[Music] okay okay okay let's get it started that was a cool introduction I love how everyone put all on the left no one is on the right okay awesome how is everyone are you guys excited is yri is happening yeah awesome awesome awesome okay cool cool cool cool so let's get it started I have only 20 minutes I literally scrapped different slides from different things but kind of like what I want to speak about today is uh um you know building communities hard uh building resilient communities even harder and I think like what we need to think about is like we're building I'm for the past probably decade I've been building like developer communities and

actually like building sustainable programs sustainable Frameworks is is even harder right so I just want to kind of like touch a little bit on U on how kind of like my L learn my experience what I build I build all of different Frameworks I don't know how many of you guys heard about Devil's developer relations how many of you guys are even devals how many developers do we have in actually in the room H okay okay so I find tune what what I'm saying right now but long story short is that I've been I've been building Frameworks for the past like year and a half because every time that we speak about developer activation we're speaking about different things and basically applied all this knowledge building like what we call like metam snaps I don't know how many of you guys a snap today yeah all

right in general yes so right now snaps is kind of flourishing there are much more Builders there is much more things happen happening and uh that's kind of like what I want to talk about I want to touch a little bit on snap I want to give you a little bit like two Frameworks I build a full report paper and whatever I just want to show you like the the most important tldr so that after 20 minutes you don't need to read anything else and also like I want to kind of like Define what's what kind of like devl is for me what she doing what she not doing so normally like this talk is all about kind of could be developers hearing that could be Devils fellow Devils or even any any person out there they want to just earn more about how we

can build sustainable and res resilient community and and then I finish up about Builder Knight I don't know if you guys heard or being in some Builder kns but I've been running like 25 Builder knights in the past like two years so with with with consensus and and and general companies and I think like the cool things about Builder Knight is that they really became a movement they're very agnostic they're no shilly and I just want to kind of like give you an idea about what what this is all about so that's me in one of the past e Denver I actually tried be uh literally like physically a buffy corn I don't know if you guys be need Denver but it's actually a cool cyber Punk um um how do you say psychology and a lot of kind of like uh developers in the room so um

yeah I've been at mamas for for for years running developer activation for the past decade I actually started I study year in eth so this is kind of like almost my hometown I'm super happy to actually have this every year and uh and uh and yeah I've been running hackaton probably since like what 201 2010 with a company called Angela so we were organizing four aaton per weekend per continent just to try and give you like a perspective how many acons were organized and the the crazy thing was we were running this with 25 people in the team so we run almost like thousand hackaton in in in a year was it was actually quite crazy the way that we did it we actually make flourishing like ambassadors we had like an ambassador

Network so kind of like building resilient Community was always on top of my mind and building Frameworks around building uh communities was on top of my mind because then people can actually take it and and uh and and kind of like give it away so quick int round snaps um uh for anybody I mean I assume everybody's kind of like user use metamask or or general wallets you're doing different things but if you want to extend today like the functionality of what the extension does today for example interacting with like nonm chain uh doing kind of like uh um security kind of like extension could be like different kind of plugins we basically build this ecosystem of uh snaps that extend the functionality of what the extension does today there are different kind of L use case right I I put these

kind of like things here but uh inability snap is one of my favorite so right now you can install star snap BTC snap Solana snap and you literally can go non evm with literally like two clicks and then there is a lot of like other other snaps categories they're super interesting like the notification snap the security snap there is a lot of like different things also for gamer for example for batch transaction NPC Snaps are also super interesting because what you can do in a nutshell is executing multiple and B transaction and outo signin you can also delegate things we have something called uh delegation toolkit so it's part of the metamask SDK today and what delegation toolkit does is basically delegate ownership and rights to do things so there is a lot of

people right now working on delegation toolkit if you're interested to work on just let me know because we have uh we need to give out the key but the docs are are fully uh fully public right now um so kind of like snaps explained I think I I already kind of mentioned but snaps is nothing else is kind of like a siloed extension working uh completely independently and the cool thing is about snaps is that you need to actually give permission to do literally anything so it's not like uh that's like a normal plug-in in Chrome that has completely access to specific things so what Snaps are doing they're completely siloed having their own package and what you can do and this is an example this is w C is actually quite interesting snap because it's giving you um permission to

do things but also like double checking on malicious uh transaction contracts and different things so this is kind of like the experience when you're installing like a snap and literally every action that you see here is uh is displayed to you even accessing like access to the internet or accessing to private uh the srps and specific things so that's actually very interesting so you as user you're always in control but the cool interesting part is that revoking access is also super easy so you can actually revoke access any time that you want to any snap you can disst a snap deactivate a snap revoke access with SNAP so uh the cool thing is that it's fully it's fully kind of like um self self hosted okay sounds good so um three bullly points Snaps are custodial

snaps leaving your wallet and uh what what you care about which snaps to install uh is uh uh is is important for you so we are also working on customization of the wallet so like when for example in the future we will have a wallet and a b believer that we will have more personal uh personal experiences so you have uh defi heavy user a very security uh conscious uh user so you will have pre-installed snap directly uh in in your extension meaning they're kind of like almost like a native experience so the point of snaps is building a full permissionless Innovation ecosystem where developers in all the uh Community can actually build their own kind of like extension

everybody's working on their Tech tack everybody want be integrating in in something like metamask right but there is not a lot of ecosystem that actually build their own specific kind of permissionless ecosystem where you can uh build on top of things right so that's a kind of kind of like the the the history behind it so we had Dan Finley that was um that was in one of I think almost like it Denver three Denver ago was like asking how we can actually give Cosmos support and that's kind of like the idea start start it right let's build kind of addons I mean I'm don't like really calling plugin but they're basically like add-ons for the extension to basically be supportive and kind of like the idea started from Cosmos then was kind of like went into like the BTC

ecosystem and and then went through like all the Solan ecosystem and this is just for an non evm compatible snap right um this is just one category so uh why uh building so you kind of know like what's how the snaps ecosystem Flor right now there is around like 600 snaps there is like probably like two 3,000 snaps being kind of like developed on like you can see on flask that the car version so it's still developer developer focused uh but the lesson learn is that the system is flourishing but what I want to kind of like uh take here is why is extremely important building a fully independent developer ecosystem and building this kind of like

permissionless Innovation methods right so building cool technology is enough I think like especially during this uh this uh uh cycle we are seeing why is not enough right you want to build community you want to build actually like instrument for the community to actually like act and and build further by by themselves then having standard framework is something that is super important right now everybody is speaking about how we actually really reaching communities and and air drop is not enough anymore like you want to actually have more sustainable and resilient method to actually uh incentivize the community on better terms right and then obviously I'm really biased because I'm I'm doing Devils for for a long time but having actually like a strong Deval structure where you can Define boundaries with

also the other team so this is all kind of like discussion about intra Deval company and consis is a big company where 800 plus people there is different departments and uh and there is a lot of like alignment this alignment around what and what devil should do and what should not do right so it's important that you define those uh those boundaries okay so I just want to say two things on the devil side so we have obviously the technical e devil and then you have the advocacy side right my my suggested structure and I'm basically building the team since since the start is the Evangel side evangelist side and the advocate side and I love to kind of debate that please ask me question also like if you guys want to raise your hand or ask question uh feel free to to um to

ask anything so and U I ask myself for nearly like I mean quite a long time is that what actually like everybody speaking about a developer needs and I kind of came out with this kind of like framework about what actually the true builder needs so I developed this kind of like Francesco hierarchy of needs I actually like show you what what I'm thinking about so this is something that I was uh studying in in my MBA in in the States but was like okay you remember this the the psychology hierarchy of needs right and I kind of said okay let's transform this in a builder hierarchy of needs right so I kind of came out it was actually quite fun fun framework but I I actually came out with what is is necessary for Builders to be successful in their developer on

boarding journey and um and this was very interesting because it's it's a long kind of report I just want to show you the first kind of like two stag so the fourth and the fifth is the most important part so obviously you want to be present in some of those flexship akato you want to have your docs on place and you want to have your kind of basic education so we've been starting building Coes Academy back in the days when we're actually training all the new web three developer in in the space then we try to be all the time in those ecosystem events like could be globals could be like specific things and more standardized and localized uh um uh places and then access to resources is something that I think is super important because if your docks are not working if you don't have the getting

started if you don't have like some some of CLI kind of like you can actually spin up uh your your DBS and build on top of it is also kind of like a fail and then important this is an important part like the second main part is that how you can actually build a safe ecosystem where developer feel safe in some kind of like you know environment that can ask question they can do things and that's why here ecosystem Builder meetups is is super important right but I I specify here ecosystem uh Builder meetups why it's ecosystem specific because you need to be kind of like uh that's why kind of Builder Knight started because I said I'm tired for people to shielding me your my your dogs to Shield me like your technology and

you're literally doing the same things right so that was kind of like the the the lesson to learn here and uh that's what we did with Builder Knight so we build this aggregation of like uh uh developer meetups fully agnostic where we actually speak topics we started with 437 meetups we went to lay Layer Two meetups and we were getting all the top like builders in the space in the same room to debate topics to debate verticals and I will show you a little bit uh what's that about so that's one kind of like framework that I wanted to show uh this is kind of like the report I can show you like the some some link afterwards uh but uh uh but I just want to actually also like mention Web Two marketing is very different how you kind of want to reach out to like web 3

communities and how you want to on board kind of like uh General users to the kind of web three audience so and two main boxes that kind of like I I put here is that obviously you want to leverage the fact that you're working with a lot of like other ecosystem Partners you want to have them together in in those meetups you want to have them in different coactivation like could be virtual aaton ever green grants we're working a lot with like cands partner so that's actually like a cool things and then um uh relationships right you want to actually make sure that you provide a platform uh that you have developers and Builders coming to present what they're building and this example uh we we learned a lot from those those metamask Community Builder nights and metamask Community calls

today yesterday we had our our first of the year uh metamask Community calls with 25,000 peoples and was really cool because it was all online and the cool thing was um we brought ecosystem players we had a really cool chat with dun I don't know if it's around I think it's here in the conference they just launch Echo so it's fully open uh open source API for kind of like building their their D analytics dashboards uh but kind of the lesson to learn here is that Community calls we kind of like move to be a platform where developers where hackaton winners show what they're building and then basically like um uh the next part of the talk is all about okay how we are engaging those

developers when we have this kind of Builder um identified so you want to focus on education curiosity you want to build those instrument and then one one part that I think uh I need to go a little bit faster but one part is that understanding which stage devs are and how you want to engage with them so one part of the game was understanding where are uh those developers and builders in their Journey like snaps was a perfect example because we started with with beginner uh beginner developers and then we said okay actually znaps are mpm package fully JavaScript pre-build um packages and we said there are much more advanced developers that we need to Target so we went into kind of like different workshops and different

different way to engage with them and then I asked myself why everybody never understand the actually like the developer journey and the developer funnel so actually I thought about okay let's build a framework on that so I actually like uh started to think about where is the developer um kind of face and where is the funnel where you want to Target and how this is the most important part how you want to Target like when is the time basically to Shield two developers uh in in which stage right and I think uh and basically that's what the cam came came out was basically to say okay basically two main parts right you want to have a value driven on boarding so the upper part is all about value driven you want to run IR activation there are kind of like no shielding they focusing on technology

they're focusing on vertical they're bringing all the ecosystem together and then when you actually add have a sustainable and resilient Community you want to start to actually H do product specific conversion like we have for example four different product we have metamask asdk metam naaps we have all the delegation toolkits so there are different things and then as you know there is Linea in fura uh so there are actually different kind of like sub products that that we're pushing to the community and this is was actually one big lesson learn is that even content when you start doing Pro leadership content you actually go in a space that is more safe for developers to actually the topic and then you can speak about how to build your first game with metamask SDK but at the beginning you need to kind of build this critical mass

of people that are interested genely to to the community so um these are some Lon learned around kind of like developer funneling uh obviously docs is the most valuable assets for for General like uh on boarding you want to actually understanding what which part of the funnel you are and where um those developer need to kind of like be kind of targeted tared so having specific Doc Page for different levels is something that was very efficient I really like the fact and we started working a lot around examples so we built for example CLI for SDK that H that you can actually like preconfigured and having kind of pre-build apps already for developers to spin could be hackaton could be MVPs

could be on different ways and that was actually very very cool and then also one big lesson learned on snaps specific was that we use bounties for um we use Bounty at aaton for actually pushing the engineering team so we had a big engineering team we have been shipping quite quite a lot but two years ago for example we started to say okay different snaps category need different technology and we actually sit down on the year and we said okay every two months we had specific hackaton that we had to um uh to be there and then we put the bounties always every time we're kind of iterating on the Bounty and the cool thing is that tanks like the Bounty had to be ready so the engineer team also was pushed on the background and I think that was one less to learn so if kind of

like hearing that I think that's a good way also to work more closely with with the engan team to actually ship and prioritize feature because uh prioritizing feature is one of the most important part and I think like Dev people on the ground really understand prioritization and and I don't think like prioritization is really understood by PM that are not actually working with the community and are not actually in the community to argue that that stuff and sorry for the PM in the room if our guys are are doing that but it's actually true so one recommended uh lesson is like trying to be hands on on the trenches being aaton being with developers because really like you feel that you can uh um you can understand prioritization okay that's that's kind of like the last run around our

community calls right so you want to kind of highlight Community success you want to actually build a full uh Evergreen programs where hackaton winners people that getting grants people actually that do things can highlight their wins and they and and I think that's kind of the the most beautiful things that you can see yesterday we had one hakon winner from Defcon that actually presented his revoke delegation toolkit dab in front of everyone and it was like that's awesome like I wish like more people were doing in in hakon and kind of like uh fostering more kind of this um environment okay sounds good and then uh all all this about like what you want to do is building obviously like a rilan community air drops will never give you uh this opportunity obviously especially

on the user side but one things that definitely learned here is that permiss permissionless Innovation was was the key right as naaps was actually one part um one single thing is that if you want to want to replicate something like Builder Knights um that was kind of like my my three vertical so we literally started to say chield free zone you can chield you can actually speak about technology and kind of everybody's welcome like we tried to put also like panels with all the competitors together all the ecosystem to uh together that was actually amazing and then Tech Focus so you kind of Define and for Denver next we're doing a builder night on AI agents and and also like permission as kind of like 772 7715 and uh and we actually be be fun and then we put all the manifesto so for

people to understand this is a safe space that you can uh you can argue and the the reaction was immense like we run this 25 Builder nights around the globe and uh you see like super random people tweeting out I actually finally spoke about the the specific topics so there is a lot of things so I'm give me give me two sec I'm finishing here but um um snaps is the example is why also like the community is so resilient and I just want to show two QR codes so one is the directory so you can actually see what what snap is all about and how you can build a snap and uh and this is basically like a full like developer program that you actually take pre-build snaps USC wish wish Le snaps you can actually like take take this and and build on top so big shout out to eum

zich thanks so much for this 22 minutes and uh to ask questions Franchesco thank you very much hate to interrupt but unfortunately need to with the schedule really amazing what you guys doing with the developer community and I think we can still have one quick question from the audience um as we prepare for the next session so anyone wants to ask question sleeping so it's it's good looks we're good yeah you you covered everything thank you very much thanks [Music]
