Ittai Abraham
Ittai Abraham is one of the leading researchers in distributed computing and Byzantine fault tolerant consensus, the scientific foundation underneath every modern blockchain. He earned his PhD from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, spent nearly two decades in industrial research at Microsoft Research Silicon Valley, then became a founding member of the VMware Research Group, where he helped start its blockchain project and later established its Israel branch, and he is currently a researcher at Intel Labs. He is a co-author of HotStuff, the BFT consensus protocol that influenced Facebook's Libra and a generation of blockchain designs, and he founded the technical blog Decentralized Thoughts. He also works with a16z crypto as a research partner, where he has spoken on the First Principles series about how decades of consensus research connect to Bitcoin, proof of stake, and modern protocols.
