foreign [Music] hey I'm super Fizz today is February 6 2023. I am here with my buddy Jason from college I'm Jason I'm didactic JD and I'm the new kid on the blockchain what and super Fizz is showing me all the ins and outs on chat 10. of our series uh chats with a new ethereum isn't that exciting it is we're making progress
the yeah the overview like you you have created uh we should you know we should do like an agenda for these but we're not that together but I do want to look at the educational module you talked about sure I want to follow up on on the poet that we created in episode nine that here's the terrible thing like people who watched the episode they were already gone before the episode dropped the big reveal okay yeah uh and then um I'm also curious about this National trip so I think you were gonna chat about that but whatever order okay uh well we can knock the Nashville stuff
out of the way I guess uh initially a friend of mine works uh in the training department for uh an organization and in his training department he works alongside a lot of Indus a team of instructional designers which is what uh the Educational Learning component the design of that those are the people that do that on a corporate and freelance level so I had an opportunity to meet one in person and just chat with them a little bit and talked about some of the stuff we've been working on and a couple of other components what makes somebody an attractive candidate what's it like being on the job how how what's
it like working with a team of instructional designers and they were very gracious and entertained as many of my questions as I felt that I could ask they were in the middle they were shooting a training video and so I was just sort of a fly on the wall while they uh filmed this training video and I didn't I tried not to disturb too much and mostly observe but there were a couple of breaks where I got to chat with them a little bit but it was cool some some film and video stuff which is interesting to me that was going on and she gave me a couple of good leads for some resources to help develop my skill set with some of the software but over and over again everybody I have talked to about this collaboration with you and the concept of introducing
more educational material on this everybody says you know the scalability of the Outreach is well I mean not infinite but huge potential huge potential for growth so many people need to be instructed about it and so few people are everybody says Jason if you can figure out how to help people understand this better it will be a huge huge asset and I've just heard it over and over again from so many different people so
it makes me you know I feel I feel like we're doing the right thing I have a huge responsibility of learning a lot about how to put it together how to make it good and how to effectively understand the content and that seems a good enough uh transition to what where where I'm at today which uh is realizing how far I have to go and also how frustrating a good bit of the content educational content that's out there sort of is you're right text based purely text-based content is not as accessible as visual
content and so there's definitely a need for video or screen sharing or something of that simulations scenarios something of that quality to for people to work through uh I think Tick Tock seems to be the I don't watch a lot of Tick Tock but I think Tick Tock is the guiltiest of it because you'll get these 30 second videos of I want to show you how to do this here you go here you go here you go here you go and it looks seamless uh the six or seven step thing but there are hitches in the process that you are very likely to come upon that are sort of glossed over in these in those videos yeah and uh
it just it's the couple of times I've tried to follow those not even necessarily On a cryptocurrency related thing but uh I've tried to follow those Tech instructions step by step it never well about 20 of the time it's as smooth as it appears in the video uh there are always more hitches than uh they like to they like to reveal and today was an example of that for me uh I had your friend the the rocket pool benefactor uh graciously gifted me with two rpls into my metamask wallet and that was
about three weeks ago and it's been a good three weeks for Rocket pool the it is only appreciated in value and I decided well I've got some RPL in coinbase what you're not gonna sell it are you you can't sell it no no you have to see I I just want to say the I again I rarely give trading advice the goal for holding something like that is to hold it until it crashes so hard that no one would ever touch it so your goal with that is to hold it until it's like 12 cents I'm joking yeah sarcasm detected now all I really wanted to do was move it over
to my other RPL that I had in coinbase pretty simple and well or so I thought and that's where the journey began but it it you know I can walk you through the initial problems at first we had a math at first metamask was like dude you don't have enough East to fund uh fund the fees for the transfer yeah uh I was like well can I just trans uh or I was like well can I convert the rocket pool to Ethan they're like no dude and you got it for that yeah you gotta you gotta import eth to do that and I was like okay so I took my eth uh I I could not find my old data for my old
coinbase wallet so I had to build a new one and I think I ate a loss on that I don't think it was particularly big or anything but I had to eat a loss on building a new coinbase wallet convert uh import eth from coinbase into the coinbase wallet then import it from the coinbase wallet to the metamask wallet you know you could have sent it directly to your metamask wallet right no I did not uh I'm just figuring out as I go along and then okay and dig it the first time I thought I was successfully moving it from coinbase wallet to metamask wallet I just sent it right back to coinbase so I I ate a loss on the transfer for the in the wallet and then ate another loss for the transfer
back to coinbase so then I had to transfer some more back into the wallet or so I thought so eating some more gas fees finally successfully get it into metamask and uh had enough to make the transfer to get those two rpls into my coinbase wallet and after uh some fussing around with it I was well you know what I don't know for sure I think I successfully moved the the rocket pool tokens from the coinbase wallet to coinbase although the last time I checked they weren't showing up in there which scares me because I don't know where they would have gone that's okay it can take time I
I do want to I want to take two points really quickly um yeah it is a known problem that uh if you have an erc20 token and that's what RPL is okay we have an erc20 token in a wallet that you don't have any gas that it's kind of stuck uh and ether is gas so if you don't have ether in that wallet you can't send it right um I don't know the current status of it but I do know that there is an intention or a long-term plan um to allow erc20 tokens to be used as gas I don't I don't remember how this works um maybe it's recipient pays I I forget um
at any rate let me let me not go beyond what I recall and just say it's a known problem if you have a New York I'm sure it is even if it's worth like a million dollars but you don't have any gas you're stuck okay so got that far um the second thing is I'm curious you're choosing to send from metamask to coinbase is that right yes why well initially okay then I'm gonna reneg on the original situation uh I guess it was just sort of like a test
run uh of what if I want to make a withdrawal of RPL at some point do I know do I know how to do it and it started with well you can't do it for metamask you have to move it to I think either binance or coinbase and since I do have uh some investments in in coinbase I was like okay I need to move to coinbase and I thought it had to be a wallet to Wallet transaction you can send from any ether address to any ether address the The Branding of the wallet doesn't matter um but I do want to chat for a minute about this thing called custody and I don't think we've talked about custody
before have we not at all okay so custody means who holds your coins or who owns your coins right okay you've talked about that just I don't like coinbase doesn't own the coin or I don't own the coins coinbase if you deposit your coins in coinbase now legally yes if coinbase has them you have a legal right to them but we generally regard uh cryptographic custody as more powerful than legal custody okay so uh while you have whatever two RPL at coinbase
while those are illegally yours um cryptographically they're in the possession of coinbase if coinbase were hacked if those coins were stolen if coinbase couldn't get them back to you in some way then their loss and there may be Insurance there may be some kind of legal remedy but cryptographically you're not in custody of of those funds um if you have either like something like that okay it did go through yeah it takes a while sometimes yeah if you have like metamask you have a 12 word seed phrase right no one on the planet can ever take those from you
um you you might you know tape that seed phrase to a bathroom wall and somebody's gonna then load it and take your your funds but you are the the full custodian of your funds no one can ever take them from you and that's why we always prefer um to keep those coins in self-custody rather than institutional custody I get that and the logic to that is sound but what happens if I need fiat currency from what I from what I looked at metamask can't directly facilitate that absolutely the role of coinbase is is as an exchange not as not as a bank and so so you don't
necessarily want them to hold it that's right you don't want to leave it there and um trust that it's going to be there every day now okay well then I'll pay more gas to move it all back over to Medicine I like coinbase I they're a good they're a solid company but when we talk about like fundamental principles of of cryptocurrency of ethereum yeah one of those core principles is that we as individuals have have the the ability and we should exercise the ability to be self-custodians of funds sure that'll never go away even though when you look at any marketing from any exchange they want you to leave your funds there
because while they're there they're in control of them it gives them power they have more ability more Market sway more control um and it's basically using your funds so yeah well from what I hear coinbase stock has been doing very well recently so I think I'm guessing a lot of people are buying into whatever they're pitching on some of this marketing uh or I'm I'm assuming that people are are using it in that banking uh sense of uh having them hold hold their funds for them not that that's the wisest choice or whatnot as much of a fan as I am of coinbase and I I don't say this with any negativity at all I couldn't imagine
holding stock and an exchange rather than holding what we call the underlying asset the underlying asset being ethereum in this case because the growth potential for ethereum is practically Limitless but the growth potential for an exchange it has a lot of growth potential but nowhere near the growth potential of an underlying asset yeah I hate having to use ethereum for gas uh with so much potential in in growth I feel like I'm uh you know pissing away valuable uh investment uh currency you know it's the price of using the platform it's kind of fun like yeah I
gotta pay to play I get it you know we might also get to the point where we're talking about layer twos have you heard of lawyer twos yet no I keep on hearing uh web three how does their relationship between Layer Two and web three yeah that's cool so web3 is is the overarching term for um uh for basically smart contracts on on the internet and so uh where web2 is is web one is static web pages web 2 is sort of like database backed web pages like uh live responsive web pages and web3 is smart contracts on the internet um and so uh like uniswap is a web 3
page or uh if you go to Ave or um trading rocket pull on on their site those are web 3 features or um anytime you interact with a smart contract it's a web 3 feature uh a layer two is kind of uh so to be simple ethereum is layer one it is the fees you pay to the ethereum network to use the ethereum network but there are other networks like uh optimism and arbitrum they work a lot like ethereum they settle on ethereum but they cost pennies to use they can hold a lot more transaction volume and they rely on the security of
ethereum essentially you can do 10 000 transactions on on arbitrum and then check those in to ethereum and pay pennies for it and so a lot of a lot of people who are new to the ecosystem will use a layer 2 solution because gas is you know hundredths of a penny for a transaction so the recommendation is to well I don't know I I guess I need to in the future I don't know I'm lost a little bit about no it's okay it can be confusing um so I will confess that as somebody who's done this for a long time I I live
on layer one I live on the ethereum main chain but it's very normal to find people who are interested in ethereum who live on on an L2 chain people will say well you know I do everything on arbitrant because I can afford those transactions you may choose to use arbitrary optimism or a different um layer too that we're looking for all right here's where I'm lost in lieu of use that in lieu of coinbase use that in lieu of I'm not sure what in lieu of the ethereum network if you open up metamask and you do a drop down you'll see that you can select different uh different ethereum
networks those are called um ethereum virtual machines evm or ethereum compatible chains right now you had mentioned like Solana at one point right the Lana is a different layer one it is a competing chain it works completely differently okay layer twos are ethereum based chains that uh use special cryptographic technology to make transactions cheaper they're doing okay yes anyway don't worry about that now it's just okay all right um but a scenario all right so
in retrospect so let's go back to the metamask wallet situation I want to conduct a transfer and I don't have gas money what is the most direct or the most efficient way to get gas into my metamask can I directly purchase or can I purchase eth directly into it without having to sort of leap uh hop from lily pad to Move It from coin well I guess the wallet was superb I don't know if it to get to get anything into the metamask my which which was apparently the longest way buy
it on corn base move it to the coinbase wallet move it to metamask from the coinbase wallet what's what's a more efficient way to do that the the simple thing is just to cut out the one step that is the coinbase wallet if you don't have ether so still buy it on coinbase yeah you would still I I would be stuck doing the same thing like I have I have a metamask with no ether but I have two RPL and I want to get those to coinbase so on coinbase I pay ten dollars worth of ether I send that to the metamask wallet I then use that gas to send the RPL to coinbase and I acknowledge but um it is it is the the current workflow okay well
I think there's a little bit of you know I started on that I guess about 11 30 and I probably got to the okay well I mean when I checked during this call at about 3 45 to confirm that they finally made it in there so yeah you know and I acknowledge my lack of efficiency in the process but I dedicated about four hours to moving those two RPL into that's that's the hurdle we want to to help people get over because once you get once you get your mind wrapped around it once you understand addresses and that you need ether as gas um like you spent four hours doing
something that as as an instructor instructor I would look for you to condense into 10 minutes for someone else to learn sure and a lot of it I don't think a lot of it is appreciating the theory I think I could appreciate the theory I think a lot of it was just a certain lack of familiarity the variability of interfaces the lack of familiarity with any of the various interfaces so you're having to learn to interface in a universe that still is lacking a good bit of standardization you know like if you get into a car it doesn't matter the maker model of the
car you can still sort of recognize certain fundamental tools breaks gas uh steering wheel where the turn signal is most of the there there's a certain standardization that makes it comfortable to be able to operate different vehicles and I just do not personally have that at uh at this point in the in the beginning of this can I put a positive spin on that sure um we call this being early we're all early to web three and so there are two benefits from that that you can reap the first benefit is um people need help understanding it so there's a lot of opportunity for Education the second benefit is if we're
this early you can imagine that if if the technology actually works when it becomes standardized when it does um kind of catch on then the things that we're doing now will be very valuable in the future so I agree I agree this is just the toughest part of course I've been saying this stuff for 10 years and for me it's it feels like it moves at a snail's pace um but if if I look back there has been so much growth development and improvement over the past 10 years that it it literally boggles my mind and the growth the the pace of growth is
accelerating so it's going to get better in the next 10 years nice before we're dead it'll be awesome or after we're dead you'll be awesome I don't know I'm hoping before uh I'm interested in doing a demo of sending something can I is it okay if I do that sure how do you want to do this I'm going to try and screen share a screen let me see if it works sorry I'm deciding what I'm going to choose here okay no problem so you should see my pop gallery and So for anybody who watched uh episode nine of this um Jason developed a poet uh we listed
that poet on poet checkout and we distributed 25 of them um and so I have to kind of apologize to anybody who's watching these organically because I posted that poet checkout link um and shared it with people and they were bought up before um before that was even collected so that's that before that episode even aired um but so this is the thing uh people know that I play games so if I post something people will engage with it because they know that I play games and this is how I play a game so we know that you have a poet but we can search for that on poet
Gallery poet Gallery I search for Jason here I can pull up Jason's first poet hey number nine with this and Jason and there are 25 people who hold this um and so I'm going to do some fun stuff I can download the CSV um and let's see I'm gonna so I have to confess I usually use uh Linux and I'm doing this today in Windows and I'm trying to use trying to make things as simple as possible um let me go find
so what I did I downloaded the CSV and I now have a file and I'm going to try to extract the addresses from that really easily and I found a place that will do that disperse what I intend to do is um take these addresses and send them some ether and this is kind of a neat thing that you can do to sort of give back to the people that hold your poet like hey people bought these and we're really appreciative and we didn't really want to take anything from them so since they bought your your uh co-app we're going
to send them some ether and uh using this I just looked this up and found online CSV tools and it takes the downloaded CSV and only gives me the addresses and now I'm going to take those to a site called disburse.app and I'm going to connect as super Fizz and I'm going to send ether and here's the thing where I have to do a little bit of work I entered all 25 of those addresses I think I have to actually say how much I'm going to send them oh on each line
okay so really I'm just going to copy and paste that 100 times there you go um normally I would use a more advanced tool but I'm trying to show this publicly so okay so I said I'm sending each of those addresses .005 eth and it's going to say do you want to confirm that and yep so I'm sending a total of 0.125 if to 25 addresses and let's see if I'm still connected here I don't really use metamask on Windows often not totally confident it's coming up
okay hey it's working and so what this allows me to do disperse allows me to send a little bit of ether to a lot of people at one time uh and when you were surprised that 25 people bought that before the episode airs it's because they know that I'm going to well they don't know I don't it's I'm not required to they ex they assume they predict that I'm going to um reward them for playing my game and so uh you can see now that in one
transaction I sent uh 0.005 ether to those 25 people um yeah and so that's what we call playing a Fizz game and what I really wanted to show off is how how easily how easy anyone who creates a PO app can send a little bit of value to everyone who holds their poet you could have sent them like RPL or whatever you hold um just as a way to say thank you gotcha all right so I will end that segment and where do you want to go next uh well we can look at uh that module that I worked on you want to yeah
definitely let's just if we could just stay on your screen and uh I'll just walk you through it uh from from the start [Music]
