DAPPCON 2024: Exploring The Validator Universe For Gnosis Chain - A.Ercan, S.Buergel & C.Garcia
DappCon 2024 · May 2024 · 57:19
A. Ercan, S. Buergel, and C. Garcia explore the validator landscape on Gnosis Chain at DappCon 2024. Gnosis Chain is an Ethereum-compatible, proof-of-stake network secured by its own set of validators, with a consensus design similar to Ethereum's own proof-of-stake system.

thanks for the participation this panel uh my name is Arman May firstly introduce yourself um my name is Arman I do a communication validator communication at the nosis chain uh my name is Chey I am Community manager for dno hi and I'm Sebastian founder of Hopper working on privacy yeah today I'm going to talk about uh exploring the validator universe for nosis chain and and of this uh discussion uh we will announce a ruffle result for the the winner of the D okay let's start we have I have four
uh topics uh firstly I'll try to uh we will try to understand our nosis chain fundamentals and then what you can do as a note operator and our current developments and ongoing works and we will talk about some challenges so who I am I do a validator comps at the nosis chain uh my main goals is on boarding more soloers on nosis chain and also try to breach between Cordes and infr team and also Community the whole intersection uh I also try to improve the tools we have for increasing more accessibility to on boarding more solar
sters and also continue to support uh well Community for Network Health with my chewy also is helped me for this purpose so our fundamentals nosis chain we have a beacon chain uh we have a dual Tok model X for the gas g for the staking and the governance um we have 5 Seconds block speed um we have same uh hard Fork timeline with the ethereum uh because we have a bon chain and we did a chaella we passed the Danon and the the next hardw work is a pectra they it's planning on
the at the end of the year uh also we work with the same clients with ethereum on execution site execution layer site uh we have nethermind Aragon and G G is still on the on boarding process we have some housekeeping Works uh probably uh you can you can use a g as a execution layer client and end of the summer and also on the consensus layer side we have teu lar Lighthouse and nimus so it's really important to have a client diversity on the NOS chain um we try to onboard more and more clients uh for the uh Improvement to
diversity so another fundamentals uh things is that you can run a note with a just a one gnoo uh it is super important to have uh low low requirements for the onboarding morola Stiers uh and also you can run a note on small Arm based mini computer dep note or own device um I would recommend dep note or if you want to collect the on the market and uh the devices of course you can run a not and the bandwidth site um you need a more than 30 megabits for the running effective uh note and also you need
around two or two terabytes of data per month for the the the healthy way to run a not and efficiency if you around if you have around 96 or 97% it's good not too bad but if you have a 92 or 93% you need to improve your uh uh improve your uh running operation because it's not a good efficiency on ethereum side uh most to 97 or 98% is good on nois chain side 97 98 is is a little bit same but uh the effectivenesses depends on a little bit
around the our block speed so yeah I would like to give some uh numbers about our chain uh we have more than 2 uh 16,000 uh active validators and also we have uh 1,700 uh active nodes individually um we have more than 70 countries where we have active nodes so we should improve this numbers especially number of individual nodes um we try we try to onboard more solar stickers that's why and
yeah we want to work with especially solar sters and DS like claros running a not on no chain hotk also running not on nosis chain which is nice and also we want to work with collectives such as one high is a one of the oldest Collective on nosis chain they are still continue on the uh noes uh running a noes and and also we have SE latam AC EOP and ather Mexico we tried to uh we try to onboard more solar stickers for the amplifying and the expressing the the our uh culture and our I think the uh
our cultural values is really really fixed the fit the the the whole uh the whole collectives individuals and the the rather than a the institutional perspective so you can see the the our current number of notes and all over the world uh morly is the Western countries but we tried to ort more soltic espcially in latam and Southeast Asia and the Middle East um yeah fundament I'm I will go to the fundamentals um we have a strong relationship with with the dep node uh when the beacon nosis beacon chain launch uh we started the campaign with
the dep mod and we onboarded more than a 500 what are they not on on the no chain and also we have a strong Community collaboration in terms of uh supporting uh helping the the validators those who want to want to join in the note join in a running a note on nosis chain so on the dis mainly working on Discord site and also we have a successful campaigns uh we started the new campaign 10 days ago sorry 10 days ago and with the new campaign we will give a three gno an online purchase and or if you want to buy in here we will give a
4go so it's a really nice opportunity to uh starting a uh not operational nois chain maybe uh in in this slide we can talk about the our uh home Solo or remote stakers who who are they and what is the the what they are representing mainly we we uh we as I said before we on board lots of dep not users uh currently more than a 400 individuals uh running a note with a dep note so which is representing around 20 20 23% individuals so it's quite a nice number but we should
improve this number uh on for onboarding more validators uh when we investigating the and researching the the this uh individuals they have one or 10 validators on nosis chain so it is quite a small numbers but they are still contined to validating uh on nosis chain which is super nice uh not uh I think this the the this is a this is representing a horizontal diverse for the all the not operation uh which is super nice maybe you can say something about the um yeah so we uh atap Note have been uh supporters of uh nosis
chain from an early stage um this uh partnership that we have going on at the moment is the second partnership we that we have with uh nosis chain and we are very proud uh to have uh these numbers which are are great for the decentralization of the network and there is an estimate of um self-reported uh dap notes um that represent uh 10% of all of the validators in in nosis chain so uh taking an account that um uh if we take it at an individual level and we talk about 1.5
1.7k uh active nodes um this makes uh for 23% of the individuals that validate in nosis chain are running dap node so we are very very proud to be uh supportive because um uh the common profile of this uh user is non- technical so so yeah as as you may uh expect we take a lot of Pride when uh non-technical users find their way to um support the support the network as they have been yeah the representing our uh 23% of individuals in the whole network is quite a nice number uh but yeah we
should get definitely improved with the the with this new campaign this this device uh okay what you can do as an aut operator on no chain let's talk about little bit this topics you can do of course you have a some task uh if you have a note operation you can produce a block as a vanilla block producer uh the basic task is the I think is the most important task for the the every every not operator uh you can build a Blog and earn a rewards APR around 133% right now uh we have dual token model and the on the consensus layer rewards you you get
gno for the reward and which is attestation rewards sing committee rewards and block proposal rewards on the execution layer side you can get X for the the fee transaction fees so is the basic task stter run a not and build a block as a vanilla block producer and maybe to add here uh from somebody who who runs a validator so it's a bit a lottery and this is I think kind of fun so producing a block obviously your note does you don't have to do it right but if you run one validator that happens only every one to two months or so and you don't exactly know how much you get
right so I've seen some blocks where people earned actually quite a lot in fees maybe somebody made some mistake or something so it's pretty funny like one morning you wake up and there's like you know 50 bucks you earned for overnight and uh yeah then a couple of weeks something doesn't happen yeah yeah exactly I remember the the when the in inscription attack on the nosis Chain side yeah the some of the validators got some really nice number of the of course symbolic numbers maybe 10 10 x day but is a is it's it's giving a nice uh inside for the if nois chain grows the execution there also grows also the fee Market also grows uh yeah the the opportunities and
more uh in this slide I try to uh explain if you run a note on nosis chain after the block producer the vanilla block producing um there there is a there are some opportunities to have uh we introduced the nosis 3.0 vision and this Vision uh includes a lot of payment focused consumer app development uh nosis pay metry circles and uh the the the vision is focusing on the the payment so the all the payment uh deps working on on the nosis Chain so which means we have we will have we will
expect more transaction we also we expect more blocks uh which means also the the it's is linked to the fee market so the basic motivation is secure payment Network as a not operator and earn rewards is a quite a nice um we have uh working on with working with the shutter team uh shutter team nethermind team and nosis chain chain team team are building a shutterz noce chain um shutter team also here uh maybe they can they can say something about the the whole and lric is here about the what
they are building on the nosis Chain what they are expecting and the what is the what is the next step yeah if you have any microphone uh hey everyone my name is Lauren uh I'm with shutter Network and shutter network is basic basically an encryption protocol which promotes Bas layer neutrality information Symmetry and accessibility and in this particular context um we're working with nosis chain and nethermind on shuttered uh chiato test net uh which is actually uh
went live yesterday and we'll have a workshop on it tomorrow but then in about four weeks or five weeks you'll actually have shuttered nosis chain main net and what that will do is introduce uh encrypted M Pools to nosis chain and that will mean that end users are protected from malicious me like front running and sandwich attacks while still allowing for benign me like Arbitrage and it will also uh protect them against censorship so this is um done in a decentralized way uh using a decentralized keeper set
and as I mentioned uh my colleague Yanik will be doing a workshop here tomorrow uh so if you'd like to test out encrypted transactions or if you would like to register your validator uh you can do that tomorrow thank you thank you yeah uh as L mentioned uh if you if you curious about more details uh Yanik we'll give a presentation tomorrow um yeah another good option is liquid staking with the Stak stake wise version 3 uh we will expect to uh launch end of the this month or early June uh
the the whole uh contract is auditing right now and um what you can do with the Stak wise version 3 you can you can start your own VA on the stake wise so uh with the with the with this way starting a own world you can uh like if you're a collective if you're a small number of friends if you have any any uh really small uh Community you can start the own Vault on the St wise and both uh collecting some Rewards from the stake wise and also collecting from the the nosis chain consensus so it's a nice opportunity to if you're curious about
if you if you want to on board uh if you want to earn more uh money from the the protocols upcoming developments of course we have uh really nice developments and nois VIP uh we we discussed at The Forum no VIP and it's passed right now uh we we Tred to onboard around 500 uh ho not operators into the nosis chain so maybe you can talk you can say something so I have a talk where tomorrow at 11: where I go in depth but the tldr is we're building a
VPN that works just like a normal VPN that you might be familiar with in an much more private fashion and actually decentralized and running obviously on top of nosis chain and part of that proposal was there's people who run Hopper nodes and if you run a hopper node that you know is powering this data relaying under the hood um then you also get to run a nosis uh validator so you get one gno free of charge which I find very cool um so yeah uh incentive to start a hopper node to then get incentivized to also run uh nosis validator uh yeah so we currently have
about 400 Hopper notes uh operational so there's still some time left to register and be part of that one yeah maybe maybe to add there so um on the hopper side we're also focusing very much on decentralization because if you think about it why care about decentralization right so well because we don't want to be like all the banks here where Five Guys behind closed door course have the say so we need to decentralize who has a say in what gets included in a block ordered and execute it that's why right and we basically have very similar issues on the Privacy side if you relay data who do you trust well you don't
want to trust one individual or one Corporation and yeah so that network is relatively decentralized and that's why we thought this would be a pretty cool opportunity to onboard another Network which is already kind of decentralized although much much smaller than the nosis chain and bring those folks to also run nosis validators most of which also on D note of course so I think this one here I think you haven't shown it yet it's a very nice one uh there's also another one hopper node which is also you can you can get through uh dub node ours is a blue lid this one has a very cool white green yeah um yeah it's also quite a nice history uh first we ask the the we we prepare
some example design for the boxes and the the lids and then we haven't decided which one is good let's and then let's ask the community we started the survey design survey for the for the this device and then the community select some nice design and then we print out the all all things so it's a really good uh representing like Community owned Network and they are they are select the own design and we did the end of the story so yeah uh the another good upcoming developments is pectra and max effective balance it's
planning end of the year um yesterday uh Philip mentioned about the whole details and if you want to learn about how the effects on Petra in max effective bance on nosis chain please check it out the the yesterday discussions on the no CH YouTube channel um another update is obal DVT as you know about doing a U cluster on the etherum and holeski site we also want to onboard obal DVT cluster distributed validator cluster on no chain uh we try to uh first the obal team want to test it on NOS chain
because it's different the ethereum one we have a 5sec look speed so uh after the testing propose uh they will uh share some reports about the testing result and then we decide yes it's good or bad uh we firstly we will test with the eight different entities eight different professional not operators which is include claros Skateway uh some other names uh and then the the second step is is the the we if we get some proper results for after the testing we want to onboard more permissionless uh what note operators especially in the
Solar stakers uh with the using a DVT cluster yeah DVT cluster is um is giving a two different two nice options to the solo stakers one is the of course economically and the second one is a security layer if you if you have having any confidence with the running a note you can you can participate in the DVT cluster and uh delegate your uh delegate your some uh energy and some uh develops time to the professional not operators so it's which is a nice um um just to uh add something in this in this part of uh the DVT this is
especially important um when when we talk about efforts to uh expand the network to other uh Geographic locations uh however um some of these Geographic locations like for example in in Latin America um we have some infrastructure uh challenges um it is really cool to be a solo Staker but what happens when the lights go out or you have like some kind of problem with your ISP so this is very important for for these Geographic zones because um with DBT clusters um these communities are able to uh compete with more um high-end uh validators uh that are in in in more
developed countries and this way um not only the cluster itself is more resilient uh uh with the with the validators that it's operating but also the the network is is much better um can rely in in in these um underdeveloped Geographic locations as well yeah absolutely they agree um another one is the Aragon version three and gu uh as I mentioned uh G is expecting the the the runner end of the summer uh I think if you if you want to say something on the gas side feel free to uh I mean do we have a mic
yeah thank you um yeah so gu uh gu has has finally managed to sync the network um it's been it's been a long struggle but it's finally more or less ready it cannot produce blocks right now so I have to investigate this but I expect uh yeah it should it should be there I said end of summer maybe it's next week maybe it's December I don't know you never know but uh yeah my I I expect end of summer thank you and another one is Aron Aron shared a latest version two version latest two version two Aron last week and this is the final one the version two uh we are
expecting uh to implement the version argon version three on noses chain so yeah uh challenge uh of course everything is not good enough for the the hour uh telling is not a uh we have a we have a really uh tough challenge challenges so one of the main challenge is of course the client diversity uh is the nether mind is a super majority client right now on NOS chain so we have a Aron and we will have a guas but right now is a NE mind issue is is important uh if you run a not on nosis chain please change your uh execution L client uh is a is important
for us um uh of course we have also not diversity uh we have a lots of uh individuals and solos stakers on nosis chain but also have uh some uh big numbers big uh entities such as correspond such as Gateway such as stake wise also uh um it is creating a the centralized uh effect on the on the the whole chain so we tried to push more solar stakers push more home stakers or cooperative structures uh which is the this is the our challenge because of the running a not is it is you need you need
to time to do some uh work for example devop work every client every uh device is not a work really really smoothly sometimes you you lost your internet you lost your IPS you lost sometimes times is you lost your electricity so is you need to you need to put some efforts to running aot so more people uh don't want to do that so they delegate your token or the or giving the the entities to uh earning some rewards but uh I I encouraged more people running a note at home or uh you can run a note with your
friends it's a nice opportunity to many many the I I know some people uh running a not with uh FR home uh so if you if you don't have any proper internet connection or electricity you can use your friend's home friend's home is the best home so yeah uh the another challenge is like geolocation diversity as I mentioned as as you show the the map the most of the notes running at the Western countries especially in the Germany France Germany France Spain and the the of course us so we tried to push on board more different countries
especially latam is the the great opportunity to on board more node operators from the latam because they are highly interested in the nosis chain especially in the the other projects such as EST people uh or the D5 people really active on the on that side so if we have a people from the latam less on board as a not operator is a nice opportunity uh this is our challenge uh the the the centralization in the in terms of the geographically uh is a is a huge issue for us and another one is a lower block times
um is uh we have 5c speed and it is amplifying some bottlenecks your setup the the whole the whole devices uh configured for the especially in the for the ethereum side ethereum is a different the no chain side so it is creating some setup uh configuration you need a you need to do some configuration for your setup and for example uh some uh storage problems or some uh Effectiveness problems it's great um another challenge is a staking entity diversity as I mentioned and maybe uh on the on the not diversity side uh we
don't have lots of uh institutional staking pools or institutional staking operators on no chain side but it is potential issue for us because uh if the nosis version three if the nois three 3.0 Vision get some uh successful get get as successful and get some proper result uh the more people want to integrate on nosis chain starting to their token and get some rewards so it is potential issue for us uh we need to we need to uh create a balance between the the the the all the all the all the uh
opportunities um of course the main challenge I I think as a supporting education and tools part it is most challenge Challengers part uh because of the uh on boarding and not just buying a device or any using any um any solutions such as clouds you can buy a note but the after that uh you have you will have some uh issues the starting note like client syn or any kind of how to use your uh device uh effectively yeah dep dep not is is giving a nice uh opportunity to like a
plug and play solution but buy a dep note and use your their interface but as some of the people want to buy own device or use uh the existing device so we try to uh we try to Ed educate our uh note operators or potential note operators and we want to solve their problem uh with easy way we have a dedicated Discord channel uh but right now we we just only have um 1,70 people if you on board for example 5,000 is we need a we need a more time to educate these people or providing to
providing tools especially providing tools running uh locally it is super important things because of the oop uh uh bootn note guys uh did a tools that running a telegram uh that you can easily check the their uh validator uh performance on the telegram channel uh it's a nice to have a community contribution on the freely way because uh the beacon chain also our uh measure uh consensus layer sorry execution layer uh uh Explorer you can also check with
the with the the bacon chain but is it not it is not enough for the just the one proper solution we we need a more than a one maybe two maybe four maybe five so if you have an idea to uh build some tools on no chain side please let me know uh and of course the another huge challenge is a high coordination uh for the hard Forks uh as I mentioned uh we have same Forks that line with the uh with the ethereum uh if ethereum go to the any hard Forks we also follow
following the the steps sometimes timeline is it is not exact time for example the the the danum one we we did that two days earlier than the ethereum one but it is not a meaningful is it is it it doesn't mean to every time we push uh two days or one week before maybe after the after the next for for example Osaka or any other ones maybe we did we we will have a maybe one month I don't know uh so we need a coordination uh for the on board we need a coordination for the Network Health and it is really uh tough work for the creting coordination
especially the more solar sters many many solar stakers or uh individuals uh the the reaching out to this uh really uh messy guys because of the lot of lot of people on the discour side is a little bit messy for the uh learning some things the getting some updates from the the the what's going on the Chain uh many people just following the week the new Setter or monthly uh our uh newsetter uh I tried to send what's going on the the nosis chain site in monthly we did a survey and asked the
how where they can find uh update from the NOS chain site many people they don't follow the telegram or Discord or any kind of social media channels they just only following the maybe updating at just the one month uh so it's really hard to coordinate with these people uh yeah it's easy one uh easy to easy to starting a not but the tough one is a coordination between these people um yeah uh maybe you can say something about the yeah I mean um maybe to start with some stats uh who here is running a nosis
validator right now in the room oh yeah oh wow it's a pretty good room um everyone who wasn't raising their hands so I guess actual challenges are whatever reason you have to not raise your hand and and I would say it's broadly I see three things I see technical economical and kind of cultural so my answers will be around these three so technical is kind of clear right what do I do like where do I start so I would say I'm running three of these boxes at home and uh maybe something that isn't so clear is D note is not you don't have to buy that device maybe you have some device at home so I had some other device at home and what
you can do is you just basically prepare USB STI and you plug it into some old computer that you have you switch it off you switch it on you don't attach a keyboard you don't attach a monitor nothing you wait 20 minutes and D note is running there it's magic good job I would say one round of applause for that [Music] note yeah so so yeah a lot of people um kind of like hesitate when they see that oh I need to get you know like a Mini PC or I need to get like a dedicated Hardware um this might be true like in a more like optimized um like setting but you know like if you have like an old
laptop uh just laying around or or or something like that um you can definitely use that for trying out uh dap node um if you manage to make it operational you can either keep it or um you know like it is your own experience uh as a user um the one that is going to dictate like where do you want to go next so regarding this I would encourage you to um go to the DB node side um we have two flavors of D node we have uh Hardware that you can buy or you can just download the software and Flash the iso to a USB uh thumb drive and yeah that's it uh just like Seas so I would say that's that's pretty
easy um on the other hand of course you have to have that um Hardware available and that's maybe the second Point economically right so you have to especially if you want to run a um an archive note which can tell you how much money did you have at some point in the past some people say that's not so important uh I'm a bit a maximalist I would say you know archive note is the values that we have to uphold everyone has to be able at all times to be able to run an archive note at home that's you know my stance on the Spectrum um so when you do that for main ethereum you need to purchase um an 8 tab Drive which is literally the biggest like nvme you
can Dy buy right now on Amazon they currently can get them for $900 that's not cheap right so there we come to this economic side so um yeah you as a validator want to make money right and what we're battling as home validators is we're fighting against economies of scale against corporations which can afford to run machines in the cheapest Computing Center is because they don't run one machine like you do but a thousand surprisingly or not they get a better price than we do for electricity for internet connection for hardware for everything right and this is like kind of this constant struggle that we have here and that's why I think it's really cool to see these incentives with nosis chain because believe it or not these
they don't get 4G for every single machine they spin up on AWS so that's great so uh you know uh competing with economies of here um yeah at the same time so this is there there's a bunch of contributions to that um for example you might think okay what if I up right so I know um for example in ethereum mb it's really scary 32 e that's 100K most places on the planet you can buy yourself a very very very nice house for that so you put that on a box to run a validator to secure a blockchain well that's tough right so even if you do have 100K and you don't want to buy yourself a house and want a secure
blockchain I would recommend start on nosis chain and you know take it as a test drive currently costs like 350 300400 I don't even know what G know is a dollar to um run a validator it's a it's a good way to get started and then there's this concern that some people have what if you know my cat just bites the cable and my note goes offline do I lose all my money right and the answer is no you don't actually ethereum is kind of cool there because ethereum said well you lose money when your not is offline but how bad is it well in ethereum it's roughly and and no kind of the same you lose about as much as you would earn on a day where you were
online in average now what does that mean right worst case scenario Germany right so German people have infinite holidays right you have six weeks of holidays or something worst case scenario you take your 6 weeks summer vacation and your freaking DB node goes offline the day you leave your 6 weeks offline so 6 weeks is roughly 10% of the year so 10% of the year you lose some money so there this inactivity leaks but actually that is about the same what you would pay for some professional staking service provider they typically charge you 20% right so twice the 10 10% so even in the worst case scenario you're
offline for 10% of the year you don't pay more than you pay to a professional staking service provider which rips you off of 20% of the fees and you have somebody else taking care of your note right so that's actually pretty cool right and that's something that you know the the whole ethereum ecosystem and the people who researched these incentives uh I really value and appreciate to you know enable us cabs to do that and really again compete with uh economies of scale there's somebody who knows much more about that than me yeah I'm just saying if you have a nice neighbor that would uh you know go into your home and reboot your server for you U yeah just saying if U it's even cheaper if you have a nice neighbor that will accept
not necessarily knowing what they're doing uh to unplug your computer and plug it back in yeah we have another recommendation from the past or question or something so I don't live anywhere the the homeless AKA digital Nomad um so I stake from other people's homes and I don't have them do anything I just install tail scale and I have uh a smart plug so I can do everything from home I can reboot it from home I can do a hard reboot I can SSH into it and tail scale is a super like non-technical installation it's pretty much a one-click installation that's it we we have an other comment over here
so in in the meantime uh that's a very sophisticated uh uh opportunity okay I I have I have I'm using at home I'm in a similar situation as you are I'm using the Cheapo version so on Amazon or wherever you can buy yourself for basically 5 a thing like a clock that runs for seven days and switches off your machine like very briefly and then switches it on again because you can you know set up your D that it auto boots when it when the power reconnects which which is very cool so yeah that's the that's the ultimate lowtech version of exactly that but your setup is certainly more fancy there right uh yeah just about tail skill because this is also what I use um I had the story this weekend sorry last week so I was in Kya
for some interrupt and my cable uh like my ethernet cable that connects my uh my dno to my router actually fell off like the the cliping thing was was broken fell off under the gravity and I was trying to connect with tail scale nothing happened I asked my neighbor to go and reboot the the server nothing happened uh so that was a fairly stressful moment but uh yeah just uh Pro tip get a proper us like U ethernal keybard nice so yeah I would say there's there's a there's a bunch of things that you know really are being taken care of um to make it nice and even again in worst
case like there's not too much the one thing you really shouldn't up is when setting it up so when it's setting up your validator there's a uh there's a wizard to do that you have a withdrawal address to which you can withdraw your funds please back that up I think people focus too much in the space on wallets and Hardware wallets and stuff I think put much more attention on the backup of that on the pneumonic of that because if your Hardware wallet Burns it doesn't really matter if you have a secure pneumonic backed up somewhere in a secure place so I would say focus on that um to secure things um yeah um also as the ecosystem keeps uh expanding you were just uh mentioning an example of of you know like a staking service but um there are
some pretty cool things like being developed right now like like Stak wise vaults for example so you can actually become you know like an operator and uh what's really cool is like this separation of the idea of a 32e holder or even like one g holder from an operator so you can actually become a really cool Operator just by practicing with Monopoly money on the holeski testnet it's exactly the same process as spinning up a validator on nosis chain and you can practice with that and once you feel um you know that you're doing a a cool job you can set up a trustless vault in in statewise and reach out to your friends and yeah I mean maybe they
want to you know like stake their gno or their ether in in your vault and this is a way in which you can you know like become productive by operating a node without necessarily having the the the economic resources to do so so um I I I'm I'm very bullish on this part of the of the permissionless tools because um this is going to get just easier so so yeah if you're still thinking about it become a node operator and um things will still develop um yeah maybe I I I just want to add one one last thing that's kind of cultural to me like we talk about crypto economics a lot but you know um ultimately securing a chain or securing cryptoeconomic network is
about attention right so dnot is awesome I use dnote on the on the three machines I run at home right now but ultimately let's think about you know I like to sometimes think about the end game and where would it take us let's say dnot did a perfect job and they doing a pretty damn good job right now so you take this thing you do absolutely Ely nothing you plug it in at home you never ever touch it again it just does its job it always automatically updates it always manages your funds you're just happy this ultimately adds nothing to the network why because well you know the D not nice guys are nice but if all the magic is being taken care of for you then maybe the magic is used against you
at some point so basically to me dep node uh is a fantastic thing to get started I hope that we get into more of a culture of um you know appreciating the note home noler as some people call it like nerdism and just like you know build your own setups compile your own you know death to run your run your stuff or Aragon or whatever you choose right like don't all go for the same thing this is a first step and it's a great one but keep going right keep evolving because ultimately it needs attention and I hope and I see this in nosis much more than other um you know ecosystems that I don't find as sustainable that nosis re really
Fosters this and I think this attention here shows it that we do have some attention um yeah so keep growing that ecosystem put attention on it don't let some operator turn evil we are building this kind of for worst case um consensus faults that requires worst case consensus Falls requires your attention to say hey D note that doesn't look legit that's not actually decline version we want you're trying to force us on a malicious chain or stuff like that that all requires kind of some attention of yours it's not a lot but I think this cultural shift is what blockchains really are about and I'm very proud to yeah see where NOS is going there absolutely agree um I curious about the how dep note can support the
education to not operators and providing some tools on the on the their their channels like you are organizing a educational uh YouTube series as far as I know can you oh yes yes um we recently uh published videos that we called the dno driving school so you can find those in our YouTube channel and we also have the DB node crash courses which are uh live workshops with audiences uh Q&A that we run in our Discord and so so those are really cool we those get recorded and uploaded to our YouTube so definitely check those out I think you'll uh you'll enjoy them and um we also we're in very close contact with um
the nosis chain Community we have a bridged uh uh channel in the dbot Discord and the nosis chain Discord uh so this way um we we kind of like keep the same communication you know and it's and and it's also um a great uh way to uh just store like some of the um uh like the frequent questions that we that we get around operating notes so so yeah um tools like that are are um are very like important for the education uh part of it uh and also you know like events like this events like dbon uh give us a chance to talk to you about it to get closer to uh the users um it always
really amazes me how how many people uh still believe that uh you know like if your dab node goes down if you have a power outage like you'll get slashed and this is a myth um an atest Station leak is very different from uh uh from a slashing and it's caused by very different factors uh so so it's always a great opportunity to uh talk to the community and uh you can definitely expect this same um level of communication if you uh join our communities and um yeah you you start telling us about your own experience as node Runners Arman I have a question to you where do I go if I want to get this uh
4G um D note because that sounds very good uh you can just visit the dnot booth and right now I want to uh announce the the the our ruffle winners in here uh so great okay just just a [Music] seconds hopefully not me he's running a random number generator now show the screen okay here we go yes
okay uh we don't know who is he who is he or she I don't know uh the ruffle is ended and uh if if you if you you have a this address please reach out me Reach Out us uh we will give this device with the 4go as a a special one anyone in in this room no it's the last digit it's 0x9 b2d and also this this number of tickets yeah well then it goes to Arman myy yeah who
nice um any questions if you have any questions feel free to ask uh it's the right time to talk about we have one more comment here and one there thank you for the great panel uh I know there's plans to run nosis VPN on on Hopper nodes but are there plans to run nosis VPN on dap noes huh that's a good question um come to my talk at 11: tomorrow I would say um yeah so basically uh absolutely absolutely yes so nosis VPN the clients that you will
use to actually run this will run on dep noes like other Hopper notes also absolutely yeah uh yeah I have a couple questions um don't worry it's a nice question um actually for it's kind of the same question but for three flavors of uh of each I'm going to start with you Sebastian uh you say you're uh everybody should be an archive note uh runner uh prosis chain the problem is that you have a block time of 5 Seconds which means currently you have roughly twice as okay maybe 50% more blocks in OSIS uh have you tried that fosis change yes I'm running in Aron archive node right
now oh wow and how much space does that uh on Aragon right now no chain is 1.95 uh terabyte so w okay it's not too bad it's not too bad yeah exactly on I I actually run so I bought myself this ridiculously overpriced uh nvme and so I'm actually on the same device running an archive node on mainnet which is currently around 5 tbte plus no which is almost two so it just fits yeah okay nice okay thanks uh the other question is at the beginning of the presentation you said you could also run uh something on an arm machine yeah uh so for basically for the same reason fast block time fast IO uh I wanted to ask uh you if that had been tried because I'm
curious what kind of machine and um our uh very valuable Community member hok shared their his experience uh with the with the arm machine is a super super mini uh device uh just the experimenting running a not uh I will share with you the the whole whole whole story uh and then my question because I'm a big arm fan uh like what you described about the you know plugging a stick and booting does the dep Note software support arm as a platform uh yes we have uh if you go to our um GitHub repository uh you'll find on the releases um yeah basically
like um three different um um like um isos uh you can find an attended installation if you have experience installing uh Linux it's basically a Linux installation uh you just get to customize some of its uh settings um if you don't know what I'm talking about you can try the unattended installation and it'll just happen uh and it's magic and it works great yeah and and yeah we also have uh we also have a release for uh running on uh Raspberry Pi um we have like mixed uh reports on that to be honest but if you're interested in in talking a little
bit more about um running tests or or uh similar stuff um yeah let's talk about that one more question question even without risk five just armm um we recently have an amazing team that that decided to use DB node for their own their own purposes and they're using mostly armm so we've been receiving a lot of uh pull requests fixing all the stuff in armm that didn't work so I think it works now at least they they haven't submitted any more PR so either they give up on us or it's working great for them any question or if you want to feel
free to share your experience okay thank you for the participation in this panel uh thank you [Applause]
