Jerry Brito
Jerry Brito is co-founder of Coin Center, the Washington, D.C. nonprofit research and advocacy organization focused on the public policy issues facing cryptocurrencies, and served as its executive director from its founding in 2014 through the end of 2024. One of the first lawyers to engage with Bitcoin policy in the U.S. capital after discovering it in 2011, he testified repeatedly before Congress and briefed officials at the White House, Treasury, SEC, and CFTC. Under his leadership Coin Center challenged the Treasury Department's sanctioning of Tornado Cash and sued the IRS over crypto tax reporting rules, and his book-length argument "The Case for Electronic Cash" became a touchstone for crypto civil liberties advocacy. He remains on Coin Center's board, and was succeeded as executive director by Peter Van Valkenburgh in January 2025.
