Sreeram Kannan

Sreeram Kannan is the founder and CEO of Eigen Labs, the company behind EigenLayer, the Ethereum restaking protocol credited with popularizing the concept of shared cryptoeconomic security. Before founding EigenLayer in 2021 he was an associate professor at the University of Washington, where he directed the UW Blockchain Lab and researched information theory with applications to blockchains; the protocol's first team members came out of that lab. He holds a PhD in information theory and wireless networks from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and completed postdoctoral research at UC Berkeley. Eigen Labs has raised more than $170 million, including a $100 million round from a16z crypto, and has since expanded its vision with EigenCloud, a verifiable compute platform aimed at AI and agents.
