking to agents and then producing something that is probably distributed by agents to people if we can maintain the humanity in that by having a data standard that is attributed to a user to an individual

human and make that chain of value directed back to the people that started this basic research then we can keep humans at the center of the AI driven future and decentralized blockchains in my opinion is the only way that this can work so thank you and I'll take any [Applause] comments uh first thing I want to comment this is awesome and immediately in my bra I'm starting to imagine it's not only putting or incentivizing who is in the not or creating correct knowledge but also there's a way to bring responsibility on misinformation like the knowledge that you bring into the AI into the whole world right then you kind

of can build that backwards and if we have that integrated into the AI and all AI knows is that this is what I'm quoting this is what I'm quoting now on the front end of system you can Mark hey I don't want to use these particular data points has been you know maybe marked by Community notes that are misinformation Cur decentralized curation exactly so I I think this is awesome like would love to see how it grows and I just love the part where uh like blockchain is actually used to um desent

like to empower communities because uh the typical model of like open AI for example doesn't um really get back to the users and so I would love to see more of this kind of like use cases uh for blockchain so thanks for doing that yeah one thing I want to highlight which I forgot to highlight um when you allow for knowledge to be created permissionless and read permissionless you don't get to control what is considered to be valuable or useful knowledge right the people who query and the data process itself controls what is useful knowledge um and that means that if you're I don't know uh a herbologist living in the Amazon rainforest and you

have some very very specific knowledge over what herbs cure fever that can generate you some income on a global scale if you're a researcher in for example Africa and you don't have the same resources or opportunities that you might do if you are at a lab in Stanford you don't have to leave your country to go there you can actually stay in your country and contribute to the economy in your local country because you're valued and because you have that distribution Channel with this decentralized network and uh it's very important thank you thank you that was fascinating um okay next up we have Leona

hi hi I'm Lea from Max and the today uh I want to propose something about our L and the I've been researching their SC of is for many years since their plasma day uh maybe was like five or six years ago and I'm a big F L2 and the L2 is great and the right now TBL of L2 is increasing significantly day by day and the so many users are on boarded how with el2 and the on boarded in our it on eum B2 so so far L2 is there no core no right now core value ofum right now on

the it's proceeding well but we need to admit that uh there's a rather big problem here uh in L2 ecosystem so today I want to talk about the the why L2 is great and also why L2 has a huge problem at the same time uh nowadays so the problem is called fragmentation and the there's two types of fragmentation first is that uh liquidity fragmentation on the many kind of tvl are distributed to many l right now so so for over 10 or over 10 famous L are onum on the their TV are quite fragmented to do these are uh no

and the for example if I use Unis swap I can use Unis swap on AUM and the Unis swap of the other l2s and the the let's say uh if we fragmented the liquidity on our2 we can have a we could have a kind of uh bigger uh s page and the kind of centralization or concentration of the uh liquidity is quite important in terms of usability on the yeah kind of uh enhancing their def ecosystem but uh it's right now recommended this is one of the problem uh and the so many people are talking about this problem and the I I don't uh

talk about this uh I don't talk about that uh today and the I want to talk about the fragmentation of community and the recognition today so we have our yeah we can we know many El right on the famous stuffs are like no AIT drum base optimism zings and the stock Weare and tyo so so many and scroll so many kind of uh no famous l2s and they are very technically sophisticated and the also people are people working on that and the users are no having their no attraction on

that but at the same time nowaday is elus works like a different chain uh no out of uh eum itself so I went to many places actually and the last year I went to uh Latin America Africa and the no uh Asia and the and I went to Ukraine last month and the I went to many places to to see the real adoption of serum and what I noticed uh was that people recognizing elu other different change and they don't recognize elus as etherum or parts of etherum so this is one of the problem simply because our etherum

that brand kind of name brand is quite huge and the people recognizing and the trust in etherium itself and if we cannot uh recognize elus as as etherum uh we cannot onboard people as isans right and the so this is the fragmentation of the community or recognition and the we can uh know we need to fix that problem and so on the infrastructure or recognition fragmentation is what we originally both do uh back to the days or five years ago or six years ago and right now it's quite no fragmented other recognition

and the people proceeding uh this direction so for so let's say name brand ofum and the also the no founders of isum leer one and the know Community uh those who raise the community of isum they cannot free on both R TOS uh simply because of their competition and the so let's say for example EF people or famous are no are isans a like no including balic oh he cannot promote specific or layer do or simply because of the competition right no if they invol that it they they can

they can break their competition and the they cannot promote specific one layer to or no kind of freely or yeah fly and this is a one of the problem simply because Layer Two especially stage two layer two is a part part ofum but they cannot promote that so much so I have proposal that to to fix this problem uh this is a announcing or stage to our layer to or welld developed stage one ethereum other parts of ethereum so let's say yeah if a bitum is a stage two

a bitum we can say that is eum a vrum right on the let's say for example there AWS ler and the know this kind of Serv name or the part of their no ecosystem name uh we can see their no pref are are there no bigger ecosystem right like uh so let's say we can say that are ethereum eler no etherum blah blah like no etherum Z Inc a b drum in your future right and the it makes a lot of kind it fixes a lot of Problem Problem by announcing that uh with their uh deep deep kind of du uh no whether or

not each elu is a actually part of ethereum and inheriting their uh whole security of ethereum so yeah at the end uh yeah let's uh get back to the real meaning of elu no elu invented for scary in serum uh four kind billions people on the no billions ordinal people and right now people recognizing uh elus as a different chain and the only a crypto very deep Tech guy and you know crypto Mania recognizing El's other uh parts of eum but El itself is for billions people right so let's make

it kind of tempor for their people and the yeah and then otherwise we cannot make their etherium a great adaption uh for other biggest uh blockchain in this world thanks so much any comments yeah um hi you're sort of mentioning the endorsement of l2s from The Ether perspective so that users can trust those l2s is that correct is there any sort of potential centralization concerns and exclusionary concerns with this oh what what they say

last time or uh centralization or exclusion concerns from the ethereum perspective that maybe an L2 that spins up that is not considered to be acceptable from ethereum but is still acceptable being pushed out of the of the conversation so basally I'm I I think that are people should free to develop our no eludes and the people can feel free to build our eludes or no if it's are inheriting our food security resum and the it's a free competition and the yeah competition is fine and the competition is great hard because in terms of kind of progress of their development but on the so we don't have to make a centralization of one L2 or

making uh one great L2 with kind of technology combining them uh we are we want to kind of uh due deligence all kind of uh we need to verify the L2 other part of the serum inheriting the food security ofum or not so we need let's say it doesn't eliminate the no stage one elus on the basically you know it's feel free to to kind of AD advertise their Els or or kind of state one L to or yeah uh or side chain and the yeah we can make our just verification uh no to to make a Fair

competition right so I think that's kind of verifying uh kind some l2's other part of eum or kind of free inheriting security of eum it's it doesn't break their kind of competition and it doesn't make a centralization and it's just a no kind of paper in ePrint or something like that it's like a quite academic stuff on the know we can make that uh free uh no correct way uh no in in terms of our kind of fairness on competition in my opinion I mean I think that's a fair point of like like we have L2 beat already which is kind of trying to do

this but there is also a lot of Sor we need to carry on sorry awesome thanks Jason you're up next cool um do great cool yeah thank you so much for having me here so um I'm Jason I'm the CTO and co-founder at puffer Labs um we're building a liquid raking protocol and what I wanted to talk about today is really this coordination problem that um we seem to be caught up in and I think is just very prevalent in this space um around like accelerationism with eth staking so maybe before jumping into that just like to talk more higher level um a lot of these conversations have been about

decentralization and really in my mind like validators for ethereum are really like the lifeblood of the decentralization here and it's really important that we maintain this level of permissionless um like accessibility for people to participate um and don't let it all just get captured by like a certain small number of entities and so um with re staking now this has been kind of a Hot Topic um like this year and I I want to preface this with like this isn't supposed to be anti reaking or anti lrts this is more of a way to bring awareness um to the space about kind of what's happening in our Corner over here and so like so reaking is this idea where you have your validators and

you're able to essentially take on additional responsibilities um and we've kind of seen like really um lots of accelerationism here um which was like a very stark contrast from like the last bare Market um where like builders in the space um for just normal liquid staking here um the focus was on like fundamentals from a tech side of like can I build something permissionless can I build it um like accessible and like there's lots of different technologies that were introduced and those being like distributed validator technology this idea taking your validator splitting it up into multiple shares so

that you're not like running into one point of failure another one is anti-s slashers this was like a hardware based approach like you can have your your validator lock their keys in this black box and the idea is that like if the black box is ever compromised what you have now is your validator key so it's like strict uh security improvements and so these types of Technologies were like really championed and um sort of highlighted um in the public conversation like during the last um kind of bare market and recently with u reaking so what we have now are liquid reaking protocols um like puffer and what they're doing is still running

validators just with more um responsibilities and what I've kind of noticed within this space is this accelerationism has sort of left the industry kind of forgetting about a lot of the core values that we we came into the space with like maintaining a decentralized validator set um right now like puffer has tried hard to be like permissionless day one like anyone can run a validator but of course like that's difficult it has costs whether that's in time in resources and what what this is is like now we're in a coordination problem like we we really want to maintain like this level of decentralization across the network but the incentives are pointing like all

these projects to go fast like solve it later we've kind of even abandoned the whole like I have a road map to decentralization like people don't even have road maps we're just like going to launch it and fix it later and so what this really is um this proposal is more of like I want to bring like awareness to this issue and also like I guess the outcome of this would be more Community pressure on these different um reaking protocols whether it's like at the actual reaking protocol level um whether this is like the igen layers or the symbiotics or the carxs but also for the liquid reaking protocols like the ones that are actually running the validators can we as a community Focus back on the

fundamentals like is it permissionless like that should be like a benchmark that people really care about when they're talking about these um higher Benchmark Pro than than yield I would say um and as well as like so permissionless being the first one and then really adopting all of these technologies that have been built like anti-s slashers or DVT like these are simple additions that these protocols can make that can significantly improve decentralization across the network but also significantly reduce user risk and so if we're talking about like the long-term like sustainability of the network I'd say like making it keeping it permissionless keeping it kind of as

the status quo but also trying to like reduce all of these risks that are coming up and whether this like even just means slowing down getting more audits things like that so I think like the best analogy here is similar to that um like there's the call to De accelerate or decelerate like AI like um for like General AI because um there's a lot of Unsolved things um but then it's a coordination problem if one person doesn't slow down and someone else everyone else is now they have an advantage so really like this is a market problem but I think the best thing that we can do instead of like solving the market is try to apply some

kind of pressure from the community on all of these protocols to kind of um keep building in a way that's like sustainable and and healthy for the long run so I guess like the takeaway like if there was any kind of metrics here it would be like trying to hold your protocol accountable to be permissionless and adopt these typ of Technologies thank [Applause] you since we have four minutes maybe I can ask just a very light question which is how do we organize that Community reaction and how do we hold them accountable how do we measure this like these are the questions that like you

said what you said was exactly right of like anyone that doesn't do these things is actually at an advantage right yeah so uh hard question I think like you just mentioned L2 beat for l2s like I think having some kind of metrics and dashboarding for that that can really show users so actually I think on like ethereum.org they had this before for just normal liquid staking protocols and it was this whole like series of checks like battle tested like smart contract audits permission list Etc and I think we kind of need to continue in that spirit for all of the these new things and and I think this kind of comes back to the point earlier that

Ellie was making was like there's education and then there's like the advances on the tech side and we need to like make sure that the education is keeping up with those was a comment over there yeah well my comment is actually uh very similar to that and so I was actually looking into reaking uh protocol a lot and um you know uh also made a presentation to kind of educate people uh on the different risk essentially reaking is like in my opinion kind of like a yield aggregator framework and then you have to know all the risks of uh AVS how they actually work and uh it's it's

interesting that you know when you compare then there's different trust assumptions from Igan layer to kak to symbiotic uh you know like I If I recall correctly like kak U made that simplified the design and make the operator the evolved owner Etc these kind of things are actually small details but has like significant uh implications on trust assumptions Etc and I think those definitely needs to be highlighted so great support there all right

16 Porter yeah cool hi all right thanks for having me I'm Porter from matter Labs um I have a a zcat which is very fun um so I I'm an engineer and but today I want to talk more about the ethereum community specifically conversations between developers and users um most noticeably I think the the developers and the users have kind of increasingly become two separate communities and I think this is largely bad and it's getting worse and so my kind of call to action and like a 20 second talk is just we should be friends again and like devs should talk to users

users should talk to devs users should be more involved in like core protocol decisions core protocol devs should still be in like discords and Telegram with the fun users and we should have like a good time all together so I'll slow down now and go through it all a little more specifically um if you spend as much time on Twitter as I do you've probably heard recently stuff like devs do something and like can somebody please build a real world application please and then that's more from the user side and then from the developer side maybe they're not tweeting as much but the the sad truth is a lot of the developers are not uh using a lot of crypto and they're just they show up for

their jobs and they go home and it's it's they're kind of like um actually I think it's part of the reason why a lot of developers have been burnt out very recently I see more and more developers choosing like not to even want to work in crypto they don't feel like they're having an impact on the world and I think it's completely because they're just not talking to users like I think we have like way more impact on users around the world than like almost any other industry and almost any other job so it's very confusing to me when I see people leave because they want to have like an impact somewhere else like I think we could do a lot you just if if you don't see the users and you don't talk to them it's hard to like see really like what impact you're

having um so I'm rambling a little bit and going jumping around on my points but I think like one of the challenges is going to be like can uh users actually learn about like the core protocol and get involved in the other side I think from the users perspective um a lot of them feel sort of left out of the core protocol they don't really know what's happening things happen and then sort of like as the updates coming through they're like oh shoot like I agree with this or I don't agree with this but either way like I didn't know this was coming and so it sort of alienates the users over time if they they sort of aren't involved and like progressing the community forward and I think maybe initially some devs would

say like well the users can't understand my my stuff's very technical so there's no way they're going to be able to get it I think that's largely not true I look at the AI industry and like there's all kinds of people who can tell you about large language models and gradient Descent of just like random people around the world my sort of litmus test for this is if my dad can talk about it and and my dad will start talking about like small highle differences between like the different types of AI and even though work in crypto and he's my dad he cannot tell me small differences between like blockchain protocols or sort of what's even being worked on U everyone's heard about Bitcoin around the world everyone's heard about ethereum probably but if you talk to them like what's

happened in the last like two or three years in terms of like core protocol development no one can tell you anything at best they've seen some new meme coins this week and that's kind of like their information that they've been working on so I think there's kind of two ways to solve the user and developer divide or yeah user developer divide uh one either we just rely on some big influencers and the big influencers can just go and like you know some really great technical people could just put out like the best explanations ever for like EIP coming in and like that's going to you know get millions of views on YouTube and we're going to be set because somebody will just like do a really good job

influencing I think this kind of works but it's kind of not great and probably not like the web three way we want to do this I think a much happier way to solve this problem is to just like have everyone be friends and instead of like one massive influencer telling the whole world how everything works is like just everyone in this industry should try and do a better job of like the core developers specifically should try and do a better job of talking to users and we can all sort of on board our own communities and our own groups try to keep everyone up to date and like what's going on what's happening with progress and and I think this sort of like what decentralized communication method as opposed to like more centralized influencers um is like a a great

approach and so that's the summary of my my call to action today is we should all try and do a better job talking to users uh we should of the developers side and then users try and get to know the developers a little bit more I think it'll be safer too for the users if they kind of like know a little bit of the details of what's Happening probably less likely to get rugged less likely to um be alienated by the community and so I think let's all try and get along let's all try and build ethereum together and let's have developers and users be friends again thank you so there was a second part of this as well uh my name is Lumi I'm a senior product manager at matter Labs working

on CK sync too so this is like this is what we want for the space for ethereum in general and then I think it's it's a core responsibility of every developer here not just to talk to your users but to be a user of your own protocol right like go through the same Journey play the games with them and there's some efforts that matter Labs as a company does towards this so for example after every wave we have which is two months now we have a onewe hackathon we force our devs to use their like the protocol because you'd be surprised by how few of them have any time to do any on anything on ZK sync or or actually build on it right we all have busy schedules so we force that into company action we have

ZK lunch and learn where like you play different games on ZK sync play with the different uh nfts all the leadership team all the higher level like seniors are forced to play with nfts and meow coin and like these different communities that are building so you understand what is it like to use it what are you getting as a temperature check from the community there's a dollar a day program you get money on ZK sync that you can then play around with um we we have ZK Playhouse for the community where everyone can get together and play together including the developers building on the platform they can play with the other players learn about the other games other projects and then they can incorporate those we also

have a lot of groups internally and externally that can connects those users to the builders or Builders to builders and we spend a lot of time fac facilitating this to make sure that we can really grow the ecosystem internally this is something I think we should adopt on ethereum in general every protocol every team should make sure to be the users also to uh like work with the users because that's the only way you can grow it into a product Market fit okay thank you that's [Applause] it um yeah so I I I would say that it it is really important for developers to talk to those actual users because from

the reality what we've been seeing is a lot of like individual developers or smaller teams that are building product that no one is actually using nor the protocols that has been raising like hundreds of millions that they are like still Building Product like no one is using so it is really important for them to actually know what the user want what the market really wants how do you introduce yourself at a party how do you say that you do DZ research at a party it's a great question how do I introduce myself as like a ZK researcher um I mean yeah we're trying to work on better explanations for like the heavy

duty cryptography stuff I was like you specifically though like I I love trying to explain like the most technical things possible uh this is uh I actually do have time uh I used to be on Tik Tok and and trying to cond cond like anything into a one minute short where the user or Watcher probably has like no idea of any technical background is like a very fun challenge actually and so yeah I enjoy I encourage more people to be creators I don't know if that answered your question but yeah [Applause] thanks okay next up looks like two looks like two okay

that's Jane this Jane here yeah okay uh hi everyone this is Jane and um so before my talk today I really want to do a quick like survey like or engagement call like if you are a developer or if you ever like Leverage any kind of AI tool to write a single line of code even if it just Holo world uh please raise your hand okay so we do have a good amount of developers here and today my talk is um about like the developer economy on

etherium so um um um I want to say there of course like uh due to the developer report that uh Electric Capital has uh wrri like continuously um that uh we have about like 30k active developers in the web space and through some of my like researchers I noticed like about uh 60 to like 70% is active uh web stre developers are in the etherum ecosystem so I do want to say that we are driving a lot of traffic into directing developers into the um into the crypto World um and uh we do need to continue ly to on board more developers into the

space and when we are comparing the number of developers that are active building um in the web two and web space like we do realize that we do have a very small community um in the in a certain I um space and um sorry like I would I I didn't like really like U prepare too much but um uh so um um so for uh develop economy I would

say it's really like um similar to create a economy but no one really talks about it because um the way way that like traditional developers think about you know what they're going to do is they will normally get a degree at UC Berkeley or CMU and then go to work at Amazon that's the B that's the best way that a developer can think about you know what they're going to do with their career but uh I will say um ethereum really opens a new door for a lot of developers whether it's uh individual developers or like smaller teams of developers that really want to change change the world that want to build something that is

fantastic so um because we do like the way that um aerum work is always being like bottom up we don't need to you know get permission from like uh all those like big like f that um to build something uh that we think that matters to the community um and um we do have a lot of like support in terms of like grants or retroactive funding for those developers who want to build um like new stuff however like uh a lot of uh people didn't realize that uh we do have those kind of resources around us and um also like um I feel like until this day like

um we've been focusing too much on the infrastructure level which we are like actively funding uh projects that are main building like the ethereum infrastructure and the result we've been seeing is like of course we've been like kind of partially solve the scalability issue you know we have a million l2s that are coming out today but no one is really using it the reason why is we don't really have like good applications that user can actually use so the it's it's very similar to what we been seeing like two years ago with all the Dow toolings so there were about like I think 1 million D toolings out there but

only like a 100 DS that are using those tools so um I would I would say it's um in like we should encourage more developers to build more consumer facing application in the space and also like um our like incentive or like funding should all also like go more towards those like consumer facing applications because I feel like a a lot of developers when I talked to them they they were kind of like ashamed or like uh looked down into themselves if they are building an application instead of an infrastructure or it will just like look like less cool if they say uh yeah I'm just building and like a d App

instead of a like a protocol that like seems to have you know a great potential so um so uh I would love to you know uh propose like a new like uh thing called developer economy which can help individual developers to whether get better funding or to better talk to users that are actually going to use their product in the future um um so uh it's kind of like uh very similar to getcoin which um developers can actually um get uh the initial

funding through the people that have been using their uh project before instead of like just announce that I'm going to do like a point system or a air drop in the future to have a million of like um air Farmers to um you know Farm their project um so um yeah sorry I I kind of like lost my mind for a sec but um yeah um I would say um we should definitely pay more attention

to like developers and encourage those people to not pursue the route of getting a job at Amazon at the end of their career they should really be buing something that is Meaningful and you know without you know you know the leverage of those like big companies as the as the main like uh source of funding or where they can start their project I think that should be it for my [Applause] talk I have a comment um as a builder of a consumer application and also going

through the funding process one thing that I do know notice is the funding sort of people that have funding when they're looking to maybe potentially fund uh consumer facing applications the things they look for is of course and understandably users and current revenue and things like this but as you mentioned uh with the Dow tooling know's a million Dow tools and only like you know 100 people in the Dows and it's the same with the user applications we need the user applications to bring the users but there's no users because there's no user application so when you're building a user application uh looking for funding is actually very difficult because because rightly so funders want to see traction before the application is invested in uh but how do you get traction when there's no users it's just a chicken and an egg problem and I think

a few more uh funding organizations need to take more risks uh and and and have a bit more belief in the future of the of the retail entrance rather than what is actually currently right here yeah um also have a comment on uh the getting into the web 2 developers into the web Fe so we're doing something along that way but more on the technical side not encouraging them to build you know application Level but like more just introduction so there's like another thing I'm seeing uh somehow some people stigmatize is like oh web free like outside of web free where people don't understand they're like oh this is

not as cool or like this you know they they sort of like relate web free with uncool things and so what we do is like we go to the community open source community and then give talks there and even have a track there so I I think like slowly building towards there removing the stigma and also like having that reward is like as you said like the this this Creator e comy will be great [Applause] so thank you so much try you're next hello everyone um thank you for

having me so I'm Jan fernandz Lees I'm the founder of my own law firm in Switzerland and the co-founder of Forman web 3 Switzerland so we are an association that has been founded I would say only in March last year in 2023 and already we have achieved some great milestones and I will explain why why but we have achieved about 3,000 member and still counting every day and have 50 plus Partners within 12 months and we are looking forward to Growing even more our community at the moment we exist already in several location in Switzerland and We Gather communities in

different part of the world such as Morocco the balcans South Africa Dubai of course and I am here also to build in Asia so we are expecting to be present in Asia very soon too so what problem are we addressing and why is it important I'll give you a few numbers figures that shows uh more than if I was to tell more a lot of text so the weaper industry shows great disparities because only 133% of startups include a female funer and Mer merely three% have all female teams why female constitute almost

27% in the of the workforce in the top web three startups and primarily in non-technical role such as HR and marketing on the on the other side I don't want to do do contrast but male dominate the fields especially in roles relating to technology and Leadership so in an era of digitalized economies with imaging Technologies as well there are many various potential future digital worlds that are possible so we want to promote talents for generation of all levels and increase diversity by creating a safe but especially an attractive space to

attract more female talents in a traditionally male dominated space such as finance and technology and this has become vital that's why we want to see digital world and Al we have noticed in Europe but in particular in Switzerland the ecosystem are mainly made of investors and white colors I would say specialist in different fields in other part of the world we can see entrepreneurs Founders and developers and we believe that we need to make them meet so what is the purpose and the mission of our association we want to empower the

individual through the group and the group through the individual and what does it mean we have created a platform for women web three to support Empower collaborate and uplift one another which mean we create connection we share opportunities we share knowledge so we welcome as many question as possible whatever the question are so of of course our members are women but our sponsors our partners our mentors can be men and women because we all are part of the community and while doing so we want to

showcase and highlight contribution by woman whatever the role she has and we want to increase the present of female role show models and promote the voice in the web ecosystem so we have we organize our own events but we participate to many uh part um other events Our Community Partners but we provide also speaker on TV shows we also provide possibility to write as author in different journal and newspaper to be features in articles all possible channels that come to our reach and of course literally we like to hear

voice on radios and sometime what we like is indeed the accessibility and the visibility what do we see so we show and showcase that Korean Tech and diverse Tech Career paths are possible and attractive because I think we we always talk about the visibility but it's nice to see but it's even better to be convinced that is super cool that is really a possible career path and their development and future as well but the question is even if we do all of that are the voes heard and seen and

what are the usability of the Technologies are they really that super friend user friendly and we have noticed that the usual kpis no longer work we need to find new approaches and new way to leverage them the very traditional ones that we hear all the time is is there enough women on board are there policies on in place are there what is the percentage of women in ex teams Etc we believe in education and funding we have heard that a lot of good project can be brought and created by both men and women but we have noticed that the difference in fundraising it's

just just not huge it's just breast taking so why have we done this approach we want to educate as early as possible because talent and drive don't wait for the years and also I believe like we've been talking a lot in the financial sector about financial Behavioral Studies I believe that behavioral businesses is also interesting interesting for example I give you an example for women for for the word risk means risk but actually we can think about risk is opportunity when we are offered for

example speakership opportunity our first reaction is to think wow can I do it am I really qualified to do it even if it's what you think just speak take the risk but on the other side also consider differently what is opportunity because opportunity can be very different from different perspective in particular indeed between men and women so why have we continuing education and also call for fundraising and we support so many different events and also initiative from our peers that's because we have received a massive response Switzerland is a small country consider

the massive respon that we have received not in Switzerland but also beyond the borders we know that there is a need there is a message that people want to convey so we would like to have as many talents today and future join our journey as many as possible so we believe our women Wy Switzerland has been has succeeded to Bringing together great diversity of skills among its rank so we we aim to promote diversity of Background by supporting educational project for

future generation three countries have been identified because we believe that it has great potential but it's just a start of course Morocco India and Vietnam we have noticed that they have very different breeding grounds but many many interesting young girls super eager and happy to start and develop in the ICT stem sectors so what are the anticipated challenges of course every country is different every sector is also different uh precise recognition identification of needs identification ofco as well as well as gather collect and convey to the

right place the resources so that we can carry out the project successfully and above all we want to have onsite presence with locals with people who live there who know the tent who can coordinate alliance between the different countries between the different communities and where who who are ready to exchange and support and develop active communities thank you very much [Applause] previously I was part of um just a small

little forum for female Founders in web 3 and I think one of the major things that we need to take in account is to have um allies to support us and and that is we need as many allies not just female allies but male allies and to to make sure that this place is safe for us to build thank you thank you so much so sorry we have to move on Chris yeah all right hello everyone I'm Chris carella my affiliation is with noun I'm here representing grants programs grants councils vter quadratic funding um participants the problem I

want to talk about is that it's actually very hard to trust projects um when you're cing grants it's difficult to prove they are who they say they are and it's difficult to know if they've accomplished what they've said they've accomplished and trust is kind of the basis of all of this kind of um uh value Exchange in real life and so whether I'm buying dimmer and I know you're going to pay me back back or I'm a VC and I'm going to cut you a $10 million check there's a lot of just trust that goes into that uh that we have in our offline offchain worlds onchain it's much more difficult wallets can be rotated EMS can be transferred um who submits a grant from Grant to Grant can change and so at

one point it's the CEO but and then at the next point it's a business development person and so it's often hard to know who are you actually dealing with and there's a lot of duil that has to be done through a grants program that we would hope would be solved through the blockchain um and so what I'm proposing here is that we build these reputation events that we use EAS to build project attestations and then that those projects get reputation attestations on top of them and so a good example is if uh I'm evaluating a grant I want to see if you've been awarded another Grant uh not just on my chain but on any chain I want to know if

you've delivered on your Milestones I especially want to know if you have not delivered on your Milestones uh and even other reputation events like you participate in governance uh you're a standup Community member You' were here at uh Quorum giving a talk reputation matters and uh we can bring it on chain with EAS attestations and so the solution I want to talk about is something that is currently working for the optimism project and so optimism um starting with their last round of retr funding introduced the optimism project ID and it's um attestation in a particular schema uh that um you know you sign up for your project and then

you get attested to that you have a a unique project ID and then when you submit to kind of anything in the optimism ecosystem uh you're using your project ID and then so any sort of accolades or reputation you gain can go back to that project ID and so I recomend you check out the schemas there's a a project ID schema which basically gives you an ID there's a project metadata schema that can be updated because your project metadata changes your GitHub account may change your Twitter account may change um and then there is a project Omer or like a people attestation and so at the end of the day projects are people and who are those people optimism chose to use your forecaster ID which is reasonably Cil uh unique has great

recoverability uh if if you lose your keys easy to recover just a very consumer friendly way to do it just through their experiences in the past of um someone applies for a project they win they need to rotate out their keys they then need to contact optimism and let them know they rotate out their keys where we can just key on your forecast or ID you're free to rotate and Associate whatever wallets you want um I'll just say the main challenge here is um every chain and project and protocol wants to have their own own project registry I'm talking about trying to build a universal registry uh based on attestations I don't really care what chain you're on uh I just wanted to match the schema so that when

we pull them into our grant software we can see um all of the reputation you have gained through this process so I think it's that I think it's a there's a challenge in who you whose attestations do you trust uh first and foremost who issued the project attestation have we make sure that is real um and then who has utation events that are valuable um that's like another thing to that's a challenge here and so and ultimately I think it's just all of us coming together and trying to think um what is a project what should that schema be um how do we trust each other in issuing those schemas and make sure the system is not gained and so it's just kind of my proposal here is that we adopt a universal schema for project

attestations that we can then add reputation events to so that in a fully onchain way we can start to uh know you are who you say you are you've accomplished what you said you have and especially on behalf of Grants councils as we them evaluating your proposals we know a lot more about your project have a lot more trust that this is the official project that you have done what you said you done and have a confence level in issuing those grants so thank you um so it it's it's great for for people who already have a reputation in the

ecosystem to have attestation for their work how would someone who just start off who has these Grand ideas be able to even start sure um there are many kind of smaller grant opportunities and so you know there's a big difference I'm asking for five eth to see idea than it is for asking for 500 eth for a grand idea and so obviously you start slow and you build reputation much like in real life or you just give a job you have to do some things to to gain reputation another great one is retroactive funding programs um I think that's why optimism can leverage this pretty pretty well because you've already done the work and

now you're applying to be retroactively funded and um and so I want to make sure that I am funding the person who you know they put the application I want to be sure they are the person who did the work uh you know I have some concerns around people stealing other people's work especially in the Retro context but retroactive funding is another good way to build reputation winning hackathons you know there just like lots of little steps you can do to build your reputation yeah so the the so grants programs at large uh collect here's one

the other interesting thing every grant program collects the same information and if you're a grant applicant you wind up writing this thing five times over and over again so there is some notion of like you know a common project profile uh they tend to include Twitter LinkedIn GitHub more recently warp cast uh on the optimism project side you know their mea format includes uh X LinkedIn GitHub warcast your website uh some some common information a telegram usually because then the way this actually happens is the grant comes in you love it you want to approve it you then telegram message the people and make sure it's really them right and you have to like kind of prove otherwise um one interesting thing would be to have you ow off into things

and so I know you are the Twitter account that you say you are um but in a lot of cases it's an open text box and might need to go figure out is that really you and it just adds a lot of overhead to what should be a pretty seamless process um so I I've actually want to do a little like plugging because um my startup aspect uh I think uh I'm I'm on one of the first like use cases of EAS because I've been talking to the team since I think over a year ago and I'm actually building a developer reputation project that Aggregates all their work previous work not on chain but on their GitHub LinkedIn all those social medias so I would say yeah we definitely need

this kind of tool and of course aspecto is All Pro for developers to grow in this space yeah cool I've been watching you guys um related to this question so aspect is a tool that is aggregating things for you um my question is more if you're trying to develop this uh this project profile does the project itself like have to aggregate the information or are you expecting tools to be built the okay so developer aggregation but what about like the onchain activity of the members of the project or the project itself how do how is that aggregated yeah so the there's a little bit of a paino now where you often have to like um well your project profile should have your smart contracts uh that's easy to say some D5 platforms will have like a 100 contracts across 10

chains you know and they have to cut and paste and fill that out a lot but um I think you want that information in there your smart contracts you want each grant program on their own can Define what metrics matter to them on chain metrics and so I think there's external software um that reads the contracts does the metrics Det of value um what about offchain contributions to the ecosystem um there's a lot of that which is important yeah I think um we need to figure out reward attestations for offchain and then determine how we can trust them and so I just say two optimism retro rounds ago a lot of Education projects um applied education projects are super important I think

everyone I think the optimism Foundation thinks we should reward education projects but if I throw them a vent how do you know if 500 people show up or 10 people show up you know and there's lots like well use a PO app or issue mfts I think it's just like an unsolved problem but I do think offline events are really important I do think um in my last 15 seconds we can start to do web of trust stuff like old 90s pgp stuff where it's like well if Chris trusts aze and aze trusts you then I trust you you know I trust a one degree hop uh so I think it's time to bring that stuff back too thanks thank you thank you we're going to do one more halfway through U then we're going to do a quick 1520 break we're about seven minutes

behind uh Wales actually you were called while you were out of the room do you mind going now can bring you up you were called while you were out of the room so retroactively we're gonna we're going to throw you in before the break yeah thank you okay hello all right so um I'm Wales and I'm actually here to represent the university blockchain ecosystem so my proposal is pretty lengthy so I probably won't go exactly as what I wrote In The Proposal but the key thing that I want to emphasize here is that instead of what's written on the proposal I'm

actually speaking more for my heart because I've been involved in the University blockchain ecosystem for the last uh two or three years or so and previously um I used to be a blockchain Club president at my local University Club but ever since then I've transitioned into being the co-founder of college Dow which is a blockchain club Collective of around a 100 blockchain clubs across the world at the moment so there is a wide variety of blockchain clubs right now that exist you know and a lot of them are I guess concentrated within the North American region but increasingly so ever since I've started getting into communication with bu clubs within Asia within Europe Middle East Africa as well as the Latin America I've noticed that the same

problems with a lot of the student clubs actually face actually um surface everywhere and that is the fragmentation of the entire ecosystem between the University Administration themselves the student clubs and also the protocols that they're working with so one of the key things that we realize while doing College St as a collective is that the general feedback that we've gotten from the clubs is there's a lot of Disconnect between um protocols under understanding what the clubs actually want and what the clubs actually are doing cuz it's actually a little bit of a disconnect CU um you know if you're a protocol looking to engage with a club it's a little bit hard to figure out what you really want to do with it other than just maybe doing a certain kind of event because

the demographic within the different universities as you know you know can change whether you're interacting with Oxford whether you're interacting with upen whether you're interacting with Asia Pacific University in Malaysia or whether you're interacting with istan techn techological University in Turkey so given the sheer diversity of blockchain clubs um aside from doing events and whatnot what we've realized is that um protocols don't actually seem to realize that there's a lot of opportunity in the student ecosystem space Not only just to hold events but also to tap into the university and uh student demographic to work on things like um let's say documentation work you know technical documentation you know having students involved in it is a very

easy way to get the student Community involved uh a way for you to be aligned within the ecosystem as a community contribution effort but also not only that engaging with the student uh demographic itself you know um there's a lot of individual student Talent out there you know from students that I've met from uh Berkeley students that I met from Oxford students that met from Apu students that I met from uh Tech uh te uh techn Technological University of Munich tomb and also in Singapore and other uh demographics across the world um we realized that there's a lot more to do with the student ecosystem rather than just you know being that afterthought for events because most of the interest is on tapping to the

general developer Community because of course you want to get the highest Roi you want to get the highest tangible benefit for reaching out to the communities that's actually going to build in your protocol but what we realize is that you know if you take a step back from that if we want to bring on the I would say this you know the next billion users in the web 3 you know a lot of them are budding students they are trying to get into the blockchain space but they don't really know where to start and aside from hosting events to get to understand the ecosystem a lot of them are looking for jobs a lot of them are looking to boost their resumés whether they are participating in hackathons whether they're participating in research or development projects with a protocol that they're working with and the protocols that they're working with

can range from anywhere from foundations to blockchain ecosystems to even decentralize applications that might be useful just to let them get a better gist of what's going on in the ecosystem so kind of the primary a primary aim for College St is essentially acting as a central coordination Hub because there's so much disconnect and there's so much fragmentation that we realize that acting as a collective makes it a lot easier for protocols to understand what's going on in the University ecosystem at large for the clubs to understand the blockchain industry at large and also for the unit University Administration to not kind of look at the University blockchain clubs as one of the clubs within their their hundreds of different interest clubs across their student campus but really see that there

is a whole Myriad of um activities and sectors within the blockchain industry which almost acts as a microcosm of like the entire web to space uh on its own but applied into a decentralized uh distributed kind of coordination manner like there's such a big world to unlock within the blockchain ecosystem that the University Administration might not really realize exists so acting as a coration layer working between the University Administration working between the bu clubs and protocols is kind of the biggest thing that I want to solve and I guess to tap into the more direct call to action um part of the things that we really want to do is that instead of having such a highest such a high concentration within the North

American reason North American region we want to be able to expand our influence in Latin America we want to expand our influence into Europe into Africa into um southeast Asia because there are a lot of um universities out there that don't have a dedicated blockchain club and a lot of them you know might go completely under the radar because maybe their University might not support having a club but there are students out there that are very cracked and they're they're very involved in the ecosystem that um they're more or less just uh contributing as individual Compu Builders instead so I guess that's mainly what I'm uh what I'm looking to you know let you guys be aware of given that this is the ethereum Quorum and I'm

here to represent the university blockchain ecosystem here and maybe alongside that we have a lot of clubs in our University ecosystem that have very deep Research into certain aspects of the blockchain space you know there are notable clubs like University of Pennsylvania like Franklin that does an amazing amount of work in research and also Community delegations amongst different universities as well as um uh univ University of Santa Barbara UCLA um even Michigan you know there are millions of token delegations being delegated to these student clubs and part of the I guess initial push was a6z doing the token delegation program but now um having a more I guess diverse representation within your ecosystem and

tapping into into student clubs is something that I like to push forward on so to kind of reiterate on my call to action one of it is to be able to work with protocols work with ecosystem work with foundations to get more representation in underserved regions outside of the North American region but also being able to work directly protocols and Foundations and deps and whatever products your guys are working on so that the student clubs within our current uh Collective can engage with you guys work on something meaningful and for them it is something that they can put on their resume it's something that they can transition into a full-time role in the future or something that they can spin off into their own ideas as a startup founder but not only that um there's a very big

untapped space within the university ecosystem that I'd like to be able to just open up discussions on so that is my proposal thank you uh quick comment so from from iite I'm myself University lecturer and teaching specifically blockchain development and so that's one thing that perhaps like later we can connect together um the other thing I think there's like some kind of like perhaps fragment effort as you mentioned uh in Taiwan right now there's sh so actually a student Collective blockchain group actually blockchain Club Collective and I think I'm not sure if you guys have

talked yet but like if not then we should connect and then you know can make that group happen yeah absolutely if anything um I do realize that there's kind of layers to it you know the student clubs sometimes they don't have enough representation or don't enough I guess public leverage in terms of the University name to be able to make a name for themselves so that they kind of organize themselves into a collective like I know of a um I guess a club collective in India called cow they've recently kind of disbanded because uh within their core team they had different interests and different priorities you know some of them were interested in Ai and whatnot but alongside that you know even within the can Canadian ecosystem Waterloo blockchain is actually a collective of clubs within that within the Canada region and it's not just watero but um

lorier and a bunch of other universities within Canada actually come together within the same region to I guess use waterloo's name as a rep representation of their blockchain Club Collective to actually do a lot of things in the ecosystem so yeah absolutely love to Able connect and actually learn more about the Taiwan ecosystem I've actually had a few um um I guess interactions with different clubs and communities there but yeah absolutely really really stoked to be able to work together um I have uh something I could share uh from the Malaysia side which is that we actually have a an EOS system where e k for example would create a fund that uh sponsor students to go overseas for hacton and if they win part

of that would go back to the Community Fund and this is now replicated by our friends in Taiwan and Korea and um and actually the students from that from the Apu blockchain Club are self-organizing a hackaton and a boot camp uh mid August so and I was literally texting our friends from Korea that hey are you guys going to send people to Malaysia so let's keep that uh circulation going yeah absolutely apus is um and Udi who's part of core team is actually really really close to us and he's part of um you know a lot of things that we're working on but he's an absolute Beast yeah I absolutely love that there's a lot of community representation in different regions but would love to be able to expand that further and be able to work with more protocols and collectives in the future [Applause]

yeah so we're gonna break until 12:50 um thank you guys it's been two hours we got two more hours to go 12 oh sorry 150 yeah for

e e e thank you guys thank you thank you

Martin n are you ready yes sir I am all right let's stage is yours uh yeah so my proposal is actually more on promoting web free knowledge to non web free people in more this direction in general um and so the problem that uh you know as Taiwanese Community are experiencing I and I believe this is also perhaps a worldwide uh um across the world world and all Community is probably experiencing this is that um in the legal structure like the Bitcoin Community start to get into the legal framework Etc in in in Taiwan um and there's other communities that

are very actively trying to recruit uh non uh web free people um and sometimes not necessarily conveying the value that uh at least I believe that is natively web free uh that is you know like the cyppher punk more on the cyppher punk kind of um Spirit uh privacy respected Etc all these kind of things and so um that's that's kind of like where where we're looking at it and to address this problem uh at least from the Tes Community we have done like a lot of different ways so you see um that there is different initiatives under this um

myself uh so I teach courses to uh students in University so that is one way that we're reaching to non web free but already web free cous people and here this is still more on the professional side to like developers right to CS people but there there should also be encouraged uh in you know the less technical side of things um then we also host like monthly sessions of knowledge sharing we support local student hackathon that initiates basically we two students and just like in general just curious but never had opportunity to really get in touch with us we create a lot of those touch points

uh the other thing that we're also trying to do there's other sort of conferences that we want to get into uh that is not ethereum centered that is not blockchain centered it's more traditionally centered and I think that is one interesting way to get into it so we uh in Taiwan we have this costop which is open source Community they talk everything about open source and you know one of the things in blockchain is also everything or mostly everything is open source so that is the great angle that we kind of cut in and we got um like a whole session not just a talk but a whole section that is organized by kind of like the Taiwan blockchain

community in general uh I didn't do that one but like my friends are doing it so these are kind of like the sort of like I think that's quite effective and good way to attract uh web to to web free um however the other other things that we're seeing and still trying to explore because obviously what I mentioned are still more on the technical side and what we're lacking as I mentioned in the kind of like the problem here here is that you have legal people who are uh you know Consulting other communities um and they

may sway it in interesting let's say interesting values right with their interest and I believe like in we have to like as cyer punks as much as we don't like um you know we we don't necessarily like to get in touch with like aot like the centralized but sometimes we do need to do that um so um I would propose like getting more into this side which is how do we talk to I don't know accountants how do we talk to lawyers Etc like all these like different essential roles that we don't normally talk to right not just people

like users not just like the current users not just the future users but also all these like legal Frameworks around that actually also exist in the current world and sort of like morph the future in our way in in the way that it respects more privacy in the way that it respects more like these human rights uh basic human rights the freedom of transactions Etc um I think that then we can kind of like create a much much U better and interesting world as well and not just um you know commercial uh centered um there a bunch of things that

I I think on the broader sense is much more challenging which is how do I talk to a lawyer and what actually makes sense to them uh how how do I talk to accountant and what actually is interesting to them right um and there's sort of like uh there was there was the um proposal that was talking about the creators um creators economy should they also be I don't know lawyers economy or something that sort of incentivized fund uh funds these kind of activities that have the legal people or accountants Etc kind of go got into this get into this space and have very you

know have of uh Cipher Punk pilled in that sense um so yeah that's um that's kind of like what we're dealing and you know this is the uh challenges that we're uh foreseeing but in general like Taiwan Community has been trying to expand so what we do what we do like aside from one big Main Event uh we try all these different um different initiation especially on the focus on getting web to people especially on the focus on getting people outside of of kind of like the technical side um one other thing that we have

observed is that even within people are in say crypto industry they don't necessarily follow all the latest trends and so like almost that basic knowledge uh distribution is also very important so yeah that's uh everything I have thank you uh yeah thank you martinet um so I'm curious um from you obviously you worked at a very technical place and then you teach at University and then you

mentioned this kind of talking to the normies so have you had any experience um just maybe even one person who has gone through this journey from normies to crypto curious to like eventually working in the industry like do you think in today's world like that's even possible for people to go through this type of Journey uh for me from the technical people I see a very clear path and I have uh so I actually started teaching like let's say almost four years ago and in private and then later like now start to teach in University and so the earlier days I have already students they are already working in the industry uh they one is in Harvest d uh the other

is in like a grante in ether Foundation Etc and the other is like starting another protocol so I do see there's a very clear path on technical people to how to do this on the non-technical people that's where I lack uh kind of like visibility but but I do believe same principle applies and I the other thing that I do is that I basically send them to these open source uh repositories and learn kind of like grants Etc and I point them out like hey these are interesting projects to work on um and go there do some contribution don't think about the money just like

learn and people will appreciate that and we're what I'm trying to do is also attracting the right people that has the right mindset who doesn't really care of the money itself money is important but it that should not be the most important value of human being right and so if if they sort of like accept this and we we just need to point them into the right direction which is the right projects to work on and then it initiates them awesome thank you so much [Applause]

all right number 18 is David me yeah David Casey here director of funding the commons we are a public goods funding event series incorporating conferences residencies and hackathons and more recently uh public goods funding pilots and experiments so we are addressing a dual problem um one in the kind of mainstream World very broad uh aspect and one uh particular to the blockchain

industry uh inefficiencies in public goods funding is generally a problem that affects all humans on Earth um because we depend in large part on nation states to fund our public goods um and I Define public goods funding infrastructure as uh allocation distribution technology uh governance identity Cil resistance impact evaluation impact certification um so yeah defining the broad context uh of public goods funding on this planet for humans and and other forms of life and then in the crypto industry uh we are looking for mainstream use

for adoption of blockchain technology that are unequivocally socially beneficial and we believe uh that public goods funding infrastructure could become a killer use case for mainstream adoption of blockchain Technology by not only governments but also International institutions such as uh this one here the United Nations um International NGS such as the Red Cross save the children uh Municipal governments so we just had the Govern of Tokyo come speak at our conference next door a couple days ago um as well as the head of uh web 3 and AI policy in Japan was a um really really bullish on on blockchain just

awesome um so yeah that's one of the things we also do is Bridge uh the blockchain industry to the public sector um so the proposal is to create something which we've just launched called The Commons fund the intention of the commons fund is to fund the research development and deployment of new public goods funding infrastructure mechanisms um and implementation of pilots in uh not only funding open source software developers which we believe is essential um but also real world pilots in in all sorts of conditions that will let us test this technology um in the

wild uh at the heart of our efforts is in fact the open source Builder community so we have series of events to support the Builder Community including uh developer residencies public goods hackathons and something we also recently launched called the Builder basic income fund and we believe it's essential for Builders to have opportunities um to work on open- Source public goods without um needing to get venture capital and just having other opportunities for funding uh let's see yeah the main concept here is developing the public HS funding infrastructure um and then dog fooding it in other words testing it on the open source developer Community

First to fund more developers of Open Source publics funding infrastructure and then starting to uh introduce this infrastructure more and more in the context of the real world as well as the web 2 open source Community uh the potential impact of The Proposal includes uh improving the effectiveness of public goods funding processes more broadly the development and Adoption of blockchain-based public goods funding infrastructure and positive social outcomes uh the impact can be measured through the amount of funding that flows through these blockchain-based public good funding mechanisms um and the effectiveness of funding uh using these new mechanisms

versus using traditional mechanisms uh yeah we believe that blockchain has inherent properties uh that lend themselves to improving public goods funding processes more broadly I don't need to go too deeply into that but accountability transparency distributed governance uh citizen participation Etc um let's see so yeah challenges um regulatory acceptance as many of you are familiar with um technological integration with existing systems uh the ux UI of blockchain and web 3 in 2024 um the developer user Bridge which

we spoke about earlier uh lack of awareness of web 3 Solutions amongst our Target stakeholders um and then talent development and retention uh in public goods funding when there's so much opportunities for developers uh to make money in this industry pursuing other means uh yeah so public goods funding largely relies on grants sponsorships web 3 foundations like the ethereum foundation and crowdfunding tools like uh quadratic funding um we are engaging with uh all sorts of stakeholders Regulators institutional philanthropists and others who hold the keys to uh large public

goods funding distributions uh I mentioned our conference which you just completed a couple days ago um and we're work working closely with traditional funders to understand um the pain points of traditional funding and how uh blockchain can address those pain points um we also are giving visibility to the public goods funding conversation um through a series of viral media Productions so you'll um be seeing that shortly we had uh one video with the tour project um get distributed pretty widely recently around uh their funding systems and uh yeah I think that's about it thank

[Applause] you what sector um of of the public goods infrastructure are you seeing with the most adoption right now uh most adoption where exactly yeah that's the question so uh where in terms of the people and also as in the general public and also the web3 native uh uses yeah so amongst let's say uh open source soft developers gitcoin Community Etc um I think there's a pretty good degree of adoption and fluency um we're starting to see and uh support Pilots with municipalities so one of um the builders

in uh residency we ran in Berlin last year um got a grant uh recognition from ethereum Foundation as a next billion fellow to run a pilot in uh Croatia um for quadratic funding for the municipality that he lives in so um though it's very early we're excited about the potential for um like municipal government adoption of of blockchainbased public goods funding infrastructure in terms of adoption outside of the web 3 Community though um still very early uh actually Taiwan we had uh Audrey Tang from uh former digital affairs minister of Taiwan um speak a couple days ago about um implementing quadratic funding

experiments um on a national level in Taiwan so I think that's the first place in the world we're really seeing it like Bridge beyond the the web 3 Industry um on the mun M Municipal level you seem to get this adoption and maybe with smaller Innovation departments and larger companies for example like what is it from your experience about these smaller enclaves either politically through M municipes or just like small Departments of larger organizations why do these people adopt public goes like what is what is the the thread that connects all of these yeah I think it's different for each constituency um on a municipal level there's plenty of Mayors around the world that are interested in experimenting um with new funding models

for um both just standing out their own reputation and Legacy as well as um looking for other sources of funding when um you know national funding is drying up for example so like in Ukraine um there's a good bit of interest in these kinds of experimental funding systems at a at a local level do you see playing to to be cynical playing to the ego or the political ego of some of these people as like obviously it works do you see it as problematic sometimes um the my Approach is really looking at what are the the real pain points um and how can can blockchain actually solve them uh it's really political though um so in in some

jurisdictions like it's not a conversation and then in other jurisdictions especially smaller ones um government officials are very open-minded yeah I like to follow up with a comment so here in Taiwan as you as you mentioned Audrey Tong and uh you know they funding the common folks in Taiwan and leading that front but there is an interesting challenge that I also see in this which is as you guys are mostly talking about the public goods stuff which is totally awesome um then there's the gap of like let's say other ecosystem with the governments as well that that is another Gap that I'm seeing

um kind of like I I'm starting to like get more into uh the like the funding conference and you know make friends with like just various folks but I think in general it's actually a bit different community and that also sort of like fragments within and I like to kind of like make that you know everyone friends again like that right awesome awesome yeah yes yes thank you so much up next is har hello all right hello everyone um my

name is harth Daniel but people call me Danny I represent a community in Malaysia called etherum kalal lumur um we've been around since 2018 and we've done 170 meetups case studies and workshops we're a very chill Community consisting mostly of developers um and it started by a group of people from ether scan coin Geo and some other developers so a little background as well is I am uh my background is I'm an entrepreneur I've had fish farms and a lot of weird things but yeah today I'm here to talk about growing an ethereum ecosystem and one of the problems I kind

of want to address with okay I'm not going to be very boring with this I'm going to like I want you guys to imagine a Sandbox right and all the sand is kind of ethereum like what you can create with ethereum right now in Malaysia there's a lot of developers so it's just you know kids playing in the in sand like building things things and all that but what we're lacking is people bringing the shovels buckets we're also lacking um we also realize that the walls of the sandbox is quite High the government don't really know what to do with it they just know to contain it and it can get real messy so one of the issues that Malaysia has right now is that we have a lot of developers but we don't really have a lot of uh entrepreneurs all this culture of

startups funding as well and um for a good reason as an entrepreneur I understand that it's better to build a business in a neighboring countries like Singapore uh where an established business would be much preferable uh on a global scale so what is the kind of solution I'm proposing is that perhaps we can like open up the conversation even broader um within not just Malaysian Community but other communities uh I've noticed that countries like Singapore Hong Kong might have more financial institutions and some other countries uh might also have this better culture of startups um yeah so one way that we're encouraging this is

that for our events we're not just making it very web tree specific this sendbox is for everyone we're bringing in communities from the uiio community we're bringing communities from the um um the traditional communities but we're also bringing about um problem statements whether it's from oil and gas giants as well as small Refugee groups you know what kind of problem statements they might be facing and how we can actually solve that so this is one way that we're actually building out uh real world use cases by really really interacting with uh the broader Community within Malaysia um yeah so I think that's exciting so why this approach uh I would have to

say that this was rather inspired by um a Malaysian company called ether scan uh and they have this very very intimate feedback loop where they actually get interns from from universities around Malaysia and they have this um and this interns will really interact with their own communities like University clubs and such and get proper feedback so that they can actually build a better product and I think that's one way of um how we're going to build that out and yes so I'm going to keep it short and the specific challenges is that yes there's you know we're starting out something new bringing out this culture of startups

encouraging regul to also like listen to us what policies we could advocate for as well as um how we can learn from neighboring countries or other countries like Taiwan with uh how active the ministers are in approaching webtree and yeah that's what I would like to share um but I would also like to share how interesting the projects are in Malaysia for example one of the things that we have is called mymp where I also study politics uh it's really frustrating cuz you don't really know what your parliamentarian is voting for you don't even know if they go to Parliament actually um and we would have to read the handsart every single time to know whether they're really

representing us so there is a kind of lack of representation and someone has built a database for this and my mp thought it was kind of boring so what they have done is really like set up an nftd for every single MP and it's really cute so you can support your MP that way um but also it shows statistics of how well they've done and I think that's one uh really interesting use case so I think for me um my call to action is really like uh to other communities around the world we would should we should open up uh the conversations to um you know whether it's topics on refugees or whether it's topics on uh education awareness I think we can interact better and actually share um whether it's statistics also like our

methodologies yeah uh that's all for me but I Al also like to invite but my co-author if she like to share anything uh Vienna I'll just keep it short um but I uh was really inspired by the plurality conversation at funding the comments um and I wanted to like provide Malaysia almost as a space or a platform for uh the world like I I say that because in Malaysia we have a four concurrent World Civilization at the same time like uh and that is the Western Civilization the Chinese civilization the Indians and also the Islamic um and most mil uh at least speaks three languages like for me

maybe five or six and that's pretty common so but uh what it is is that it's a little microcosm of the world and um and and and interestingly you know there are actually native startups that uh for example grab um managed to B buy out uh Uber in the region and it's actually a Malaysian company so they would often experiment with the interesting demographic that we already have in Malaysia which is very plural and diverse and then from there if it works then it would basically expand in uh southeast Asia the whole of Southeast Asia so um yeah so we just wanted to invite all of you all and uh kind of like create this kind of like plural multi-stakeholder relationship together and we are inviting the digital Ministers of Malaysia and the agencies

who are issuing digital Nomad visas and the digital uh transformation and economic transformation um program of the government but at the same time we're also inviting the web tree and the Grassroots um like NOS uh impact um focus people even conservation ngos like we're even talking about dive con like having like Marine public goods and all this so yep thank you any questions um to VI's point about the plurality of the communities in Malaysia um what about from either

perspective what about web 3 can help you connect and and harness and maybe take advantage of that really interesting differences between the people in in Malaysia yeah so the first thing that I've heard uh this past week is actually things like how for example in Taiwan they're using AI tools but open source AI tools like talk to the city which actually is a friends project um and uh really listening uh to the people like so like using AI tool to do like really broad polling of like T of thousands of people but then like uh being able to visualize that and then having like digital democracy tool like including like it could be voting on blockchain or something but uh uh like the point is that we need to kind of like first

instead of broadcasting message to people it's more like Brad listening like listening to the people and then kind of like uh using technology to augment a kind of like Democratic process and then from there I think like things like da and all is just naturally going to happen like we have just even fun things like webt tree activity group where people are just like you know playing frisbee or something together you know that kind of stuff awesome uh if there's no other questions I also just like to share that we have a conference 4 to 6 October um so if you like to meet some of the local conservative agencies our digital Minister some of the larger groups

Refugee groups and all the interesting projects that we might have definitely come say hello and thank you so much thank you I just add one thing we do have a long-term Hacker House for e k and you guys are welcome there too right over the line number 11 cheeky gorilla all right hello can you guys

hear me let's do this um all right so yeah I am I am cheeky gorilla um and I'm here to talk about funding ethereum's core protocol stewardship because because um we have a problem uh the problem is that the financial incentives associated with working on the core protocol they're very low right I'm sure you're not surprised to hear that there's obviously a lot of money in the crypto ecosystem but there is not a lot of money in ethereum's core protocol development uh and so essentially we have this weird situation which is quite common in open source development where we have a small number of relatively underpaid Corp protocol contributors who

are responsible for infrastructure that is securing Trill trillions not not trillions yet billions in value um and that's a really bad situation to be in where basically it is not economically rational to work on ethereum's core protocol itself um and as I'm sure you're not at all surprised to hear as well um because of the unbelievable amount of specialized knowledge that ethereum's core devs have um they can very easily command low seven figure salaries almost anywhere in the ecosystem um and so how can you blame them when every once in a while a cordev takes up such an offer um and the reason why this is a problem is because ethereum is not done in fact it is very far from being done um perhaps some of

you are familiar with ethereum ethereum's core protocol development road map um there are a large amount of really really exciting changes that are still planned to make it more secure more decentralized more scalable um but of course the only way that that road map will be executed is if we can retain the core devs right um and so this really raises an existential cor question for ethereum which is how can we make ethereum's core protocol development economically rational on a risk adjusted basis and the good thing about ethereum is that there are tons of public goods funding mechanisms out there and so the obvious question is well why can't we just rely on some of those um and the answer is that they are great yes but

none of them are optimized for Distributing funding to ethereum's core protocol contributors that is a very unique n to crack that those public goods funding mechanisms simply were not optimized for right we also cannot rely on kind individuals because quite frankly we don't know uh if these kind of individuals will be around forever we also don't know if they will be corrupted right so to that extent we shouldn't rely on the EF for example as the main fun for this kind of work we also should not rely on a carving out a portion of ethereum's issuance or the burn to fund this kind of work and this is the thing that usually uh people think like right away like oh we can

solve this problem by just redirecting a portion of the burn towards ethereum's core protocol development um and while that may sound appealing and there have certainly been some proposals that do carve out a portion of ethereum's issuance to fund this kind of work and other blockchains like polka dot they actually do this ethereum will never do this I can say that today confidently uh ethereum will never do that because it is not credibly neutral right ethereum is about giving power back to the people it is not about forcing a paycheck for cordev into every single block it is also a huge slippery slope if we suddenly decide that oh we can pay for certain salaries via block issuance but not others right um so basically big can of worms no clear way to fund this uh

ethereum's core protocol development um and that's why the protocol Guild was created right what is the protocol Guild um it is a collective funding mechanism for ethereum's L1 R&D maintainers um which is another way to say core devs um and protocol Guild was really optimized for this notion of okay if you can fund raise from ethereum's Community if you can get projects that build on ethereum to donate um some of their tokens towards this mechanism then you can distribute those tokens in a way that remains relatively accurate over time in a way that retains ethereum's credible neutrality um and in a way that's uh that's sustainable right but I jumped

ahead a little bit so let's talk a little bit about what this funding mechanism entails um the first part of this funding mechanism is a a membership registry right and you're probably not surprised to hear this membership registry is uh basically a list of ethereum's cevs today that's 177 individuals uh these are all individuals who have been working on either maintaining or upgrading the core protocol for at least six months so basically protocol Guild has um surfaced the entire contributor set of ethereum's core protocol developers and the reason why we've done that is because we can then having surfaced this list we can build a funding mechanism around this list um and this funding mechanism um basically has like three attributes that

are worth covering very quickly um is that number one we've provided a single ethereum address that anyone can use to donate directly to everyone in this list so we've made it incredibly easy to figure out how to help fund this work um in a way that goes to all of ethereum's core protocol contributors um all donations are vested over four years because of course we want to create long-term incentives um for these contributors to to stick around and do the wonderful work that they're doing uh and we distribute the funding to them in kind meaning uh all tokens are uh vested and distributed uh in that actual token it's never converted to eth or anything else um because it's really important that these cor de are able to uh access the financial upside of the value that's being created in the ecosystem via these

tokens while staying focused on their core protocol work so that's the uh that's the membership registry we've covered the financial uh the funding mechanism one important thing to cover like kind of the third part of the protocol Guild is the protocol Guild pledge because it truly does not matter if we have this this list of cevs and this funding mechanism if no one's actually putting funds into this mechanism right like how do we get the fun ERS um and this is exactly what the protocol Guild pledge tries to address it basically says okay who are the individuals who have the most to lose by not being able to retain ethereum's core protocol contributors uh and we believe it is the projects who are building on ethereum themselves right and so if you are building on ethereum then quite

frankly you have a dependency on the core protocol development right could be for data availability it could be for uptime whatever else by donating to the protocol Guild you are helping to rebalance the those incentives to ensure that these talented core protocol contributors continue to stick around to do the job to uh maintain and upgrade the protocol that you're depending on um so the protocol Guild is basically a pledge that project can take um to donate a portion of their token Supply towards ethereum's core protocol development via the protocol Guild mechanism and um there's a bunch of different ethereum based projects in this room um some of them have already um have already donated to the protocol Guild thank you to that some of them I can confident reveal um will'll maybe

take the protocol Guild pledge in the future but I'm not going to say more than that but of course this is not something that like someone like me chica gorilla can like um I I cannot go to every single project in the ecosystem and say hey please take the protocol Guild pledge uh that's not scalable that's not sustainable um so what we really need to do is establish the social Norm that projects building on ethereum take the protocol Guild pledge um because that's really the only way that we can ensure that we can get enough to make sure that ethereum's core protocol development is economically rational on a risk adjusted basis so I think I'll end it there if you are interested in more uh I'm presenting tomorrow around six o'clock yes tomorrow around six o'clock

at some point so um you can basically see the the the longer version of this um but happy to hear comments now thank you very [Applause] much wants to debate me as to issu first of all congratulations I think that's amazing um do you think that having a small portion even of the eth burning mechanism go to the like incentivizing the researchers that's part of a pool as well from the other l1's l2s building on top of eth does that make sense so you're saying not all of it but some of it yeah we would really

goad just a like going deeper in five years or 10 years maybe most of the coins that are today live won't be so maybe there's like an unrealized p&l of millions of dollars and 5 years in that's like a couple thousand e might still be around or will be around more so if the a research team is there that's where that's where my question comes from yeah I guess we're we're kind of committed to doing this the hardest way possible but that is is also the most credibly neutral way possible Right like the second that you make it part of East issuance or the burn um that's a tax right and we are not mandating that anyone do this right

people should do be doing this uh because it's economically rational for themselves to do so and we hope that argument is strong enough and certainly ethereum's ecosystem Embraces public goods funding to the extent to which we think it is possible to make that a social Norm thank you thank you is thank you so much up next Danilo hello hello I'm today I will talk about um not much but some of the work that

we've been doing in Brazil and Latin America even though I don't look like Brazilian a lot of people tell me that and it feels weird to be sitting in front of South America in Japan um but in any case um I think similar to Brazil in Latin America there's some countries that are already thriving in the web space such as Argentina they and mostly because because the the country already suffered uh with the pain that web 3 is solving with high inflation and uh and the government basically um taking a lot of the money from the people so Argentina is great uh but still countries like

Brazil who has a lot of potential um they have a lot of Deens a lot of gamblers um there's a lot a lot of traders in Brazil but the dev Community is surprisingly um behind behind the other Dev communities such as in Asia even in in Malaysia or or like Europe or or us and I started diving in web Tre space around two three years ago and I've been since I started I've been mostly traveling a lot so I haven't spent much time in Brazil like I would stay one month per year in Brazil and but now I had the opportunity to stay there and I

started to talk to more people after talking to so many incredible people all around the world and what I really realiz is that even in like leaders of um university blockchain communities they wouldn't know what are Zer knowledge proofs and they would still be like three or three years behind in in terms of um education and and I got quite surprise for it so what I decided to do is that okay since uh we have I have some time here uh let's gather some people and and and try to start build this more technical aspect uh in Brazil and thinking about that um my my Approach was okay from I've been to many hacker houses man

hackathons um popup cities and from all that what I took that was one of the most important aspect when building a new community was what I like to call heart-to-heart transactions I don't know exactly what is this but I like I have this feeling that uh and we I'll try to um summarize here um what it is and then maybe we can try to describe it and and and go from there so um in events we meet a lot of people um but I realized that my great friends and people who I trust or and my an are are not people who I have met during a panel or during a talk but those who I

had a lunch with or I was in zalu for example I was in the SAA together and randomly met him and then was start talking about things from live to um some people who recommended me some really good anime those are my friends for life um so so when when um and I when I started to look back and what made me really like this space and try to build stuff I realized that are these little moments uh that really bonded me with a lot of people and to have these little moments you need time like first of all you need to be in a space with a little bit less people because if there

are 10,000 people it's hard to bond um and you need time so my my initial proposal was okay let's try to make something that um for maximum 25 people and for at least two weeks and there are two rules uh we'll be hacking from 9 to 6 and then they will have free time and all the meals have to be in the same table so we had like two big tables and everyone had to sit together and uh there was actually a third um which I'm I proposed and they accept it which all the meals are vegetarian um but it was a fun experiment in but I we got the really good vegetarian uh vegetarian um

chfs and what I realized in that moment is that from so 15 developers came from this 15 eight were first like they knew about blockchain but they didn't know about uh they they have never hacked solidity or or and for zero knowledge proofs nothing at all so what we did is that we had five days of um technical classes um and five days of hacking and my goal there was to okay to make Brazil like get up to date we first have to start bringing the Brazilians outside Brazil they have to go outside they have to go to

Brussels they have to go to dcon and meet because like if I come and keep translating um like I learned and I come and translate to them like their Bott neck is me and it's a it's a very low low bottleneck um I want them to go out so my goal from there is like okay from the 15 people who are here um I want to take at least 10 to Brussels it was two months before Brussels I don't know how um we figure out out we want to take at least 10 people to Brussels and our goal for Devon now is to take at least 25 and so we hacked we participa in online hackathons um during 10 days we had a lot of funny moments you you you start

to notice that in the fourth or five days these hardto heart transactions start to happen when you are not sharing about things that worry you but you're sharing about things that really light light your heart and when this thing that you're excited about also excites the other I think that's when you had a successful heart-to- heart transaction um so we've been building and then we were in Brussels together also in Brussels we had one house with one bed and a lot of sofas for six people uh but they were like another thing that bonds is like going through hard times are struggling together is

also very good for for bonding so um and after Brussels finished I realized oh now we have like a really really strong Community something that started um with me and two more friends now like even though I'm here in Japan they are start they are organizing things by themselves so today we have a community I would say 25 um but I expect that in two years we will have at least five like strong startups coming from Brazil I I I don't want to like oh I'm going to be going to do like 1 million Brazilians I think if we have five strong startups um then that's the Kickstart of of of a country so in ARA they had um open zapping

Lambda class in Malaysia it scan I think when you have one strong startup one strong leader in that region that's when things start to um really go we can see that in sport Sports a lot usually when there is a great player uh from that specific sport that sport starts to thrive in in in that country so um yeah I'm just sharing like this little win I would say which wasn't something that oh I was expecting to have um thousand people we'll probably keep iterating this maybe as we scale it will not be possible to do such a because it is a bit exclusive in our case it wasn't whoever applied got in because like there was no awareness

about it um but I think the main thing that we want to focus on is how can we make um the amount of heart-to-heart transactions increase uh and at the same time allow them to be able to connect with great leaders from uh outside Brazil then I think uh maybe this can bring the new futures um of leaders in Brazil [Applause] okay um the first time I encountered um the Brazilian ecosystem was through

researchers from uh fgv the university yes yes um do you think that um there could be growth um support from from the University ecosystem to or or is that to Elite so this um this community that I mentioned a blockchain community that I mentioned uh he's one of from one of the biggest Tech um universities and they are not so interested in in in web Tre there's like very very little um support to web even though the government does support um still there's for developing is is is not I I haven't seen much

support uh I want to comment you know great initiative to start a really close like Community I've seen like many kind of like success cases actually in different kind of like very small scale and people get really close and Trust I feel like if that is one thing and then people start to feel the power of that and becomes a movement it actually brings a lot of like very trusting like Community together so awesome thank you thank you so much AR R try you up next hello um very good afternoon to

everyone my name is aritra um um trying my best to represent the India community at what is a beautiful platform um the the tagline of my um presentation is taking a step back um which I really believe that we need to do as as a community the Indian Community not the amazing um kind of efforts being outlined here um and it really starts with with a story of numbers um we have we're we're a nation of about a 1.8 billion 1.4 billion strong that's not bad for a world that holds 8 billion people um

our economic strata is really divided into three India 1 India 2 India 3 India 1 um is consisting of only 120 million people um who earn roughly $15,000 per person um for the year right um that's a not a lot of money B um it doesn't leave you with space for a lot of disposable income and 90% of people who start getting into crypto have some disposable income most people who have that disposable income lose it dispose of it very soon um and so that becomes a little hard to get people onto the

ecosystem um all income from crypto and virtual game Assets in India is TA taxed at 30% and another 1% um tax deducted at source for any transaction over $125 makes it even harder to get into it right um the second problem that we that that seems to um overarch is a lot of people who have tried mainly artists who have tried to onboard themselves onto the web3 ecosystem maybe had some success with openc but Zora and faras are awards that aren't even known um as anything that artists could use um whereas the rest of the world you know has has shown its affiliation with these these networks and um yeah our Tech

culture is also so more support oriented as opposed to new future oriented this this psychology is something that's a little hard to scale because web3 um allows you to always constantly innovate um we're also we also have some really beautiful Myriad business structures that a lot of new uh smmes new startups are coming out with but none of them would touch the web3 um ecosystem with with a flaming Rod so really how do you how do you try to to um fix that right as I said tier one of Indians little bit of disposable income um consuming a lot of fast growing businesses what does

this mean um food delivery clothes delivery um cabs all of these things these are the kind of businesses that web 3 could permeate into to create some sort of an incentivization field right what really needs to um happen is the users have to actually want to interact with a publicly open system I think that's a philosophical question that we that as an industry we kind of Miss in in in most conversations is that what does it mean to actually um interact as a society as a community in a completely open system because right now all the systems that we engage in are closed closed doors um Instagram closed databases closed data um while the

values that we bring forward as a system are really beautiful I think the psychology shift is maybe a generation away even it's going to take us a lot of time because we grew up with very different values um success in India actually a lot of web three narratives like points um you know incentive farming so on and so forth these are already implemented as web2 um Concepts in a lot of our platforms um I shouldn't take names but we have a we have a credit platform that actually uh pays you in so-called points for paying your credit card bills and those points get you like hair dryers and and like chocolates and stuff so like we're we're

ahead in terms of using that psychology but we're not using the blockchain to do it um as I as I said India is a economy of many really beautiful homegrown um small and medium Enterprises working in fashion working in music Work the music scene in industry is beautiful but none of them even see web3 as a tool that can possibly be used for more amplification of of their own growth so really um there's a two-way um solution that we can begin to approach um one is primarily education and most of the speak I've actually listed down six speakers who had very very unique approaches to um how you can um educate

better um there are two textbooks um David B Wong has written a book real world cryptography um and Martin kman has written the almost viral textbook um designing data intensive applications which is distributed computing distributed computing cryptography um I had to spend two years in the industry studying from a top down approach which is okay zero knowledge okay one level down um this is the math that you use it okay one level down I find Porter who's who's who had a beautiful YouTube live um six week course introducing people to ZK I had to go through lots of Twitter to then find that these are two textbooks that you should actually start

your as as a developer as a you know your your technical expertise with you shouldn't find these two years down the line because then a bottomup approach for something that is still as cryptic as the web3 industry for engineers who are trying to pursue this as a field or as a career this is where you start your mental models from so it would actually be great if um here I think I can take names if organizations like the etherum foundation if uh organizations like the optimism cev colle Collective recommended these two universities and said this is where you start this is where our devs absolutely crack devs in the space some you know I I've spent most of my time just reading a lot of

Open Source Code um but if you're doing this at a university level you should actually start from these textbooks you should start from these places and India every year did I not that yeah 1.5 million engineering graduates come out of India every year everyone's learning all of these really fascinating Concepts and if we want to better educate um the masses about how this is to be done then it has to be a bottomup approach people can't start at the landing page of ethereum.org and then shut it immediately um which is what kind of tends to happen um for the economy uh so to speak I think what has to happen is 150 million people is a lot of people um to as and it really makes India a

perfect playground for different small gamified experiences when it comes to web 3 the it has to change from oh I would I don't want to do this to this might be something interesting that I want to experience um gambling Platforms in in India breaken a lot of money and they are um advertised by our class A celebrities um not to say that that's what should be permeating the Indian ecosystem but I mean fair is fair right uh we are an open ecosystem we are subject to all kinds of experimentation so it it only makes sense that we with what we have in the web3 industry right now we try to package it as small almost

gamified experiences which anybody in this 150 million person population can at least give a shot um I also wrote down something interesting which I think I do think it shouldn't be web three marketing anymore whereas more it's web3 communication you need to communicate many different ideas many different base- level technical Concepts um which will take a lot more time than just packaging up and saying Perpetual trading that's a little hard um I guess to um kind of wrap up um I loved what you had Martinez not here um but I loved what everything that they were doing um I would love to have a longer

conversation with you as well um on the D stuff because I I really do think these are really really fascinating approaches being taken forward and um obviously UI killing it for like two years straight now I'm very grateful for you know this platform and everything um yeah thank you that's [Applause] me you're a wonderful speaker um and a great representative H how does someone take a leadership role in such a large Nation that's a question I kind of ask myself every day um I would be remissed if I didn't say there are already really

good leaders trying um between different um platforms right now one of our biggest uh initiatives is in the forecaster industry because we find that you know it's easier to ship quickly frames really interesting new development tool um you identify a vertical first in like my my my inclination is towards art so I've been having conversations with countless artists as to how to help them if in any way identify a vertical chances are you throw you throw a dart anywhere on the board you're dealing with a market of at least a 5 million people um that could be law that could be um art that could be Transportation um there's actually a one of the most um

one of the largest ride sharing services that we have is based on an open- Source protocol call called beckon it's not decentralized it's just an open source Web Two protocol um it's fascinating that it's not decentralized though CU it's almost obvious to probably everyone in this room that it should be but it isn't it is open it is um open uh like information dissemination between different vendors but it's just HP header stuff which is absolutely crazy so identify a vertical that a kind of business vertical that you're looking for and and just get started that you should be good yeah thank you thank

you um somehow this online tool has cheated us out of number 14 so um Melanie if you want to take the stage yeah go one two one two sorry for that well first of all thank you so much for uh allowing me this opportunity for me this is huge uh I never been in a room with such talented people like you guys thank you so much okay let's start my name is Melanie Ramirez I come from Mexico and um I'm

the chief global strategy officer from KNX Gallery so I'm based between Japan and Mexico so I came here representing two communities actually the commun are really big uh we are artist based all over the world and um I'm here to address one of the main problems that we have uh been facing as not only as an artist also as developers and uh it's the uh basic it's a problem that is really basic the massive adoption like right now people is not ready to understand what blockchain is so we are currently um doing exhibitions around the world uh

bringing uh education to blockchain through ART so this project is called Art chain education and we're using art as a vessel to uh encourage people to understand blockchain and this project is already going on uh is not just on paper we already did a big exhibition in Mexico in chapas this is in the in the jungle in Mexico and um we with a collaboration of the government we had an exhibition and this happened at the international Museum uh in chapas the Muse the chapas the

technia and we uh did the first nftd exhibition there and it's physically there right now so um we the the government uh bring us over 300 Elementary uh and high school students I think my mic is uh can can you give me this mic pleas I need to shut up one two one two thank you thank you okay so um the government bring us 300 Elementary and high school students to the exhibition we were 20 days in chapas uh and we choose chapas because during uh it there was an UNESCO Heritage Festival happening at the same time so

we kind of create some activities for the kids to join us and uh we also invited uh friends that uh had companies related to Ai and Robotics and we did a lot of workshops for the kids and for the communities we had a huge impact with them and the community is involved it's called Uh crypto MX crypto chicks and the global crypto art artist community that we host so uh what we do basically is uh we did this exhibition uh thanks to the help with 40 artists that participated on an open call that we did on Twitter this call um we we the team was biodiversity so uh we created exhibition and we had a very immersive

experience inside the museum we also create a metaverse for the kids and we had an ocul we had some some Oculus on on the on the area and the kids were playing around and they were uh like enjoying a lot the the exhibition and we also like as I mentioned like we we gave nfds um and we explained what blockchain is it was really fun we had a great time so um I think in this uh in this uh first pilot project that we that we started we moved something you know like inside ourselves because we did this without help like just the government let us the space but uh we we reach out

the money to make this happen and I think this is huge because uh we we were there because of we we wanted to do a change and we we wanted to use blockchain to to make this happen and uh I think this is very important because we can create uh two impacts in this Society the first is educational many kids that we talk to they don't have the possibilities of using this technology at home they don't even have computers at home don't even cell phones so when they were playing in the metaverse the the jobs drop literally when they use the headset they were like what is this what is happening I I I didn't know that this like world existed and the people

from the museum they were really happy and they say could you please stay more more days we need this we need that our kids have this kind of Technology but but we couldn't I mean we didn't have the resources we only stayed there for like 20 days and uh we also like start creating ideas on how can we support this kind of communities uh most of some kids that came that they uh they speak Spanish and soil like um it's a a a language that they the community speak and we thought like okay imagine if we can create a like a kids collection that they can handmade and we can sell nfts to support their families because they this is uh families that they are very

with very low resources you know and um well the metrics uh we have over 300 assistants to the museum and we also did an exhibition a parallel exhibition in Japan that we uh have like 150 people coming to our Gallery located in Shibuya and uh we also did another event in in Chapa in chapas it's located in um uh in noar and we had over 300 people coming so this impact was around maybe 1,000 people and um okay regarding the how much time that I have left okay now let's play the video as we are artists so we we bring a video yeah sorry for that

[Music] important for for [Music]

[Music] w [Music] [Music]

I be smoking on them hey hey he he I be real just [Music] like now I walk up on the wrong side of the call she just bring them pieces then you go de see you want to smoke now you're just scared let them come and kill me I don't even care I on the side of the call sheing pieces you go de say you smoke now just scared let and me I

don't [Music] even stupid thank you so much I hope you enjoyed andab kab means unity in Mayan so yeah this is our project thank you thank you thank you thank you there is an exhibition also at Knox in Shibuya now

all right we're down to the final five number 12 ah no number 12 went okay apologies let's keep it going final four yeah number six uh before aim goes just got confirmation Dev italic is here um he will join us shortly uh as far as the Q&A I do want to uh set the Cadence where uh we want to create a good environment and ecosystem for a constructive speech

uh and so we can invite him back to something like this again um and this is why we put so much time into due diligence and reviewing uh proposals with everyone try to be a little bit more Hands-On so if you have a proposal you're presenting here today you're more than welcome to ask questions uh if you did not then uh please try to uh not to is everyone okay with that and I think a is in the building as well and she will make her way up when she is ready all right let's keep going what's up everybody I'm going to talk about something that I think a lot

of of us have been thinking about for some time uh first I'll start with a little bit of my background my name is azim I'm the founder of an L2 that recently raised $20 million I don't think which L2 that is is actually important though I'll go a little back further and I was at gitcoin prior to this any of you who are familiar gitcoin has been Distributing grants to builders in the ethereum ecosystem since 2017 my role was to basically be the head of BD sales and Partnerships for the whole Dow and so I was in charge of raising grants money I was in charge of two separate protocols we had that were for ecosystem development I helped oversee the gitcoin passport did protocol that under my

watch helped get to about a million users has been since growing and then finally also helped gitcoin launch the public goods Network which was their layer to and in that time raised a decillion dollar amount of money that we distributed to grantees across ethereum infrastructure decentralized science uh open source software like a variety of things and so I was in a unique position where I got a chance to speak to builders that were at the earliest stages of their Journeys all the way through the most successful companies like Unis Swap and optimism and year and maker Dow because they were at one point grantees we had done some calculations that of the about $60

million that we had distributed that there had been about $29 billion and Global Financial impact created and one thing that drove me crazy while I was there was that we couldn't actually get any skin in the game every quarter when we ran grants rounds it was my job to go out and speak to literally anyone and everyone who would be willing to give us money to run these grants rounds and so I also got put into a unique position where the Venture funds the centralized exchanges the highet worth individuals vitalic actually gave countless amounts of money to us and just never wanted to actually get any recognition for it uh the D5 protocols the nft projects like I got a chance to know all of them and so

I got to sit in this unique position where almost like the capitalism of a public goods project was outsourced to me to be able to do while I was there I did a large deal with UNICEF with Shell Oil with the American Cancer Society uh today I'm still a a consultant for the UNICEF crypto fund uh also for Mercy Corp Ventures and so doing sort of like public goods even in that way so when I assessed what it takes to actually build a blockchain it was something that really became very clear to me there's two separate problems that you need to be able to solve the first one being how do you get tvl users liquidity transactions onto your blockchain and

then the second one is how do you get Builders to actually go about building on that blockchain now we've gotten to the place where we have what must be 200 l2s with 60 of them that are there are altel ones there's a million places to build and while everyone's been talking about why they think we're in this place where infra keeps getting funded and consumer apps can't get access to any money I've actually written on this and it was sort of Rich being someone who's raised $20 million at a nine fig valuation but I sat down and as someone who's in a position that I get to be behind closed doors with all of these people I've even written four coin Des to say look there's a misalignment between

what investors are supposed to do and which is make money for their LPS and what we actually are looking for when it comes to building consumer applications that are actually going to take off because when you're thinking about an infro you can really just like raise a bunch of money not do a lot of tech do a bunch of marketing launch a token have that token make a bunch of money and you just like you Market as the next ethereum killer or whatever it is and so there's a ton of money to be made in doing this there's not a ton of money in any of the consumer applications more so because we don't even know which chain it should be built on should it be built on an evm chain should it be on salana should it be on apto should it be onui

and at the end of the day it really made me think about as we launched our own L2 what is it that we need to do to actually create a thriving ecosystem of products that succeed because where we've gotten stuck is that the infrastructure providers have sort of become like the main characters or have like main character syndrome where they want to have the biggest parties they want to have the biggest branding they want the coolest merch they want you to know who they are their Founders are the ones that want to be on all of the biggest stages but at the end of the day that makes a very small subset of people a lot of money and not anyone else and so we've come to this place where many of you have correctly addressed the idea that it seems like we're stagnating and

there's no actual Innovation going on and the right things aren't being funded and how do we get out of this and what I often hear are interpretations of saying like well VCS need to be more open to things but at the end of the day you have to take a look at sort of the cycle that you need to actually create money if you're looking at like what are the incentive mechanisms in place for the people that you need to actually pay attention to you that's how I looked at how we can go about successfully launching our L2 but also being able to create success in a way that should be a positive flywheel and that I actually hope people in other L2 start to replicate and so when I said earlier for a blockchain to actually get the initial tvl users and transactions they did have

to go about doing this main character syndrome where they threw the biggest parties and do everything they could to actually get recognition so they could get those initial users so you don't look at it like a ghost chain but then after that we've gotten stuck in this place where every one of them including us will be like we're here to give you grants like all of you guys who are Builders here it's like like here's a 50k Grant or a 25k Grant and like now just like go figure it out and make this successful but the reality of it is is especially because I was at gitcoin is I got to talk to all these Builders and some of the smartest people I've met in this space who are Lightyear smarter than me don't know how to raise Venture Capital because once you've raised some

grant money you're initially building an MVP but that's not going to get you some sort of massive success you need Venture money and most of the people I talk to have no idea how to raise venture Capital the smartest people are in this position where figuring out what you need to do to pitch VCS is just something that just doesn't come easily to people I've been fortunate to be in the positions where I've had to do it so much that it's become second nature but that's not the way it is for the Venture funds and then next for everyone to actually make money is we need to have centralized exchanges traditionally list those tokens and the reason meme coins have been taking off this past year is because we're in this spot where there isn't a lot upside for people who are launching like I don't want to name

names but like companies who raise these like massive massive rounds again Rich coming from me where you raise these massive rounds and then you have a nine fig or a 10 fig fully diluted valuation when you launch the token because in the past you had to do that to be able to get listed on the larger exchanges but but the real cycle of this ends up being you find a builder the Builder gets access of some sort of venture capital they're able to then push this and create something that people want to use which I do believe there are many many products and projects that people do want to use if they could get the money to scale those things and then you get them listed on centralized exchanges and the way Venture funds make money is that tokens get listed and the token price

goes up and the way centralized exchanges make money is people just buy and sell the tokens on those centralized exchanges right and so the problem that I've been seeing and I'm looking to figure out how to solve is that we need to put build in a position where we make them the superstars the info provider should be in the back AWS makes so much money no one knows anything about AWS they are not cool they're not supposed to be but they print money and so the idea of being able to get the best Builders and to create something sort of like an incubator or a venture Studio which will allow us to bring the best VCS and the best exchanges in because to me that means that we come to a place where the best Builders come to you

you're able to be hypers selected you move away from these Grant mercenaries who like I don't blame them but we'll build a Unis swap fork and then just launch a copy on 10 different chains for 50k each but I think that's because the conditions that have been made which don't allow them to take the next steps and so I believe that if we create those conditions that allow them to raise Venture and then get listed on exchanges you create a positive flywheel that will actually bring real products and projects to Market that will actually make money and we'll see things in the global South really take off because there's a massive need for crypto products there we will see things in decentralized science take off we will still continue to see defi projects take off and the last part why I think this is going to be difficult in ways is

because centralized exchanges and Venture funds play Zero Sum games of trying to get access and compete for the smallest number of deals but my idea is to try to convince them that if we make the pi larger that there's actually way more money to be made for everyone involved and this comes all the way back to I've done all of the most regen things and still do but I think that we need to find a way to bridge D and Regen to create a positive flywheel so that we can actually push this industry forward thank [Applause] you thank you guys um so the numbers have failed us which means we're just

going to go through the last four very quickly ysep would you like to come up or talk from there sorry yes thank you sweet hey guys uh my name is Yosef and I'm gonna break the UN rules and talk about a love story this is a love story between ethereum and Africa I know we've been looking at each other from afar waving hands writing love letters winking at each other but I think we're getting ready to take this

relationship to the next phase um before we talk about the next phase I want to ask you all like many of us have been in ethereum and crypto for you know number of years um how many of you see like the biggest value ad of ethereum is to actually solve problems in the real world raise your hand if you think that's one of the and it's okay not to as well um how many of you guys think that for this space to actually Thrive and survive we just need to have a lot more people using it like maybe a billion plus people raise your hand if you think that's the case great okay um how many of you guys think today here in Japan where we're staying like crypto can transform our financial

industry yeah and can we actually do it like can we replace soft bank today if we want to no okay good luck to us um and and maybe that's not the point but I guess the point I'm trying to make is that we we've been talking about real world uh use cases and solving real problems for a billion plus people while in fact so much of that is happening in the one of the fastest growing markets in the world with the youngest people were all Boomers if we go to Africa today um and all these worlds are very disconnected right so actually the crypto use in Africa last year um the on chain transactions made up about

18% of the export from the whole continent right in many countries that are using crypto we have between 5 to 20% of the population utilizing crypto and we were growing at the point like crypto transactions were growing at the point where we're in a bare Market in the rest of the world because it's all driven by utility yes for a while it's US dollar stable coins because that's actually allowed us to get plugged into the global economy where the banks and other institutions are actually failing us but there's a lot of innovation experimentation happening on the continent that we're actually not seeing each other eye to eye and the number one reason is that all major ethereum events

that have happened from day Zero have happened in places where most African Builders cannot participate because of visas uh what that means is you guys are not actually being in included in the momentum that is happening in Africa so here we're really missing out on the actual real world use cases that is able to drive towards a billion people outside of the speculative Cycles so my proposal is very simple let's bring Defcon to Africa 2026 I know we really want to I know deep inside we all really want to make it but we're a bit afraid we're scared we don't know right it's far it's dangerous there's a lot of crime there

is like there's a lot of those things that keep us away and there's a lot of people who ask who's building I don't I haven't met many African Builders that's because they can't get visas to come to where all our events are right so we're the the further we get disconnected the the the the less impact we can actually create together um and I say 2026 because a lot of African countries are at an interesting uh juncture and inflection point Dell mentioned ear a lot of the stuff happening in Ghana but you know we have 500 million people who don't have any form of ID right so are we going to give that contract to Google first we cannot afford to pay Google to build our like

internally like identity system for many countries and so we got to figure these things out and we're doing that right now right we're we're trying to figure out how to run settlement across all African countries because at the moment it's all happening through the dollar through US bank system imagine neighboring countries having to trade with a currency that you have nothing to do with and a banking system that's so far away from you right so we're trying to figure all these things out and so if ethereum Waits too long to actually start getting involved we might miss the boat in terms of actually providing an infrastructure in which a very futuristic financially and economic system is being built so what is the call to action well let's build this

momentum towards 2026 but also so before that we have a number of initiatives and activities happening on the continent uh September August September October there's like a whole array of ethereum events happening in Ghana Kenya South Africa Nigeria uh so you all should come I'm happy to post the the dates uh at Defcon we're going to have some African Builders coming there there's the global majority District where you're going to see a lot of laam Africa Asian Builders coming um and 2025 like I know there are some amazing Global event organizers here hint hint uh we'll be amazing to have you guys do those events on the continent just so that more Builders can come and you know

tiptoe and get more comfortable in places and last IID say is that um wherever you go across Africa fun is the number one common denominator that we have with food music and dance and culture and so I can almost guarantee you that if we do Defcon in Africa like you'll have a blast you'll dance your ass off you'll eat amazing food meet incredible humans with the biggest Smiles your cheeks will hurt so I think like that Vibe I think it would be incredibly beneficial and additive to the ethereum world that we have here so let's make Devcon 2026 happen thank [Applause]

you yeah thank you Yousef um so I want to share like a personal story I I I do believe that seeing is believing so I went to Ghana for the first time back in 2014 and just saw a lot of crazy Innovation happen um like in in the web 2 world like you would never think these um African Builders are building cool applications until you're actually on the continent so I do believe that if um you know people outside of Africa and uh can just you know kind of get over get get get over your fear to actually go visit uh you'll see a lot of cool things um and and I think just from the outside

when you think about Africa um I mean no offense like the first thing you think about is probably those um airdrop farmers in Nigeria but I'm sure there are a lot of really really cool Innovations happening um and then it's also crazy to think about in 2024 a lot of the areas in the world are still trapped because of the stupid Visa issue uh in the decentralized world we think everyone's uh you know equal you can go anywhere in the world but the reality is we're still trapped by these um kind of things govern by centralized government but if we can uh you know kind of bypass all the hurdles in front of us and just

Foster some uh you know the the bridges the connections um I think we see a lot of great things that we didn't know that exist just like my personal experience here this year in Japan before I came here I didn't know like you know it's possible to bring everyone here in etherum Corum from everywhere around the world and yeah so thank you uh really appreciate you sharing your story and actually just to add to that so we're not starting from zero last year we had vitalic and a who actually coming uh spend uh he vitalic spent almost a month across four African countries uh we didn't have a single

security guard with us and he's all fine um uh early this year we and in carti came last year as well with scroll and arbitrum uh we recently hosted the majority almost the entire core research uh core Dev team researchers and uh uh uh uh just a lot of people contributing to the layer one infrastructure that's quite actually like scary to have all those people in one place and we did in Kenya and chy how was it amazing right so yeah there's a lot of that momentum that that's been happening here guys um so yeah it's it's not that scary one thing I want to sort of ask or or say is I've noticed the uh

a couple of things of the last year have been hosted like Network states have been hosted in Africa um and they' again from the the outside perspective I wonder if there's some temptation to take advantage of some of the lower regulatory environments in Africa and I wonder how do you stop that from being extractive um and and more of an empowerment to the local community rather than an extraction from the local economy uh there a good question it's a longer discussion but even asking that I think is really important like how do we actually show up in a non-extractive way in a way there's a win-win um if we're looking at the success of crypto in 10 years from now like the success of the African Market will drive so much success for the ethereum world that I think is is really valuable like

projects that are surviving in Africa today they're all making Revenue like that's a crazy idea in crypto right projects making Revenue but that's this that's the foundation right so because they're adding a lot of value to the space so there's a lot of win-win situations that can happen I I would love to just make one final point which is I would encourage you to on board the African Builder Community to warp cast uh because the Indian Community just recently came on to warp cast and I think has just blown us all away and now there's Western Venture mummy fumbling into or at least asking to get into some of the Indian deals and so you know if you feel like you're isolated on an island like come on to warp cast the water is great yeah I will gift cool yeah great

perfect thank you so much Devon you're up hi everyone my name is Devon Marty um I'm affiliated with s sound I'm one of the co-founders and I represent the audio and music web 3 community so the problem this won't be a surprise probably to anyone is that the music industry and audio industry are fairly uh centralized and we are largely uh failing because of this centralization right you have connection Discovery monetization creation and consumption are all things both creators and fans struggle with so that I'm not the first person to say this we have a large

community that has been trying to solve this issue and the solution that they've come to is we need a more decentralized audio industry how have they done that mostly music nfts or content nfts which uh I largely uh do not believe solve the issue so a music nft uh for example uh is rather conf using uh if we're talking about bridging to a web two audience uh because what do you do with it uh how is this different from streaming on Spotify actually it's it's harder uh than streaming on Spotify what does this get me are there royalties are there uh do I own a part of the song If it's ever played on a commercial do do I see some of that so having a

uh the I guess the challenge is in our approach we are probably not going to bridge to a web a web 2 audience correctly with the current state in our current approach so my proposal here is you know we we have our way at Sun sound of doing this right of integrating blockchain uh into audio hardware and software to you know give exposure to creators and to build onchain fandom but you and and you can read about that in here but the thing I want to focus on today is a little bit more uh about the approach not uh how we're or what we're doing how we're doing it instead so the

bridging the bridging uh perhaps the solution right for us all creators Builders uh is to start bringing the web 3 spirit and culture into our goto Market strategies so audio is an experience uh it's an art uh it's it's also uh art tends to be a oneway street someone makes the art and you consume the art audio though again can be uh a little different as many other things can be it can be a two-way street right bridging needs to be fun interactive and Community Driven right we need to start uh Building Products that include communities and and that create fun so for instance myself uh my co-founder here at DL he was the founding engineer

at Beats by Dre uh beats took a very specific approach uh back in 2008 uh to creating audio Hardware uh so we sat down we looked at the market and we realized okay instead of creating a a vampiric u approach to our go to market where we use web 3 uh to raise funds uh and and build a community that is just going to be there to uh talk about us on Twitter uh perhaps we use web 3 to establish super fans to uh actually listen to them to measure onchain uh the interactions we had with them in product testing and to drive value back to them so uh our specific approach was to take simple nfts give them away uh you want

to come into the community it is free to do please jump in Discord share your music all that stuff right things that anyone can do with no barrier to entry except for the internet then uh we said if you are really interested in product testing you can soulbind this token it will mark on chain that you are here to product test and we know where to drive uh tokenized fals that represent prototypes of our hardware and we did that and we are able to get into very quickly 22 countries where people were living with our devices product testing cool moving on we got into 37 countries with our next prototype we Ed those tokens on chain to create a a a governance proposal right where uh we

wanted to know what creators what artists producers that we should send our next prototype to so with this process we were able to iterate very quickly uh with a consumer device that made it an experience and brought people in uh honestly have a lot of fun meet new friends and be part of something that is more than just buying a product you actually got to be a part of of building the product and that is not something people uh usually get to say when it comes to uh technology so uh in conclusion I would say the go to market uh should be should emulate the decentralized ethos right whether you're a Creator or a brand uh bridging is uh not just about the prod it's about the

process uh that we we use right that gets community members uh to one come to where you are be interested in what you're doing actually listening to them when they have good ideas we had I don't know how many iterations based on community feedback that led to a better product so we were better off they get to tell their friends family about this cool thing they're doing they're having a lot of fun with community and then we can continue using onchain uh tools to drive value back to them uh perpetually and we will do that uh as we continue to grow so that's my proposal it's a cultural shift to how we build and go to market that is the bridge not necessarily just the product thank [Applause] you I'm very excited to see the

intersection between vigital space uh and sound and what that can bring to the artistic space and what both of those can bring to in my particular case the decentralized science space but just generally the space in general um do you have any like Partnerships experience with anything like these traditionally non-artistic non-visual audio projects maybe collaborating to create that sort of artistic aesthetic value in something typically cold yeah that's a good point so it's actually been also interesting there not just from a a feedback perspective but doors that have opened uh to uh producers people that uh you know from the highest of the high to like Grassroots being able to work with specifically one producer AEL Kagawa he

has been able to take what we built and For the First time mix and master with an inar format so that opened our our eyes oh okay we can now uh create this this call it Farm to Table audio where where the the creation is made for the medium of consumption most of us listen with airpods right or inar headphones you don't mix and master music with inar headphones ever period right it's a speaker or seniz or hd800 over your head that is a different Med medum of the artist or the engineer mixing and mastering and monitoring that song To the End consumer so now we actually it opened up a whole you know like boom explosion in the brain wow that's that's incredible so uh I would say the the collaboration with Community uh and and

the doors that they have opened has also been something very valuable um I wanted to just add something that uh just now we were talking about um one of the use cases in Malaysia which is this my Member of Parliament project the is it it is not actually only just using nft to fundra to buy your own Member of Parliament it's actually supporting volunteers to run citizen science citizen journalism to collect data and on top of that they are developing a what they call a government games so they're actually creating like role playing type um like caricature uh using those nfts so that uh I guess you can call it it's kind of like embracing web tree culture but uh in government now so and of course music

is part part of it art is part of it for sure and identity is super important again that helps solve uh we're working on something as well uh it helps solve that fandom issue right and being able for creators to connect directly with uh with anyone around the world in a way that matters um so I think you know from what you said um you know like draw just drawing comparison back to uh Spotify it took them probably around 10 years to be where they are right so now it's like the music streaming platform so I guess in 10 years do you see Sansung being this ultimate know web 3 music platform or do you see it more like as like the

product testing um platform yeah thank you ell it's uh we are not intending and this is advice I I tend to give is don't uh build um things that may be buttheads directly with things like Spotify that are so ingrained uh uh build applications that work with them really well build uh necessarily not necessarily on top but at least adjacent uh and so I would say what we're building one uh you have to consume your Spotify somehow right so uh headphones are are a natural extension to Spotify uh but on top of that what we're building more on our software side uh is also an extension for helping artists um not necessarily uh we don't want to collect a database of of music that's very difficult to do and Spotify is

taking a long time like you said uh we want to create uh systems for exposure uh and connectivity with a fan base that are more organic uh more Global uh and easier right with payment rails that are quicker uh we know funds go directly to who they're going to um and then if you want to continually listen them to them on a day-to-day basis sure hop over to Spotify we know that's not where they're going to make most of their money most of their money is going to be made in merch and and touring right so finding ways to amplify that and and increase Revenue sources there for creators that's probably where we'd want to look and and again it would it would be ancillary or it would be uh supportive of Spotify thank you very much thank you

Quinn I'm one of is it on okay hi everyone I guess that I'm one of the last one here um so have you been to Vietnam anyone yes and do you know at least one project w three project from Vietnam yes and have any of you Jo e Vietnam thank you so actually my proposal today is just like how to onboard more wet stre projects to solve the real life problem in Vietnam um so first of all I also uh would like to go through like what is the problem and why this problem uh

before that I would like to share with you more about a bit more information about Vietnam because I believe that actually right now a lot of protocol also like a lot of you know different Foundation also put a lot of priority in other um like America or Europe uh not yet much in Asia especially in Vietnam uh so in Vietnam right now we have um total of around 900,000 developers we have about 400,000 developer uh in web3 and every year we also have about 50,000 freshly graduate it student uh which we also really want to convert those into web

three and in Vietnam also right now we have more than 200 web tree projects um uh and uh mostly the building focus on gamey uh roughly about 30% defy about 26% nft about 133% and wet in about 12% however we see that the problem that uh not so many project actually that's uh really uh trying to uh number one that also like do focus on public goods or second that also like uh really can last long um and also trying to really solve the uh real G problem and most of the project uh right now also um

they do have really good quality but also like some project also like Focus follow the trends for example game five and still have the shortterm uh life cycle for example this three to six months so we also want to change that um so the about the this concept uh how we also uh trying to bring on and then also want to have more global resources support and also involve the local community to uh um solve this problem so number one that we also really focus on education um we really uh do a lot of Workshop um for public uh good Workshop involve student and local

developers and we have done more than 300 workshops for students and uh we work with more than 25 University across Vietnam uh and in Vietnam right now uh also like started to have several University started to do blockchain um you know Academy cost for student um and the government also support this and the second thing that we uh trying to do here is like actually through the conferences or also like um we do different camps for builder for example e Vietnam uh we started since 2022 uh until this year we have about 3,000 attendance who are developers and also the end user and also uh we do

different camps for Builder like uh The Residency model for developers that they can stay in for from one week to four month uh four weeks and then they also co-living and ciding together and trying to view and and show more real showcase to solve the problem in Vietnam and in Asia and also other thing that we do is like we also work with uh the government uh agencies to bring the web tree education to different Enterprises and also different provinces to trying to let them really understand about blockchain and also how to apply um and trying to um solve the

problem so um the next part we um also like want to share maybe a bit about Vietnam that you can see here also if you can move in The Proposal like some of the University or about the project that we do in Vietnam um right now so for example in 2023 um the blockchain and crypto sector in Vietnam um really grow fast and also like as you can see that some of the number of the projects here for example RC Infinity the total Capital here is about uh nearly $1 billion uh this is the data end of

2023 uh and also like uh Bron for example like nearly 500 Millions um Launchpad game five about 153 Millions uh kyber Network about uh more than 100 millions and and some other project as you can see here um and we also have done a lot of eon hackathon so actually this really want to onboard more projects and more builder to build the new project um and bring in the new project into the ecosystem and actually um one of the key thing that we really want to highlight uh which is the tracks for you know number one that solving the real problem in Vietnam um and and can

apply immediately um in Vietnam and the second that also focus on the public good tracks um so um talking about Vietnam uh crypto adoption here also uh why we want to mention about this uh because we also really not only want to focus on the developers uh to to you but we also want to have more and more Enterprises especially even the government um the the government um um Enterprises to apply this so that's why we also approach uh a lot of like Enterprises uh um the big one the biggest one in Vietnam uh so for example even the banking or also other you know education institution in Vietnam uh to

collaborate with us and to do it like expand more and more and so however we still have some other challenges here uh so for example like we also see that like how to really um grow for the user friendly application uh so that we can on board uh more mass and mass adoption in Vietnam right now in Vietnam we have about uh 17 million crypto user um but we also want to bring more and more people and actually also make uh um help the developer to build more the app which is more friendly to user also and the second part that we want to uh mention here also the

challenges is the regulation because like uh Vietnam also uh uh still the government really support for the technology but they still a bit skeptical about crypto because uh I believe that the government still haven't really um understand deeply about this um so they they still want to test a water but they they they they want to support all the startup and especially the web three startup but whenever mention about crypto there's still a bit of a skeptical um and also another thing that we um share with you here if you want to go through even that like more details about how Vietnam government also like started to build the sandbox for setup in Vietnam

especially in web3 um setup uh we also started to um reference from other countries like Singapore or Dubai or Malaysia the neighbor countries and we we also start to see that like hopefully in next year we start to have the official um Westy or crypto regulation um so that's briefly about what I propos about Vietnam and then uh I have two humble call to action today with all of you guys uh number one that we really want to have more collaboration and support from global resources come to Vietnam uh and also either Mentor also like funding and also

just like get to know about Vietnam ecosystem uh and also the second thing is also like uh how we also can create the Align together just like sharing all the open source of um you know like the the projects that really so the real war problems or even that share more the Showcase about that over the world so Vietnam uh projects and and viewers also can learn from it thank you so [Applause] much thank you thank you any quick comments Okay Kevin unless you're last

yeah hello everybody uh my name is Kevin Jones uh I'm a developer relations engineer actually working on the graph protocol but I'm also a core member of the build Guild um first of all I just want to say thank you for having me at this and for everyone that's here uh it's been really inspirational to hear like everyone's uh views and problems and I think it's really really constructive to get everyone together I know I've already had some great conversations with people uh on how we can collaborate so it's really great um I'm going to kind of read through the proposal and then I'm going to tell a little bit of a story about my experience uh in the build Guild um first of all the build Guild is an established Dow that is cons basically consists of a curated group of Builders

dedicated to strengthening the ethereum ecosystem it's been operating successfully for some time and the build Guild focuses on creating open- Source tools some of you might have heard of scaffold eth and educational content like speedrun ethereum which is a great entry point for developers who want to come into the ecosystem and by um onboarding more developers and addressing niches Niche use cases that are highly useful but less attractive to venture capitalists due to open source education um during sorry due to Monet monetization challenges uh we create impact builds which are bran of branches of scaffold eth or examples of how you can use scaffold eth to um build on on ethereum by providing open source

education and tools the build Guild empowers developers to grow within the ethereum ecosystem and offers funding to prototype and develop Solutions in a flexible and an unbureaucratic manner the proposed plan for future engagement in the ethereum ecosystem will involve Global collaboration and strategic planning with chains daps and ecosystem Partners a lot of you that are here today the build Guild is prepared to work with the ethereum community to grow the ecosystem and support the next generation of builders in the space one of the core goals of the build Guild is to attract new developers as they are essential to the overall health of the network new Builders bring fresh ideas and they create new protocols which

affect more more users attract more users and make the network more appealing compared to other networks and additionally we focus on creating highly useful tools that may not interest venture capitalist due to monetization challenges to achieve this we must leverage our own Builders to develop tools that support the ecosystem we also aim to enable developers to prototype and build Solutions in an open-source Cooperative manner through specialized cohorts uh that we call build Guild cohorts and these focused cohorts bring together groups of Developers ERS to work towards a predetermined objective providing structure and guidance from an operator who manages that that developer pool so we want to strengthen the ethereum ecosystem by producing these

open source and Educational Tools and we want to grow the ecosystem by having a Community First approach where the tools and education are power powered by the underlying success of its members we have found that supporting communities around the globe has made a huge impact in the success of the build Guild and its members and we believe uh that the nourishing smaller communities of these Builders will have a huge impact on the industry so why what are the an anticipated challenges well first and for first first and foremost it's critical to keep the tools in education open source uh at all costs this way there's no barrier to entry and no walls that need to be you know surpassed and we aim to do this on a global scale

which also can be financially challenging uh we aim to collaborate more with established protocols and communities to build a stronger ethereum developer ecosystem by seeking grants and support and we strive to keep our community of Builders active and continuously bring new developers into the ecosystem so uh my background actually I got started as a web2 developer I worked for engx which is a popular web web 2 uh protocol uh Tool uh and I got my start during I was actually during covid um I started to kind of look into how I could actually move into web 3 and uh the one of of the first places I landed on was actually eth Global shout out to cark uh he's in the back here eth Global was a huge entryway for me into learning um I

got to you know take part in all this um educational content that was available at the time all virtual um and it was really like my entryway into ethereum uh but I still challenged I I still like struggled with finding the tools that I needed uh and I came across scaffold e and it was a really eyeopener for me because it really was an easy entry point in in you know for me as a web2 developer to to come into the web through ecosystem um and then as it stands today I'm now one of the core members of the build Guild I work in the community um pretty actively and I think it's it's a very uh powerful um community that we have and so the call to action is to reach out to me uh reach

out to the build Guild we'd like to work with other communities I've already had like I said a few conversations with some of you uh but we do want to actively help each other we think it's a bilateral reciprocal um community and we're here to support and yeah thank you so much for your time appreciate [Applause] it any any comments or questions four minutes really cool that you worked at enginex thank you yes I do miss enginex actually I still play around with it a little bit thank you I just want to say

thank you for the work that scaffold eth does I know so many people that have started their Journey there so thanks thank you um do you care about the scalability issue for Belo uh I think the scalability issue uh is not currently a problem I think do you mean in terms of like funding or in terms of uh in terms of like how many people that are actually qualifi to contribute and like cuz you have like that whole system set up right yeah so there has been some kind of Minor Adjustments to the way that we do funding uh through the platform through the actual build Guild app um we're trying to focus more on Focus cohorts

now uh so we have specific de developers that support like the core tools like scaffold eth and the burner wallet functionality and the hooks and the components for react but when it comes down to like um ways that we're working with the e system one example is I work for the graph uh obviously so we have a specialized um cohort that we're running that is very focused and directed with someone who oversees it currently that's me uh but I help uh figure out ways that we can kind of work together with the build Guild in that that relationship and we're trying to do that with other things like Jesse's Hacker House and other uh protocols we're actually talking to like trying to help out ZK sync with some stuff um so there's a lot of interesting things that we're doing

where it's more focused work now um unless like just everybody can join the build Guild and get a stream um and just trying to figure out what we can make that a little more impactful cool thank you so much guys appreciate it great we got through it all 24 woo so this whole day has been about uh taking a break from being consumed with our what whatever is on our own plate and just being more cognitive about having a global identity um and just sharing with everyone else around the world what

you're doing and how you're solving um and having a speedrun uh through a global um effort to drive impact to solve uh happy to engage any constructive criticism please submit it um email it to us or put it in our telegram group uh did you want more context on what happened [Laughter] today so we have we have communities from Africa Asia North America South America uh also I thought they were from antar do you have any Penguins Pudgies are out here I mean I use count um and we had uh creative

collectives from music industry to Art uh the the builders Community from devs and researchers uh so it was a great culmination of uh Collective Global effort uh thank you guys for coming uh we want to do this again I hope this was the correct venue for something like this and we want to keep this event as accessible uh and as open as possible with the correct professional Benchmark and now we have the amazing metallic uh the floor is yours um do you want to engage before we people ask questions um I mean I don't have a

presentation ready but uh I don't know I mean I feel like I'll just answer questions because I like i' you know I'm happy to like listen to and response to what people here care about so I can ask um hello hello thank you so there's been some recent uh debates on Twitter about ethereum's road map and updates to the core protocol how do you see like in the long-term future let's say we have a billion users on ethereum how is like the whole world going to keep up with ethereum's core updates do you kind of see like a better way we could be like explaining it to

people I say we as like people who kind of know more about the core protocol yeah I mean I think like first of all I definitely I think the intention is for the current like rate of things changing to like absolutely not continue forever right because there's uh there's like this pretty fixed uh you know like set of onetime things that we're still going through for now right I think you know there's definitely an intense for ethereum to like settle down into something that has a clear and stable uh thing that provides mil particular properties but at the same time I think uh I mean there is definitely a a lot of value in getting uh people more involved in the uh like research part of the and research and core development part of

ethereum um like I think on the application side and even on the ler 2 side like there's been a huge amount of progress compared to five years ago right and like the kinds of teams that have uh participated have just expanded a lot and there's people that are like completely disconnected from the uh the crews that were running the show back in 2017 which is good I think with core development like the challenge is that there's this big backlog of information and I know those often like illegible set of objectives that we're optimizing for right and uh like it does definitely make it some like harder to participate in as an academic problem

right like if you're a consensus researcher then like you know what it means to have know like onethird fall tolerance but like do you know the you know like 42 two other things that people care about um I think the thing that we really need to start doing is just uh like having more conversations of some kinds that include both uh people from the existing core research and Dev groups and uh people who like have some level of context and who have you know like some willingness to engage on the on those topics but like not quite um in um like but are not quite up to date right because I think there there are definitely a lot of these

issues on which there's people who can have some you know like really valuable things to contribute like including consensus algorithm design um you know including the ZK side including um even making sure the protocol was like not just safe but I like even much better than today for solo staking um you know in including the whole know like L2 side and usability side of the ecosystem but it's it's something where we needs to really like create that intersection between like like a much much greater set of people and people have been thinking about those questions so far um

so I think if uh we can have more of those kinds of chats then like we can make a lot of progress yeah uh so uh like on uh crypto in general so far like in terms of putting money on chain or creating money value on chain uh the part that has kind of succeeded the most is the US dollar stable coin um and I'm curious to hear from you in terms of what are other like highly scalable experiments with money you think that is possible that interfaces with people in the real world yeah I mean I think I mean one is

there's the the whole question of like can we create like either mirrors of um or like assets that are based on other kinds of real world assets and indices right I mean actually I made a few suggestions on Twitter about this a couple of days ago right like alternative things that Ry could track um instead of tracking the US dollar I me I think it's like it's definitely a super valuable um experiment to try to run I mean obviously yeah you know we should not be under the illusions that it would like succeeded immediately because uh US Dollars just like does have a pretty formidable Network effect but having something that's just uh like at the least um you know sitting there

and um like actively worked on and actively used enough that it works as a backup I think is uh going to be super valuable and I also think uh if we start to like actually get some of these other applications that try to like bring like do other kinds of things in a way that intersects both with you know the real world real world economy and intersects with the chain whether that's uh some of these like real estate fractionalizing applications I me or possibly even uh something related to music or like any of those things then like one natural product of those applications is it Al is that it means

we get an index of another kind of value that's uh that's on chain and so that like also creates another kind of like stable value US do alternative um so I think the more that we can expand the kinds of assets that are available and like ideally even know not just go with uh like create mirrors of things that you can already buy inside of uh stock exchanges I know if you're the sort of person who can buy inside of stock exchanges but like try to actually create completely new asset classes that like f know like needs that are currently not filled yet so one of the most obvious use cases

when it comes to blockchain for at least a lot of my friends and myself is identity right and we have seen a lot of companies build in Direction curious what do you think is the next Frontier of identity Solutions proof of humanity C all of that I mean I guess get one question I would ask you is like what do you think that like you and your friends want out of an identity solution I think the concept of self Sovereign identity is something super fascinating and we have been thinking quite a lot about that yeah I mean I think like I mean like I feel like I agree with those uh with like The self- Sovereign identity concept at a high level right I feel like like the thing that I would love to do is try to like intersect and like go from you know the

high-minded ideals and then at the same time going from like this is a specific thing that I want to do so you know is there any like specific thing that you or your friends wants to do that comes to mind I mean question for anyone really I think heard pretty much on from a lot of folks about developer reputation then there obviously Financial reputation and all that ties back to Identity at the end of the day if you can identify someone and then you know kind of just meritocratic match them to the right kind of incentives the right kind of opportunities that essentially what's we can create yeah I mean I guess like one one particular example would be like under collateralized loans right yeah so that's one um I me governance and uh like voting obviously another one Ian

any like any third or fourth come to mind no I can I think I like closer to within the crypto space I also throw throw out air drops right because like you know lots of projects like wants to have a more widely distributed token Supply uh but at the same time you know if you do that naively then like you know you get Farms to death pretty quickly um but yeah I think uh like this is like the way that I'm starting to try to like approach some of some of these things right which is uh basically that uh like there's this uh like from one side I think you know there's kind of

the top down um like like top down in an intellectual sense not in the sense of like a company controlling everything right like you know the top down approach of like figure out a framework that does a good job of like encompassing many different kinds of things um and uh like these are starting to exist right like we've had you know Pope for a long time I know we've had zup pass for about over a year now I you know we have EAS I know ethereum mestation service and then on the flip side like try to really see like can we like take you know like specif can we take like applications that we think in theory benefit from this and like actually build them like actually try to get like two or three different things

from different categories like actually really uh working together and I think like I I think like now is absolutely the right time to do this right uh because uh now is uh like we actually have the technology know all of the stuff in terms of like things like you know the user account management side is getting better um for for any onchain operations you know we actually have layer 2s they're actually affordable and then know we have like zero knowledge proofs that are like actually fast enough that they like make sense like it's a you know you know it's like a level of ux that would pass a you

know like a a Silicon Valley you know like anen of about 200 milliseconds kind of filter um I mean almost right I think uh if you actually no no you can do a Stark in under 200 milliseconds it passes the test um so that's uh like like we actually have all all of that Tech right and so it like I think it would be like I think there's you know a lot of value both in those applications being developed and in the ethereum community really working together on like trying to coordinate standards for this kind of stuff um so like I've actually been pushing p recently to try to really get get more

into into that space and I think there's a lot of will too so I uh you know like you know there's there's a lot of value like I totally agree it's you know the way to unlocking an entire new dimension of applications and 'll definitely fully support everyone working hard on pushing that forward yeah um I was just going to share that um when it comes to Identity systems uh there might be an opportunity that um we have talked about actually in ethereum K Meetup even when our friends from Pagoda was visiting which is that um historically Malaysia was uh ruled by the same party for 60 years and part of that was done through vote buying and technically Malaysia is three countries

in one which is uh East Malaysia actually um has their independence over immigration education religion and all that so um so what happened was that uh Sabah of Malaysia actually gave out identity cards um for votes and so um now there's just like a massive like clean up process around it and I think it could be a good uh use case for attestations where you can be like okay well you did get an identity card but was it legit like can you you know attest to that and how many okay yeah so there's there's that uh but um as we have also experience um in Malaysia like um things that sounds good on paper

might not actually be implemented that way for example uh during covid we actually have our um vaccination app uh be promoted as this ZK proof U blockchainbased uh Health Data app and um and eventually we discovered that uh Malaysian Health Data was just sold to the Singaporean government um and and and that's also because you know we kind of know that like the the company who was doing that like we're like ZK hm you know but I'm just saying this because like it feels like uh looking at real world use cases um like implementation Wise It's I like it's hard um and also I wonder um do you personally have any

like adjacent possible use cases that you're interested in and also like moonshot goals as well yeah I mean I think um like as as an ecosystem we need to like work toward having the level of like software and like implementation competents uh so that we can actually present A solution that would be viable at Country scale for that for that kind of situation right and like that is a transition right because I think like for most of cryptos and for like ethereum's history we were like okay let's dump things on chain yeah sure it costs like and uh like you know like basically

dealing with like small communities of enthusiasts where mostly you know either they can if there's a technical error they can figure out what's going on or they have a friend who does and like really uh moving from that to this U much uh larger scale and you know we're starting to see that in the payment space for example you know you have like things like doo and like some of these like second generation wallets that are trying to take the the user experience side of things seriously right um so I feel like part of the challenge is like just uh you know just like they existing entities that are both like actually capable on the ux side of things and on

the side of like making something that doesn't crash a 50 million people use it side of things and at the same time like uh like the sort of entity where like if they say ZK it's like actual ZK and like you know it has like it actually has all of the properties that we want uh so my thinking has been that like you know we needs to try to like step up the know the ladder and like start taking steps up over time right and so like there's a couple of small countries that like I'm in in chats with right now to try to like you know do some of these uh and know Countrywide whether it's like reputation or or voting things at a

small scale scale um at the same time like I do think it would beol if uh we can also use some of these categories of uh applications that you know like have been kind of like have shown that they can get millions of users just like because of the fun D value um as a test bed right so you look there's clearly like whether it's games or it's airdrops or or something else like these are real environments where you're actually dealing with like millions of people and often very non-technical people and uh if uh like the people in the space that are highly Technical and the people in

the space that are building those applications can uh work together and if we can actually you know try to like incorporate some of the know like whether you know Z identity um stuff or or or credentials or um collusion resistant voting or anything and like basically show that it actually can work in that Contex and like that's aex where it's like one of those steps up the ladder right like you go to like larger scale in terms of people but at the same time it's still like reasonably low stakes in the sense that like if something breaks at least you're not breaking a country right um so I uh yeah like basically like like I want to like I think it's time to like actually take

those you know like medium steps uh up the ladder and it would be really nice to see a lot of those and we're starting to see some already hi yes hi um during my proposal I sort of mentioned this concept of a an interoperable data standard for machine readability to sort of allow decentralized AI to be utilized on on chain um and in my proposal I said to on board the next 1 billion users which Sai actually informed me was said by Aya which I did not know so I this question is for you if that's okay MH yeah um to on board the next 1 billion users what protections do you think are most important for those users we've

mentioned identity here uh I'm coming from the perspective of data uh in terms of attributions and valuations but from your perspective what is the um the most important protections for the next one billion users when bringing them onchain [Music] protection um well since censorship resistance is something we do here um I don't know like I think we can talk more about this too but um protection um they a lot of um well I guess one one

aspect is there are a lot of regulatory uh pressures could could block this this you know like Mass adop option to um you do you mean by protection by the community or the technology so by coming on chain we spoke earlier today uh Jack over here mentioned loss of funds as a critical concern for a lot of people retail users you know putting in the wrong address and losing their funds forever oh I see so that's just an example right right um but maybe your data sort of um the like being copied and the value being generated for someone else these there's literally many things so just from your perspective well uh there there are many many ways but for example um recently

what's relevant is that um um you know long time ago in this country smallx exchange was huged and then a lot of um assets were lost and then 10 years later um has it been uh you know is everything better some stuff are better and then things like account obstruction is now providing better solution like for for users wallet to be you know like you have more control you will have more control over um on on your wallet but that also requires a lot of education is needed on

the user side but also um those who are building new businesses systems around including exchanges and know both sides need to work together to to solve that um I do in general think a lot of education is still lacking on all different angles in all from all different angles but also in different layers of stakeholders and yeah but but we are as ASF we don't we you know we don't do everything but we also want to see where the where

education is lacking and that's where we need more input from you guys from all different uh communities around here and then um yeah for so the education on the developer side but I think technology is not the only thing um that can solve everything and yeah I me to me I think like the I me the loss of funds thing is a really good one to zero in on right because you know like as I keep saying like the thing that matters the most is not whether you have 5% APR or 8% APR it's making sure you don't have negative 100% APR um so I yeah and this is I know like obviously a

big reason why you know like stuff like account abstraction and all and all of these research uh directions have started I mean been curious CU I mean I did you know dial into the live stream and you know like I saw that you were talking about the the the sense to the wrong address thing as an example of people losing funds like what were some of the other like major examples that got mentioned or that you know about from the loss of funds perspective in particular yeah MH so basically um I see that that's the

major risk or fear retail have in order to be on board into crypto um so my proposal was around which I spoke with Sebastian about was the three words on like can alas type of two-way verification so any wallet can be whenever they send a uh a transaction you can prove before sending the trans action that you're being sent to the correct address basically um and I think that's uh a very interesting way of copying today's um banking system which has zero risk of losing your funds on every single transfer which today in crypto like as you very well mentioned the Z minus 100% APR by just sending it to a random address by mistake it's

something that a retailers fear the most yeah I mean have you uh published this as an ERC what come again an ERC no I I think you should I will yeah excellent yeah yes hello good afternoon after yeah um something that I'd mentioned in passing was how most of us still interact primarily with closed systems whether that be closed data centers closed identity Loops um what we're all trying to to strive towards here are more open systems what are some of like like the shared philosophies that excite

you when we move to a more open world like what do you hope to see versus what do you not hope to see like um when we're all open about everything MH I mean I think um like to like to me the forecaster ecosystem is this like very good example of like a lot of these values like actually working in action right because uh like first of all so you have uh like warcast which is the main forecaster client and warcast is like actually designed in a way that's like very Normie friendly like you don't have to already have a wallet like it basically just looks like you're downloading and using the Twitter app and like you know it does a lot of like wrapping for you and it's very dependent on their centralized stuff but then at the same time you know there are other

clients right you know you can use Flink to access forecaster you can use Fireflight access forecaster and so on and so forth right and uh like if someone new wants to come in they can create their own forecaster clients and they're just like they can just interact directly with um you know the like ethereum and the forecaster crdt and they can just build their own client it's automatically interoperable right and so if you know warcast starts doing things that we don't like then like it's actually not that difficult for people to migrate over right so that's like one example um another example is like how it does account recovery right where at the beginning it's like centralized

account recovery it's done by them but then warcast has a feature where you can go and like go into the advance section and you can change the recovery address of your account and so like and once you do that then like you can just send a transaction on ethereum from that account in order to do that in order to recover right and so like I actually just like set it to be like my like multisig wallet right and like that's something that I actually cost much more than any kind of centralized recovery right like you know people often say you know it's like centralized a web 2 company therefore it's safe but like the reality is like I actually yeah like I lost access to my Gmail account not

because I forgot any password but because they retroactively added a requirement that you need to like log like confirm your phone number and it was an old phone number that I no longer have and they have no way to do a backup and so like I can't access it anymore right and like there's uh know there's like actually lots of examples of like Web Two account recovery just like totally screwing up and being totally negligent right and uh I and so this is like one of the reasons why I'm like a big you know like social recovery bow kind of non-stop right I mean well I'm actually a sort of like I'm a choose your own recovery bow right like I think you should be able to like set your friends as Guardians and institutional Guardians and like you know do a combination of

and then for starter users they can just trust warcast and like do what you want right but uh like like it does a good job of like actually interoperating in this way right so basically like the the ultimate root of trust for me to hold on to my warcast account is now like actually like it is the same ethereum wallet that I you know like use to like you know control everything else in the in the ethereum world right and so you have like this kind of recoverability you have interoperability with the rest of the ecosystem you know you have interoperability with ens and so on and so forth right I mean things that I think they should add would be like when we start like really doing um you know

like identity and credentials much more seriously like I hope that you know warcast and the other clients introduce that too right so like I think what like that's like a good example for me of how when you know when we have open interoperability like all of these things do start like actually compounding uh each other and creating this like Network effect that's much stronger than any one like one applications and network effects put together so that's something I would love to see much more of thank you talic how are you doing I'm good thank you for asking are you I'm good

long time no see um obviously um we had the pleasure of Hosting you at web through arra um last year and the circumstances today were slightly different than the circumstances then um where conversations were centered around creating a harmonious environment um for eth um obviously I have a common agenda with Yousef to get DEF cor into Africa sooner rather than later so um that's something that we hope to see happening [Music] impressing me uh um it's not it's not B this this is not uh we're not

centralized organization so I'm the decision maker but well I I think we will get there some point um next one or or 2026 next one we will see but uh it's also up to you guys too yeah always always you know like uh there momentum is happening and then you know like you guys doing a lot better education there and then more communities are happening and yeah so there's a I think I mean yeah I one way to like one of the like tricky considerations right I think is like I

remember looking back to the defc that we did in Shanghai back in 20 uh 15 right and or trying to remember if it was 15 or 16 um I think it was 16 actually right and um like on the one hand it you know like works fine as an event but on the other hand like it definitely felt like I you know there were like like originally there was a goal of doing it in a collaboration with um like one of the local like heavily yeah like blockchain focused companies but the like actual level of interaction between like people coming in and the local community it just like ended up for being like I think like less strong than I had hoped it to be right and like

I felt like you know like had we put more work into it and like the like the level of value that could have come out of that like could have easily been twice like twice as much or more right and so in terms of uh like doing Devcon in Africa I think you know like we're super in favor of doing it we're also super in favor of like doing it well right and that's a big part of the reason why yeah you know we've I mean we did like I both of us I like went on that trip last year Ian like we came to Kenya this year like basically trying to like really build up so that those uh Community like relationships that we can like actually really build on top of uh act like are already pretty strong right

and so like it it really does a good job of like actually serving as like that boost of of bringing the uh African ethereum Community and the and the global Community together um so I like these are I think like these are the kinds of things where like that side of the preparation is uh like basically being done already right and you know you know I has been working hard you know y has been working super hard on that um so I I mean I think uh yeah with like to me within a couple of years feels absolutely possible can I just add one more m point is around policy so

when you came last year we didn't have a policy mhm our policy draft goes out Monday and it's going to be now public um with the guardian central bank so I guess my question to you is in a much more policy favorable environment what does the vision of E look like for [Music] Africa yeah it's a good question I mean I think uh I mean in terms of like what I would love to see in the like African ethereum Community I mean I think the biggest thing is that's like a very unique context in terms of what kinds of applications get deployed right in the sense that you know there's uh a lot of

uh different needs in terms of just like people wanting to get connected to um you know like both the global uh Financial system and economy but also even just to I like between like one African country and another um there's a lot of like Financial infrastructure like identity and reputation related infrastructure like like all of these things um and uh like there's stuff that's clearly serving people's know like pragmatic needs even uh today and I think uh I mean a policy friendly environment can absolutely help all those all of those applications actually

be successful um I think like the applications are the key thing like I think what we found is that like even in a policy unfriendly environments like if you wants to be a ZK researcher and you have the skills to be a ZK researcher like you can actually be a ZK researcher right but once you start getting into you know the application space and like the closer to the user space that's where that uh really makes a big difference um so I think if uh I mean like it's amazing that know we have that coming out next week if like that actually ends up being followed up with some like really good examples of applications being really uh

successful and like actually doing their job of like helping to connect people together and like helping connect people to the global economy I think it's uh like it would be uh really cool to like actually have a a Defcon in the context of know like not just know like talking about like Theory and promises and like onboarding you know like the next billion as an abstract number but like actually have like you know like 10 different presentations of that kind of stuff to show yeah adding to that I think um it's I always think um places with more challenges people get trained um on their creativity every single day they

have to um that's where I think power is is source of power and also creativity is there and then uh we are seeing more from Africa and then we'd love to see more and so that other places can learn from too and also uh extra thing about Deon is that um always it's been a challenge to bling people from Africa to other places because of the Visa um is is is hard for people there to get um we are we we are trying to do better this this year um so been working on it but also when we actually go to Africa for

Deon we will have to pick one place for a venue right and then um I know y you you have mentioned this before like inter Africa relationship and and then Visa I hope uh that gets better and then if there's anything speaking of creativity inside AER there's any any um solutions for that to be better that would be amazing um to see and I just I just uh you know always um like frustrated with that that tallenge because it's so hard their talents are there we want them to experience other

things uh things outside but it's it it's been hard and then so we we will try to do better getting help from you guys but um yeah I think we got time for one question I think aim um in Leona or two and then um Devon all right last three is that okay guys uh this one's for vitalic uh so I know you've seen how a lot of people have been talking about the stagnation and Innovation that's going on and people asking when are we actually going to get uh investment in consumer products considering that you made an angel investment in Mega E recently I was curious about your

ongoing appetite to either personally or through other vehicles help to invest in the kinds of things that people are looking for yeah I mean I think I mean in terms of uh layer tws I think it's you know it's great that we have them and it's great that we have you know like that we have different ones and know Mega eth is definitely taking you know their very unique approach and know I've since them I think know like some like low number of tens of thousands I forget same as you know with Tao and and scroll and and you know all the other folks so trying to uh you know support the whole ecosystem there I think uh at this point uh like the thing that uh

like the thing that I would actually end up contributing get even more to is uh applications uh like things that are closer to the application stack um but probably not quite individual applications because I think like if you're an end application then generally if you can uh succeed then like you can be self- sustaining but there's like infrastructure levels that are kind of in between right and so like one uh and and there's definitely some of that that gets fun did well and there's some of that that gets funded less well right it's like you know if what you want is to create you know like fairer Market systems and

systems that help people get like 0.2% salpage instead of 0.3 then like great I you know like walk into you know like New York or whatever and like you know there's you might get like a $45 million valuation but on the other hand if you're trying to like actually solve these identity and credential problems you know you might be looking at 45,000 right right so I think like I definitely see my goal like especially in terms of what kinds of things like I helped to coordinate and promote as being tried correct for that and you know to the extent that I you like investor like often just like donate the stuff I think I look at

things with the same with the same kind of mindset right that's like what is a thing that deserves to exist that like these uh automatic incentives are not going to help to bring into existence already um the um yeah so like like to me the top few categories are like actually like ZK like identity credentials and voting and like that that whole stack is uh absolutely a a really top category um the like wallet security um ecosystem is absolutely a top category I mean I think like wallets are able to do a lot of

things on their own right but at the same time I think there's like need for this sort of ecosystem wide stuff to happen like with uh social recovery for example like that whole concept becomes much stronger if there's like this very standardized ecosystem of Guardians and like a very easy way to you like choose some particular person to be a guardian or even like Z email or even like a z you know like rapper of a a government idea or or whatever else to be a guardian um so thing things that are like that uh Bas like that's how I would uh describe my own priorities at this point all right thank you uh basically two qu two questions uh

first one is that uh do you have any idea uh running uh organization like uh Edon uh Devon and ECC even have on fully on chain uh I realize that uh I'm always recommending many our blockchain organization Japan like uh jcba and the know jcba and you know there are so many kind of uh Corporation or know organization in Japan and none of them are using our no smart contract to manage their uh organization and it's really are good use cases of eum to to runer these kind of the political organization or yeah kind of managing or

Organization for on chain and the second one is that do you do you have any idea announcing the stage two etherum uh later do parts of etherum from E eum Foundation pleas do yeah I mean I think uh regarding doing more stuff on chain I think uh the layer that we've that there's already been a lot of work starting to do with onchain I think is like ticketing right because uh like I mean I think Devcon and like most ethereum events already like accept crypto for payment uh but then like the thing that I would want to see is I would want to see like a full pipeline where you know you pay and then you pay

by sending to a Smart contract and then you you just like you can just use like a z knowledge proof and even just like of the me know like the onchain log of yourself getting a ticket or yourself having the the nft and like that ends up like you know directly hooking into zass and like everything can happen without even needing a server in the middle right so like it would be really cool if we can like kind of you know like full stack that whole side of things and then you know like if you need something like discounts then like even like process that through like all of these uh credential uh based systems um so that's like one uh area where I think we could uh dog food

more there the like actual level of uh organization um this uh I me this gets into this topic of like can we actually use onchain Dows for more for more stuff um which uh I like I'm definitely supportive of uh more of more people trying to do that um I think I mean we we we have had like various like multisig and Dows and related onchain things for quite a while now I think the place the the thing that uh I would look at uh right now are basically like what

are specific things that we could um like organized that could like actually get some really valuable transparency benefits out of doing something like that um right so like I think I think there even have been at least a couple of situations where you know there have been Unchained Dows that were doing different things and then they got accused of scamming and they actually managed to like you know like say like hey you know here's the full list of like stuff that we've received and stuff that we've sent to and like look it's like provable that we're doing everything fine um so it's um like it it feels like there's still a user experience Challenge on that side of things a third side of things is like

using onchain tool for just like communication um and like online collaboration and um like that whole side of things I think on that side it's a ux issue um but I think the nice thing about ux issues is that they're slowly like they're actually not even slowly they're like pretty getting pretty quickly getting better but from I like every year to the next year um so I think uh we definitely do need to you know revisit each of those areas and see like is the level of ux of like any one particular area like actually good enough that people would actually like be willing to switch over and like not get frustrated and move

back after a month and like if it is then we should take the jump thanks for answering for the answering the first question and the second question was that uh do you have any idea announcing the stage to orer do other no parts of theum to to let the people recognize our no state is State layer to our kind of parts of serum not their separated CH sorry stage two as in like like stage two stage two later two is like I mean so right now we have like arbitr optimism that are stage one and then like Fuel and a couple of others that are stage two right like you're you're

talking about those or I know due to their uh no Al bit I recognize some of them are no are are yeah there are some are stay do do right now but you know it's you know even in the future do you have any idea or know to do that or to let people recognize or no oh yeah like like basically how to better like help projects that get to that level of security actually get the recognition that they deserve yeah I think uh I mean the fact facts that l2b just exists at all is I like the first step right and like

having that source of common knowledge is uh really valuable I think uh the next uh step like I think uh you know like organizations across the ecosystem um you know like including um you know like defc and conferences um and including wallets and applications um all have a lot a lot where they could contribute in terms of uh you know like recognizing and prioritizing those kinds of ler twos right um so that like includes you know like which like ler toos you're accepting payments on it uh it includes I mean like if you're a wallet like how do you present to a user like what kind of network um a

particular network is it uh includes like making like that information just uh easily available to application developers like I don't think there's any one solution there I think it's of those things where like every ecosystem actor has like some level of role to play thanks so much all right last last question from Devin thank you so in the scope of uh consumer applications uh Beyond rwas uh what do you see as the top tools or behaviors in e-commerce brand um should be looking at to to innovate the e-commerce land the e-commerce uh uh

landscape yeah right H it's a yeah interesting question I mean I think like like trying to play catchup with like an existing web like form factor that's already in web 2 is like generally not a path to success for a web 3 application right and so like I think the most successful applications that we've seen are applications that like actually try to Leap Frog in some way right um so like poly Market was like providing something that like didn't even exist before like foraster like it's not just Twitter plus decentralization idealism it's like they actually you know there's like actual

value from the different multiple clients like they actually have channels they actually have uh like frames and all of these different features that that that they're experimenting with I mean if uh some of me like these uh under collateralized like loan applications like they'll probably get enable a class of people to get loans that were just either not able to get them before or that were only able to get them at like 19% interest rates and like they sorry and like they might be able to get 8% or whatever instead right and that's like know like a really big Boon for

them and then it'll probably keep going down further so in the case of Ecommerce I guess the question question that I would ask is like what's the like very pragmatic consumer benefit that you're giving I like at least uh some particular subset of users and like really uh go hard on that and like try to start from there can can I ask one last very quick very fun question okay you and then you had your hand up for a while like 15c question may I present you a gift from noun H sorry can I give you a gift from noun can I can you give me a gift from down sure then you have to give a gift to everyone is that okay okay and then

async while you're going what's your question yeah I just want to ask so since we already have a million l2s right now and the reality is like we have like it seems like we have infinite supply of block spaces but no demand actually because we've been seeing some of the large l2s only have single digit daily active users what what would be what would you think that would be the you know the directions that those l2s should go to basically have those like block space be demanded by users yeah I mean I I think like I've always predicted that l2s would have this like this like VAR lopsided distribution right where I like

some of them would be pretty successful and then lots of them would have a hard time getting like 10 people looking at them because like that's also true for websites right that's like true for companies that's uh I probably it's also true for operating systems it's uh it's true for anything right I think I mean I'm more optimistic in terms of the level of usage that we have right because like even if you look at pretty simple metrics I know the the ethereum verse I including the different L2 is like up to a few hundred TPS now right and from what I've seen it's just continuing to go up um so I think the Big Challenge now is basically just continuing to make new CL get new classes of uh

applications that are actually successful and then when those applications are successful the uh L2 that those applications uh are on is also going to be successful great thank you a thank you vitalic for those who are [Applause] wondering uh the other lovely lady over here her name is sh way from the etherum foundation R&D team yeah know I actually appreciate you know the work that you guys doing like trying to make the whole like be you know like both public goodsy and be like fun at the same time like we need more

of that yeah thank [Applause] you all right uh yeah um so thank you for being part of the etherum Quorum thank you a thank you vitalic um this has been a treat so and tomorrow uh is going to we're going to change venues is going to be at yoyogi 2 uh the shabuya national gymnasium uh where the Olympics happened in 1964 so that's a very historic building but uh gray lineup kickass program what happened Oh I thought it was me all right

wow great uh I don't even know what to say uh what was I saying oics um so I know you guys are going to go out uh there is no morning program get there early uh doors open I think at 11 our program starts at 12:30 kiske Honda one of the most famous soccer players of Japan will be the first program uh yeah and um obviously Tuesday that is a big one one uh you guys won't want to miss that lot of fun a lot of fun a lot of surprises thank you to you too Sai and the team involved in hosting this over here thank you thank you guys thank you guys for [Applause]

coming oh you want to take a photo yeah we can do a group photo sure let's gather where dead mle everyone e e
