hello i'm pete i'm here to talk about where we are going uh as a ethereum community but as a crypto community in general and in terms of like where we are actually going long term not just work to prove a stake but what happens beyond proof of stake and so what i think what's going on is that we've been building and building and but we really stop and ask ourselves why what are we doing where we are going and we don't really explain it well to the newcomers so what happens is the newcomers like they just keep coming and they get into things that are promising um you hear me well enough good enough

okay what happens is they get dragged into projects that like promise them high gains and they still don't understand what crypto is actually about and what we are doing here so every bull run there's this dilution of idealism and profit becomes more of a driving factor and overall yeah there's this devolution to the profit maximization being the main problem it's hard to make newcomers understand what we're about and uh yeah we have to ask ourselves what are we really doing like are we actually changing the world next please so i think we need we need good memes and narratives first of all in terms of uh yeah what we are doing and i'm going to go through some of them so the first

one that we kind of started with in 2016 with ethereum is the world computer which i think was a cool narrative but it's also kind of not true because ethereum is not really a computing platform like if you tried ever using it to compute something then you are incredibly rich and have a lot of time so then going on there's uh like one of the memes is ultrasound money and i think what i don't like about ultrasound money is that like we're i think the reason most of us are here rather than in bitcoin is because we see like ethereum is offering a lot more possibilities it's not just it's not just about better money but about

better whole socio-economic ecosystems and kind of like what is this ultrasound money for because it seems that what it's mainly for is for use in this grand casino where people just keep farming coins buying jpegs and like props to the people who are buying them for actually who want to support the artists and for like funding cool projects but most of the people are buying all of that for speculation or signaling and yeah there are cool uh nft projects obviously that donate uh their proceeds to public goods like the moonshot bots like project arc and yeah a bunch of others so i don't want to like

something bad about them that's all great but a lot of here a lot of it is here for not really doing much useful and then we go from d gen to region and i like this meme because it kind of uh yeah it says the path for like proceeding from the degenerate farming and speculation to doing something meaningful but it doesn't uh try to like change human nature it more so exploits human nature and the finals the finals the process to something uh something positive like public goods and uh the ethereum is solar punk it's one of the memes that's

that i i i really vibe with and it's being pushed on recently you've probably seen it by awakie so for those who don't know solarpunk is an art movement that tries to envision the future in which the community has solved like contemporary challenges and mostly focused on sustainability so like uh climate change and solving pollution and that sort of thing and so you see like solar punk is uh i'm not moving imagining the future ethereum is technology for building the future so you can see if we combine these two that could be a pretty good idea and then we have the defeating moloch which has been a pretty popular meme in the ethereum space as

well the problem with that is that most people don't know who molok is and they are unfortunately highly unlikely to read the whole thing if you send it to them and yeah those who do know and know it from outside of meditation moloch it kind of makes them go what what what are you talking about uh yeah there's people popularizing the uh making it easier to consume wallock yeah again one of the teams is the moonshit collective with the walk in austin griffith turning into a graphic novel and there's another team with amin and others who is also turning into a graphic novel so i think that will help consume like help people understand

but the point is yeah once you understand the the moloch and you've read the meditation on the moloch you see okay so it's kind of all about coordination and we do have some pretty cool tools for coordinating in the ethereum space like from basics like rewardings taking slashing into dao frameworks that keep growing in terms of their feature sets and all the tooling around the house and it's kind of been all about d5 and it's been all about nfts and now it's finally all about daos and out of like those three obviously daos is by far what excites me the most but we're also still uh super early and

so these tools and communities that are doing these things are all over the place and in various states of development the tooling around is still pretty basic and the dow to down interactions are only now starting to become a thing and you see on the on the horizon there's things that actually work and we're getting there but not quite there yet [Music] yeah come on yeah to me it seems kind of obvious that the next step here is uh networks of dao so decentralized states decentralized uh

i don't know however we want to call them but uh beyond moving beyond the single dose because right now the focus is still very much on singular dose and we still haven't even sold that and uh like if you learn yeah so a lot of people are building these different building blocks doing different pieces of the puzzle and at metagame we just thought that we would bring all these pieces of the puzzle together but then as we started trying to do that we realized that most of the pieces don't actually exist yet and that was about two years ago and now different pieces are coming starting to come together and yeah we've been building some of these pieces ourselves but we want to

focus more on uh supporting other projects that are building these different pieces and supporting these uh inter dao initiatives for building these different pieces so some of them are the web3 profiles group that we have with the ceramic team and others and like a bunch of other organizations that are interested in having uh interoperable decentralized profiles integrated inside their depths we have skill trees which are used for mapping knowledge and sort of skill attestation systems we have the bounties protocol being resurrected by simone mark which is about sharing sharing tasks between organizations we are starting what we're calling

currently the meta library with the common stack and bloom network which is mainly about indexing all of these different knowledge resources that are currently all over the place we have places like the governors and the dia that are about researching into governance and sharing knowledge about that and yeah if you know more please let me know i would love to add them here even if they're duplicates and yeah we have all these building blocks but yeah what what do you do with all these pieces that have been that are being built all over the place and yeah if you ever tried building a dao or participating in a doubt then you know that it's kind of

just all of these pieces all over the place and it's really hard to navigate it's hard to put them together there's nothing holding them together you have to it's it's a mess it's a like a jumble of web 2 and web 3 tools trying to put it together but that doesn't really work and yeah learning how to navigate the space finding all these pieces putting them together using them it's not exactly intuitive so first of all there are already projects that are helping others to put these pieces together like the seed club or the kernel that are getting people through the through the flow of creation and showing them these different pieces

but i think we also still need something that holds all these pieces together because even after you find found all these pieces it's really hard to operate them because they're a jumble of tools that's all over the place and i think one other thing that would be useful is to map all of these resources so that's what we are building in at metagame so metagame as a concept is this the idea of using uh using external factors to affect the game or like uh moving beyond the set limits of the game or the prescribed rules of the game to affect the game and we see the game as the game of life and we are trying to build a new game of life

but it's we as encrypt obviously because yeah it's not just about us and hopefully we will be just one of many projects who are trying to put all of these pieces together into building all these building blocks together into platforms that work and coherent visions of a better future and i think what we need is yeah better visions of of uh clear revisions a better future making it easier to find these building blocks and put them together make it easier to build the building blocks and overall build uh yeah an example decentralized society and show to the world how how the society is based on crypto would uh look like

there's also kind of problems so you see with all these dollars and networks of dao is getting more more and more powerful i think we have to be careful that we're not uh recreating the patterns of the old world and that we're actually building something new because yeah the fact that we are building the societies from the ground up really gives us the chance to re-envision to use our creativity and make something better but uh right now it's yeah a lot of bad things are happening as well so yeah one of the yeah smaller examples like no matter where's game has experimented with harvard stacks the wealth inequality in crypto is worse than in the real world

most doubts are turning out to be plutocracies and yeah crypto in general is more and more money games cater to the people who are older than crypto rather than helping like outside of crypto again they're like a lot of projects who are really focused on the real world and helping there but yeah most of the crypto is just a lot of speculation and like yeah who wants to invest in local communities and economies when the apis are so low and you can get there by staking that's perverse incentives and yeah comparing crypto to the crypto market cap to gdp of countries or like putting ethereum like falls it number 30 i know it's not really good like it's dumb to make

this comparison between market cap and gdp but still i think it's worth noting that uh they're like big crypto projects so they have like a higher market cap and bigger treasuries than some of the smaller countries and i think that yeah having all this power is we should really start to take more responsibility in trying to make an impact in the real world and yeah trying to regenerate the the nature that's been destroyed prevent other catastrophes and uh obviously not be like silicon valley bros or like yeah we are changing the world when they're just making another app that's like a service app for the

privileged while the streets are literally full of and homeless people that kind of sucks and i think projects should just set some other treasury to go to public goods and yeah just try to yeah take more responsibility and uh as ethereum we are obviously the biggest ecosystem and i think we should uh show a good example but it's most people don't really care as long as the number keeps going up it's they can keep on closing into their own little bubbles both physical and virtual and not care about the real world and so the question is are we all going to make it because the

meme is you know we're all going to make it but who is we like is are we just focused on the crypto world who okay the crypto people might make it but the third world people might not make it because if we don't do anything and i think we're all in this agreement that uh this is the core infrastructure for building society of the future but we kind of i don't think we're putting in enough care to really make sure that we're building better societies not just new societies and that we're not yeah making it not recreating the same old and uh the crypto kind of started as this place where really people find the kind of meaning and inspiration with other

value-aligned people who are have these visions of building a better future which again yeah has been getting diluted in every bull market but i think it's yeah we can get back to that with all these uh dolls that are popping up and better narratives and slowly turn this uh yeah wild web into a web of opportunity so yeah let's build the future we want to live in and sort of this meme that i brought up from another presentation about metagame which is about yeah how previously revolutionizing the world created is uh was uh yeah violent and bloody with creating power vacuums and now we have the opportunity to create new systems that will slowly replace the old systems

rather than yeah doing all that crazy stuff and uh you might have seen one of these uh coasters around here that i've been planting at various locations which is the about the meta manifesto which is the manifesto that we wrote for metagame which again focuses on how we should be creating a a better game of life and this is the society and how to take some responsibility and really be autonomous find the problem you want to solve solve it and not ask for permission but yeah mainly focused on let's not just do like more profile picture nfts and more farming stuff let's try to do

something something something good yeah thank you [Applause]
