Trent McConaghy

Trent McConaghy is a Canadian engineer and founder who has spent his career at the intersection of AI and decentralized systems. After early machine learning research, including AI work for Canadian national defense, he built two electronic design automation startups: ADA, which was acquired in 2004, and Solido, whose variation-aware design software ended up used in most modern chip designs. He earned a PhD in engineering from KU Leuven focused on machine creativity. In 2013 he co-founded Ascribe, one of the earliest NFT-style platforms for digital art ownership, whose scaling problems led him to build the BigchainDB blockchain database in 2015 and then Ocean Protocol in 2017, a decentralized substrate for AI data and services whose later projects include the Predictoor prediction platform. More recently he has turned his attention to accelerating brain-computer interfaces as a path to human agency in an era of artificial superintelligence.
