how's it going oh that's like you said thumbs up so it is thanks welcome my name is adan hyman i'm a co-founder and ceo at chainsafe systems and thank you all so much for coming today today i'm going to talk about a lot of the stuff that we do at chainsafe i'm going to start out by introducing what we do then talking about the stuff that we're building and then we're going to discuss kind of this problem that we're looking to solve what the future vision for what it is we're going to be doing for
ever and then also a call to action how you can get involved in what we're doing if you are interested in it so who are we so at chaintiff we're a 70 person blockchain research and development firm so from the beginning what we've done is build things with people so working with individuals and organizations to build their dreams and make them a reality most of what we do 99 of what we do is open source or will be open sourced at one point and really it is our intention to create as much sustainable open source infrastructure for our ecosystem
and the way that this came about to be was you know we joined the space at a time where we were dreamers in terms of building actual applications and we realized nothing we want to build is really possible and so you know the way to get to a point where we can build the things we want to build which we'll talk about today in terms of what are those kind of things we're building to reach end users there's a core level of infrastructure that needs to be built and so these are a few of the open source kind of tools that people maybe know us for or use hello yeah thank you
and so you know you can see a lot of blockchain implementations so building out different ecosystems language implementation of one kind or another so load star which is a typescript implementation of not just the beacon chain but also the whole typescript ecosystem beneath too so things like in-browser light clients and a whole bunch of other really cool tooling so if you want for example to do anything in browser from serialization to yeah there's like so many different things key signing we have the tools to help you do that
we're also building out a go implementation of the polka dot host which currently syncs with kusama and polkadot so you can insert your polkadot runtime into our implementation of the polkadot host and have a multi you know there's already a multi-node kind of ecosystem for polka dot as a result of that we're also building out forest which is a rust implementation of filecoin and we don't have a name for it yet but uh the rust implementation of mina as well we're also the maintainers of web 3.js and another cool project which there is a few of my colleagues one that talked about earlier today and one
in two days talking about chain bridge which is a cross-chain interoperability protocol and so the things i'm going to be talking about today actually are these three which are more user facing and what i mean by that is yes some of them are for developers but they're presented in a way where it's maybe a little bit more familiar to regular people as well as regular developers so not just people in the open source space in the blockchain space but really anyone and so we'll get we'll talk about files we'll talk about store chain save storage we'll talk about our gaming sdk
as well and so to start out with files files as you can see and you can go to it right now at files.chainsafe.io it's a pretty standard cloud storage application that sits on top of ipfs and filecoin and the really cool thing about it is it allows you to log in through kind of this cool scheme with multi-factor authentication so you don't so it's fully end-to-end encrypted but you don't need an encryption key you can do all the things that you're used to doing with uh like a cloud storage application um but doing it on top of ipfs and filecoin so it really allows you to do so much of the regular stuff that you're used to
doing while logging in with you know anywhere from google auth all the way to metamask to be able to interact with this application and so sitting underneath that is chain safe storage and so chain safe storage is our pinning service but it also gives you an s3 compatible api so you can you know have your buckets or what have you and you'll see the ui is very similar and this is kind of our login process where you can sign in with metamask to interact with your your cids so your content identifier so this is
showing pinning so here you are pinning something and will also show that you can view it and you can also then get it through a bucket and then interact with this through an api so i'm not showing the api here but you could easily have you know an api that you then integrate into your more traditional application set so pretty straightforward in terms of how to use it and for developers coming from the s3 world pretty standard api as well in terms of how you would interact with it
and so this is kind of the last product i'll be talking about today and really what i'm trying to do is show kind of what we're going to be doing i'm talking about our products then i'm talking about the problem so i'm talking about the solution first and then the problem and i think you'll see why when i get there so yeah this is the first video for our 10 video tutorial which shows you how to use our library our unity library so basically what this is showing is that if you skip the login process it's just a white ball on unity webgl but refresh it and log in with metamask and what what you see is that immediately this turns yellow and so
what what does that mean you can extrapolate this to seeing that you can do anything with metamask logins in a unity game and the coolest part about this is that it's blockchain agnostic we don't have a marketplace or a token you have to subscribe to regular people can use this it's just you know prefabs and an api for unity devs and you can build any type of blockchain game you want again we don't have a token model with this you can build your own metaverse you don't have to buy into mine and you know this is a way for people to build their ecosystems without having to rely
on you know this kind of pre-existing blockchain or something like that so right now we're available and support a whole bunch of different blockchains you know everything from ethereum polygon to moonbeam and avalanche and a few others as well and so beyond the shilling of what we do i'm also here to talk about why it is we do what we do and so really in the blockchain space what we're seeing is that there's a huge divergence between people who want to get in the space and people who are in the space and it's really intimidating to get into this
ecosystem i know for us we build a lot of blockchains themselves and it's a very intimidating thing for a lot of people and what we try to do with our more user-facing products is ensure that anyone can really access this technology in as simple of a way as possible and so to give you an example we have people in our our gaming discord that don't even know what a token address is and are asking us but they know they're they want to create an economy around their video game they know that they want their users to have access to a decentralized infrastructure or a decentralized marketplace within their gaming ecosystem metaverse
whatever and so these are people who understand why it is we do what we do but don't really have the tools to achieve that and what is available out there are a bunch of tools that force you to work within an ecosystem within a given blockchain and so you don't have the ability to quite literally build your own world because you're trapped building on top of someone else's and so kind of if you look at this hard to read venn diagram where we uh you know find ourselves wanting to build things for end users is really in this sweet spot right where our protocol implementations our developer tools and our research come together
and really allowed allow us to see the true product market fit for things like gaming devs unity devs who are looking to build some really cool stuff but don't have the ability to do it people who want a nester compatible api when dealing with ipfs and filecoin but also want to be able to log in with metamask right like these are the things that we're finding an intersection for a very unique type of user that's slowly but surely becoming more and more of the predominant person in our space and not just the same kind of five people floating around the conference store um so i was hoping to have a little bit more
dialogue i don't have too much i'm going to be talking about today it's going to be pretty short but these are all positions we're hiring for we're growing a lot and all the time if you don't see a role that fits your needs check out chainsafe.io slash careers for any of these and you can kind of join us on this mission where you know we're here to truly bring a very technically objective perspective to a space that's rampant in very unfortunate kind of token economics that ensure that people aren't very technically objective so you have a lot
of people making claims about the validity of a technology when in reality they're really pumping their bags and so unfortunately we don't really have this technical objectivity that a lot of us pretend to have regardless of your background as an academic or not how many people are actually looking at the technology as a whole and not how to apply it to one given blockchain and if you're interested in really just pushing your own intellectual capabilities and exploring a whole bunch of different ecosystems i would say come come check us out and see what we're doing we're we're a lot
of fun and so one last thing i wanted to talk about we have an event we're having wednesday evening we would love for you to join come hang out we're just drinking having fun yeah for those of you who couldn't get into the other events we couldn't either so we decided to have an event so come hang out with all the people who weren't invited to the cool kids club so yeah that's basically it for my talk if you want to check me out on telegram couldn't find a good telegram kind of icon that we had so i use the phone but that's my telegram send us an email at infochainsafe.io like i said for jobs check out
chainsafe.io slash careers and yeah that's basically it for me today thank you so much everyone if you have any questions please feel sorry can you say that again please before you change the files like for example slate is relying on textile to build out the their application or did you guys build out the whole layer yeah like we have both the the kind of api side of things which is
chainsafe storage as well as files so files is our kind of you first use case on top of storage but yeah we have the entire uh the entire stack that's going to be the higher level the you the file side of things is open source now yeah and when we release storage it'll be open source as well for people to use so is there a reason you guys built it out yourselves i mean at the time we weren't necessarily seeing and still aren't seeing the maturity with a lot of the things that are out there not to say that people aren't doing great work but yeah we definitely aren't seeing kind of the polished things we want to see and really the ux of interacting in onboarding isn't where we want where
we want it to be and so yeah we kind of just tried to look at everything from the ground up and see how we can apply a lot of the product work we've been doing for years and a lot of the protocol work to see also how we can leverage just a whole bunch of cool things on the research side of things in terms of secondary retrieval markets so we worked a bunch on secondary retrieval markets at the beginning are now waiting for certain things to be a little bit more firm so yeah we're we're going to do a lot of experimentation on the storage side of things that we think is going to be really cool for for people beyond just like standard ipfs pinning or something like that thanks
of course thank you for your question cool thanks everyone you
