so both before we get started and how many of you guys here know what we chat is yeah that's a lot of people and how many of you guys have used and installed WeChat and how many of you guys use WeChat regularly you have one expert there you can I think it's now three involves a lot talking about me chat and so today in my talk I'm gonna go over some tools and resources that are
helpful for you know communicating was the Chinese community and this is this is sort of not not a philosophical reflection about what a community is or this is not like the analysis of the demo graphic composition of the Chinese crypto community it's just because and this is also not any sort of like strategic recommendation on how you should communicate with the Chinese crypto community because those are kind of largely depend on engagement to what your goal is and like what your target members are so these are this is some
tools and resources that are kind of necessary and when when if if you want to communicate with the Chinese community regardless of what your goal is alright so I started so how my involvement started with the crypto community is that I had some friends and they were into the hiriam and at the time right around when the etherium main that was launched they wanted to talk about atheria mod and all the good stuff but they couldn't find a place right the fact then there was 8 bit that's a
Chinese forum it mainly focuses on Bitcoin so when they talked about aetherium like people weren't happy so basically we'll build Ethan that's basically we started out as a forum and as a place for people who are interested in theorem to talk about you know if you're game you let it stop and then that was that was back in 2015 and then later on as some of you may know to have con to happen in Shanghai that was in 2016 September so as kind of the only ëthere iam community in China back then we got involved was like organizing and
promoting and unkind of helping was logistics for DEFCON 2 and later on eutherian foundation in in helping three and then in between our community its fans basically to use these are just some projects we need help infuse to China that's that basic Turkey notice white paper and help them do the fundraising and status I think July of 2017 one of
my Chinese from the Hearing Foundation at nervous and this is sort of hello-o to quote alright thanks this is this is sort of our if I guess a history our community history soapy she'll is there first maybe and only open-source exchange architect it's still available on github but nobody like maintains that anymore that's basically developed by my
colleague Jen and then later later on it got evolved into one of the largest exchange is called wimpy so it got shut down in 2017 September but but prior to to the ban it was the largest it became the largest exchange because it was only Exchange listed ether at the time so a lot of trading volume from 2017 and later on the group the technical group basically left even be and founded its fans and crypt ape and I am token suddenly some of you guys might know the
wallet it's it's the largest etherium mobile wallet it has about 8 million active users I think and this is and its fans later on I guess evolved out of bounds its Sparkle its and also some of of you guys might know it's the largest aetherium mining pool and also they we might mind some other tokens now and crypt cave is used to be or is still is a member of a theorem enterprise alliance and the prior product was a
permissioned Ledger's product and later on it out of the crypt a evolved nerville's which is a public permission list watching I'm gonna play you guys a video it's this video it's five minutes long but basically captures what we chat is and I'm pretty awesome way so that saves me a lot of I guess efforts the sound is not working I was told so I'm gonna do this imagine an app that replaces your credit card to
Facebook uber tinder and Amazon that's WeChat in China with over a billion active if you were sitting in the United States or Europe right now I never used to Chinese app the reality is sorry about that maybe I'll just talk
about it so a lot of you guys know what a chat is and it's kind of this gigantic closed and self-contained ecosystem it has its own basically I guess the main point I want I want to get across is it's it's pretty closed and it's self contained so that a lot of people like don't even a daily like an average don't even need to like go outside of the app that much right it's um you can buy things from each ad and
then you can order I'm not sure if you can order food but I'm but you can pay using a chat and everything so that's for better or ORS it's a very important tool and just kind of absolutely you cannot get around it when when if you want to communicate with the chain [Music] so we chat is is a very important is a
very important tool and the thing about WeChat is it has a group function and the maximum number of people you can put in the group is 500 and it's not discoverable through Google and also another very important communication tool for within WeChat is WeChat publication so basically each ant has this thing where it's very difficult for people to transmit links and to kind of import outside it's basically not very interoperable with with any other apps
or web services so it's very important to to to put that into consideration when you come when you're trying to communicate with the Chinese community and sort of work work around that when one of the most important tool could be for like just might how come the slightest always one second just a cheap 30-second
listening great so this is this is a survey of how moments it's basically like your your Facebook Facebook moments are they called moment stories yeah that's that's Snuppy share basically in messaging and that's we chopped publication it's basically like you subscribe to two publications and they can push out articles daily to you and that's so over
about 40% of the people surveyed here use their WeChat publication daily and it's a very important way to circulate whatever information you're trying to communicate because it's that easy it's easiest within the WeChat ecosystem to share through reshot publication like the moment and reach out publications are sort of linked because you can kind of only share articles in WeChat publication easily through moments in other like hyperlink is not so share in moments so that that's why it's very
important to sort of have your to understand what reach a publication is and understand what we chat is like and this next slide is basically tells you how to open a WeChat publication and the short answer is no like oversea entities just cannot open a publication you kind of have to have a business license from a Chinese entity in water shown to all but want to be kind of sort of have to figure out a way if you want to
communicate with what the Chinese community it's sort of like essential and necessary to have your reach out group so we checked publications and then you have to register WeChat and then as over the entities you can't really do that so you kind of have to figure out [Music] this is a - for events so considering considering like the firewall and like meetups an event right there they're not really that popular in China and when you organize event this is this is the web service you're gonna want to use
this is their webpage unfortunately it's also not available in English so that's that's not very friendly I guess I guess the takeaway is the takeaway is like hire somebody who knows Chinese that's so to summarize these are some tool for your communication and that's your I guess general on the top is your like English prefer addressing the english-speaking world like for general it's synchronous discussion telegram and
then for more technical stuff perhaps lack asynchronous you use Twitter reddit and technical things you use forum but then for this is on the lower your your Chinese counterpart for general and synchronous communication suite chat for technical synchronous stuff I've been trying to figure out what's a good way to like sort of yeah yeah sure I like he's talking about a Enterprise enterprise like software / app for work more so I guess for like a
community-driven just technical I haven't really discovered any good tools I've been sort of trying to facilitate technical discussions but they sort of just naturally also happening we chat and for general and asynchronous discussions it's the I guess most predominantly it happens also in the chat publications and as I mentioned before fans is a forum so we've been trying to drive technical discussion asynchronous technical
discussions on forum without much success so that's not all so I guess people are not used to they don't use laptops anymore I guess so this is this is some resources so for these are these are community resources so if you would like to host an event or get some connection with the Chinese community these are some communities I recommend technical and chain specific so is fans as I mentioned it's like the etherium specific community and chain X
they translated the polka dot white paper and their community is focused on polka dot yes and here we have a representative sitting right there and for mining communities these are mining pools miners are fairly distributed and they they don't really communicate with other like crypto communities so the best way if somebody wants to reach the mining community would be through mining poles they know with where the miners are and they kind of form this personal relationship with their miners and these are two two big
mining pools and and yell and firfer investors this is an area I am fairly unfamiliar with but be who is I know for sure they run an app basically it's acute it's like a portfolio curation app and it has its extensive user base and some other communities that I forgot to be included here include like wallets right obviously wallets they have users and they organize events and they also push out contents to I guess some to make their community more room more sticky so
it's they also address their community so wallets would also be a good way to sort of tap into the communities and this is uh this is some newsletters ah no real a really none do you guys subscribe to really no it's yes Chris yes this is a newsletter if focus on curating events and it started in San Francisco and it has several chapters Berlin Singapore Hong Kong Seoul mainland China and some other places yeah so that's really known it has a lot of
subscribers and curates events happening around different places and technical technical newsletter there's and no one it's called Rustom blockchain it started by my colleague Amy she curates the newsletter and it's Co curated by one of the the rust core team member it's a fairly high quality technical newsletter so if you guys are into rust and into blockchain check it out and Jennifer for like general news and things happening I really recommend coin Global Research
it's curated by my friend she she's mom she's into crypto and grad just started this coin Global Research that's our main job just and this is I guess if you guys have a go over and do you need ups these are some venue resources I recommend so I guess this presentation is not meant to be entertaining it's just kind of informative and if you guys download my slides I hope hopefully
finding information helpful and okay that's I guess the end of it because we couldn't play that long long video to kill more time but um I guess he some of my insight would be the present and I know you guys are all pretty authentic but um just sometimes maybe not so present in that region it's really important I feel it's really important like being present is not like it doesn't mean going over and hosting several or like a round of meetups right you kind of have to speak the language
like be there be supportive and that's that that's very important I think one one of the better project one of the maybe most one of the most successful project besides aetherium being present is makers owl and there's there's one person one guy nice person called pen ciao do you guys know him yeah like he regularly does meetups and go to all these conferences and events around China helping from a maker doubt from project that's that's that's very helpful somebody who's technical and speak
Chinese and kind of unpowered them to she can you get with the Chinese community and ah just another another thing is like be patient and don't expect the community to have sort of any but if you're serious about meeting community then don't expect it to to kind of generate revenue
