Dmitry Khovratovich

Dmitry Khovratovich is a cryptographer whose designs sit underneath much of the crypto ecosystem: he co-created Argon2, the key derivation function that won the international Password Hashing Competition in 2015, and Equihash, the proof-of-work algorithm used by Zcash, and he is a co-author of Poseidon, the hash function built for zero-knowledge proof systems. He has worked as a researcher at the Ethereum Foundation, where he focuses on ZK-friendly hashing and, more recently, post-quantum signatures for Ethereum's lean consensus roadmap, and he is the founder and lead auditor of ABDK Consulting, whose math libraries and audits are used by protocols including Uniswap and Aave. Trained at Moscow State University with a PhD in cryptanalysis from the University of Luxembourg, he also published the first cryptanalytic attack on full-round AES-192 and AES-256 faster than brute force.
